This is the whole picture of “REGGATTA DE BLANC Tour”. In July, we will switch to the “ZENYATTA MONDATTA” era, but the Lyon performance of this work is just before that. It was the 7th performance of the “Europe # 3” leg.
Such a show is also famous for being broadcast on the program “FEEDBACK” by the famous French DJ Bernard Lenoir, and its air check has been a staple for a long time. This work is also the same “FEEDBACK” recording, but it is different from the conventional one. It is an item among the items that have been digitized directly from the newly excavated reel master.
In fact, the sound surpasses the conventional version (largely). To be precise, all the masters in the past had poor reception conditions and were not good enough due to dubbing deterioration, but this work does not have such drawbacks at all. There is no squishy feeling or distortion, and the glossy and tightly packed density is completely different. I missed the press because it suffers from French DJs in some places (this is just a feature of the broadcast itself), but the sound quality itself is an official-class live album.
The quasi-official sound is drawn by the enthusiasm of the young THE POLICE who burns to get the world. As mentioned above, the professional shots of “ROCKPALAST” appearing at this time are famous, so let’s organize them while comparing them.

そんな本作に記録されているのは「1980年４月８日リヨン公演」。そのステレオ・サウンドボード録音です。『REGGATTA DE BLANC』時代と言えば、“ROCKPALAST”や“DON KIRSHNER’S ROCK CONCERT”といったテレビ出演も有名。その辺の状況を把握するためにも、まずは当時のスケジュールから振り返ってみましょう。

《７月７日『ZENYATTA MONDATTA』製作開始》

これが“REGGATTA DE BLANC Tour”の全体像。７月には『ZENYATTA MONDATTA』時代へと切り替わっていくわけですが、本作のリヨン公演はその直前。「欧州#3」レッグの７公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウはフランスの有名DJバーナード・レノアの番組“FEEDBACK”で放送された事でも有名で、そのエアチェックが以前から定番となってきました。本作も同じ“FEEDBACK”録音ではあるのですが、従来とは異なる。新発掘されたリール・マスターからダイレクトにデジタル化された銘品中の銘品なのです。
実際、そのサウンドは従来盤を（大きく）凌駕している。正確に言いますと従来マスターはどれも受信状態が良くなかったり、ダビング劣化で今イチだったりしたわけですが、本作にはそんな欠点がまったくない。スカスカ感も歪みもなく、艶やかでみっちりと詰まった密度もまるで別物。ところどころフランス語DJが被る（こればっかりは放送自体の特徴なので仕方ありません）のでプレス化は逃しましたが、サウンドクオリティ自体はオフィシャル級の極上ライヴアルバムなのです。
そんな準オフィシャル・サウンドで描かれるのは、世界を手に入れようと燃え上がる若きTHE POLICEの大熱演。前述のように、この時期は“ROCKPALAST”出演のプロショットが有名ですので、比較しながら整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。約１時間の放送枠もあって“ROCKPALAST”よりは短いのですが、その代わり（？）貴重なシングルＢ面曲「Landlord」が美味しい。他にも当時だからこその「Deathwish」や「Born in the 50’s」も披露されますし、「Message in a Bottle」「Walking on the Moon」も大ヒット真っ最中だからこその勢いが素晴らしいのです。
ブレイクスルーの薄皮を食い破り、出す物すべてがヒットする黄金時代に突入したTHE POLICE。そんな加速期だからこその熱演が過去最高のサウンドで脳みそに流し込まれるサウンドボードの大傑作です。従来盤をご存知の方ならサウンドに驚かれるでしょうし、初めて体験される方なら熱演ぶりに圧倒されること間違いなしの灼熱盤。どなた様も、どうぞ存分にお楽しみください。
