● SE tracks to enhance the mood (3 songs)
“The Land of Hope & Glory” “Dorothy’s Narration” “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”
“The Land of Hope & Glory” will appear first when you play this work. At the beginning and ending of this work, familiar songs from live SE are recorded. If you think about it, there has never been a compilation that recorded a regular take, and in “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”, the fanfare is connected, and I am happy with the editing that sticks to the details. The mood that seems to be RAINBOW is heightened, but this is just a bonus. The true value of this work exploded after this … ….

A studio take that realized a dream (Ronnie era: 4 songs)
“Kill The King” “Man On The Silver Mountain” “Gates Of Babylon” “A Light In The Black”
“This section is the biggest impact of this work!” This is a creative take based on the official studio take. Surprised from “Kill The King” that first appeared. The original take of “Babylon’s Castle Gate” is mixed on the left channel, and the rough MIX version is mixed on the right channel. Both are familiar takes, but when they sound at the same time, they are incredibly fresh and powerful. Of course, it is not simply played back at the same time, and the tempo is also synchronized. It is a “new Kill The King” that I have never heard before.
“Man On The Silver Mountain” is even more amazing. It is a studio version where Cozy Powell hits the drum! In “Ginrei no Hasha”, Gary Driscoll was playing, but the drum take was removed cleanly. The drum track of “ON STAGE” that Cozy hits is synchronized there. I think that everyone has once delusioned that “If Cozy was hitting, the 1st album would have been more amazing …”, but you can actually listen to that “RAINBOW in the brain”!
“Gates Of Babylon” is interesting with a different playfulness. It is based on the take when appearing on the famous program “Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert”. At this time, the performance of the back team was the same as the studio album and only Ronnie’s vocals were replaced. The deluxe edition of “Babylon’s Castle Gate” contains “main broadcast version” and “outtakes”, and this work remixes the two. This is surprisingly interesting, and the two Ronnies are having a vocal battle on different lines. I knew the two takes would be slightly different, but I didn’t realize that layering them would create such an effect…just like Columbus’ egg.
So far, the dream has been the first to hit, but the last one is a purely musically amazing new version “A Light In The Black”. There are three remixes: “Rough mix version” on the left channel, “LA mix version” on the center, and “NY mix version” on the right channel. What is the point of doing such a thing? A powerful “A Light In The Black” rushing like a heavy tank is born.

A studio take that realized a dream (Graham era/Joe era: 3 songs)
“Eyes Of The World” “Lost In Hollywood” “Anybody There”
The Dream Realization Take is not in the Ronnie era. “Eyes Of The World” and “Lost In Hollywood” in the Graham era are also wonderful! The dream that these two takes made come true is a “rough mix with vocals”. The rough mix of “Down to Earth” is an instrumental, but I think there are many people who say, “It’s valuable, but I don’t feel like listening to it over and over again unless it has a song.” At least, the researchers who produced this work thought so. The vocal track from the official version of “Down to Earth” is synchronized with the instrumental rough mix.
What flows out like that is not just a “new version you’ve never heard before”. Don Airey did not like the final regular album and leaked, “The demo at hand is more amazing …”. The two songs that can be heard in this work are “more amazing down to earth” that Don said.
What’s more shocking is the degree of perfection. If you’ve ever done synchro work, you’ll know exactly what you’re doing, but if the same song is played differently, synchronizing is extremely difficult. If the tempo is different, the scale doesn’t match, and it’s just uncomfortable to overlap. However, in this work, it is natural as if it was a “rough MIX with songs” from the beginning. Probably, it was finely adjusted and matched, but … it is an impressive thing just by its accuracy. Moreover, the performance of “Eyes Of The World” has two kinds of rough MIX superimposed, and “Lost In Hollywood” is said to have re-edited the guitar solo briefly according to the scale of the rough MIX ………… Exactly It is a crystal of mania love.

It’s full of mind-blowing new studio tracks, but this work has a full live performance just like the original “FINYL VINYL”. It is chosen from official rare tracks and official grade soundboards, and the entire album summarizes the golden 70’s / 80’s.
It’s roughly based on the original take, but there was a shocking take here as well. There are minor corrections such as correcting the localization of “Spotlight Kid”, but the most intense is “Stargazer”. It is a live performance at the legendary “First Monsters of Rock”, but we are synchronizing three different takes. The legendary compilation LP version on the left channel, the 2016 official live CD version on the center, and the 6-disc compilation “A LIGHT IN THE BLACK” version on the right channel. This is also the same as “A Light In The Black”, the power and dynamism explode. It’s a super powerful take that makes you feel like you’re watching a historic festival from the front row.

All 16 songs, 79 minutes and 32 seconds of hidden treasures. The “take I wanted to listen to” that was ringing only in my head actually flows … I can’t taste this feeling anywhere else. Just thinking, “There are people who were thinking the same thing…” is deeply moving, and I am moved by the accuracy of the actual creation. It’s just the birth of a dream come true. Please enjoy this press CD that will leave this impression forever.

そんな本作の正体は、海外のRAINBOW研究家が制作したサウンドボード・コンピレーション。単に歴代の音源を集めたわけではありません。「幻メンツで聴いてみたかった」「こんなテイクがあったら良かったのに」等々、マニアが思わず妄想してしまう「実在していないテイク」を本当に実現。オフィシャル級クオリティで創り上げたドリーム・コンピレーションなのです。
はい。何を言っているのか、サッパリですね。この凄さはテイク毎にご紹介するしかない。本作は本家『FINYL VINYL』と同様に時代／種類を飛び交う構成になっていますが、ここでは「作風」ごとに分類してご紹介していきましょう。

●ムードを高めるSEトラック（３曲）
「The Land of Hope & Glory」「Dorothy’s Narration」「Somewhere Over The Rainbow」
本作を再生するとまず登場するのが「The Land of Hope & Glory」。本作の冒頭とエンディングには、ライヴのSEでお馴染みの曲が収録されています。思えば、これまで正規テイクを収録したコンピはなく、しかも「Somewhere Over The Rainbow」ではファンファーレとの間が繋いであるなど、細部にまで拘った編集も嬉しい。なんともRAINBOWらしいムードが高まりますが、これはあくまでオマケ。本作の真価はこの後に爆発するのでした……。

●夢を実現したスタジオ・テイク（ロニー時代：４曲）
「Kill The King」「Man On The Silver Mountain」「Gates Of Babylon」「A Light In The Black」
このセクションこそ、本作最大の衝撃！　オフィシャルのスタジオ・テイクを基にした創作テイクです。最初に登場する「Kill The King」からしてびっくり。左チャンネルに『バビロンの城門』のオリジナル・テイク、右チャンネルにラフMIXバージョンがミックスされているのです。どちらもお馴染みのテイクではありますが、これが同時に鳴るととんでもなく新鮮でド迫力。もちろん、単に同時再生させているわけではなく、テンポもキッチリとシンクロ。これまで聴いた事のない「新たなKill The King」となっているのです。
もっとスゴいのが「Man On The Silver Mountain」。なんと、コージー・パウエルがドラムを叩くスタジオ版なのです！　『銀嶺の覇者』ではゲイリー・ドリスコールが叩いていたわけですが、そのドラム・テイクを綺麗に除去。そこにコージーが叩く『ON STAGE』のドラム・トラックをシンクロさせているのです。誰もが一度は「コージーが叩いていたら1stアルバムはもっと凄かったのに……」と妄想したことがあると思いますが、その「脳内RAINBOW」が実際に聴けてしまうのです！
「Gates Of Babylon」はまたひと味違った遊び心が面白い。元になっているのは、有名番組“Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert”に出演した際のテイク。この時バック陣の演奏はスタジオ・アルバムと同じでロニーのヴォーカルだけ差し替えられていました。『バビロンの城門』のデラックス・エディションには「本放送版」と「アウトテイク」が収録されており、本作ではその２つをリミックスされているのです。これが意外なほど面白く、２人のロニーが違うラインでヴォーカル・バトルを繰り広げている。２つのテイクが微妙に違うのは知っていましたが、重ねることでこんな効果かが生まれるとは……まさにコロンブスの卵です。
ここまでは夢が先攻していましたが、最後は純粋に音楽的に凄い新バージョン「A Light In The Black」。左チャンネルに「Roughミックス版」、センターに「LAミックス版」、右チャンネルに「NYミックス版」という３種をリミックスしている。そんな事をして何の意味があるのか……と思ったら、大アリ。重戦車の如く突進するド迫力の「A Light In The Black」が爆誕しているのです。

●夢を実現したスタジオ・テイク（グラハム時代／ジョー時代：３曲）
「Eyes Of The World」「Lost In Hollywood」「Anybody There」
夢の具現テイクはロニー時代ではありません。グラハム時代の「Eyes Of The World」「Lost In Hollywood」も素晴らしい！　この２テイクが叶えてくれた夢は「ヴォーカル入りラフMIX」。『ダウン・トゥ・アース』のラフ・ミックスはインストで「貴重だけど、歌入りじゃないと何度も聴く気になれない……」という方も多いのではないでしょうか。少なくとも、本作を製作した研究家はそう考えたのでしょう。インストのラフミックスに正規版『ダウン・トゥ・アース』からヴォーカル・トラックをシンクロさせているのです。
そうして流れ出るのは、単なる「聴いたことのない新バージョン」ではない。ドン・エイリーは最終の正規アルバムが気に入らず「手元のデモの方がもっと凄いのに……」と漏らしていました。本作で聴ける２曲は、ドンが言っていた「もっと凄いダウン・トゥ・アース」なのです。
しかも衝撃なのは、その完成度。シンクロ作業をしたことがある方ならピンと来ると思いますが、同じ曲でも演奏が違えばシンクロは至難の業。テンポも違えば尺も合わず、重ねても気持ち悪いだけなのです。ところが、本作ではまるで最初から「歌入りのラフMIX」だったかのように自然。恐らく、細かく細かく調整して合わせたのでしょうが……その精度だけで感動モノなのです。しかもしかも、「Eyes Of The World」の演奏は２種のラフMIXが重ねられており、「Lost In Hollywood」はラフMIXの尺に合わせてギターソロを短く再編集しているという…………まさにマニア愛の結晶です。

ド肝を抜く新生スタジオ・トラックが山盛りですが、本作は本家『FINYL VINYL』と同じようにライヴも充実。公式レア・トラックやオフィシャル級サウンドボードからチョイスされており、アルバム全体で黄金の70年代/80年代を総括しています。
おおよそは元テイクに準じていますが、やはりここでも衝撃テイクがあった。「Spotlight Kid」の定位が正しく直されているなど細かい修正もありますが、一番強烈なのは「Stargazer」。伝説の“第一回モンスターズ・オブ・ロック”でライヴなのですが、３種の異なるテイクをシンクロさせているのです。左チャンネルに伝説的なコンピLP版、センターには2016年の公式ライヴCD版、右チャンネルには６枚組コンピ『A LIGHT IN THE BLACK』版のテイクでリミックス。これも「A Light In The Black」と同じように迫力とダイナミズムが爆上げ。まるで歴史的なフェスを最前列で観ているような超強力テイクになっています。
