Even the glorious “DARK SIDE OF THE MOON Tour” is a 1972 US tour with surprisingly few good records. The representative sound source of such a hot spot is upgraded. Introducing a press 2CD that permanently preserves the highest peak updated sound by detailed mastering of “GRAF ZEPPELIN”.
“Performance in Chicago on April 28, 1972” is imbued in this work. It is the highest peak audience recording. “DARK SIDE OF THE MOON Tour” is an extremely important tour in rock history. This is the full view of the “DARK SIDE OF THE MOON Tour”. As expected, all titles can not be included, so each leg is limited to representative works. With the exception of Japan, the number of works is particularly large around “UK”, “Europe #2” and “North America #3”. Even if you don’t think about it, some of you may have an image of “1972 = Europe” and “1973 = America”. Under such circumstances, the Chicago performance of this work will be a gap “North America in 1972”. It was a concert that was the 12th performance of “North America # 1”.

While “GRAF ZEPPELIN” was refined, other masters were also utilized to update the longest and highest peaks. Let’s take a look at the three sources used here.

-A: Recorder 1
Although it is a classic recording from long ago, it is not as good as “Recorder 2” today. Also used in this work for compensation.
● B: Recorder 2 (DAT clone)
“The best master of this show.” It is the main sound source of this work, like the previous edition “THE UNPROCESSED CHICAGO 1972 (Sigma 85)” with a vivid long recording.
●C: Recorder 2 (doinker master)
A master with the same recording as “B” but with a different route, only “madness” is known. There are few twists, and some parts are missing in “B”.

The last edition “THE UNPROCESSED CHICAGO 1972” and the main of this work are also the best master “B”. “C” is also in good condition, so I tried a temporary assembly as a base, but the consistency with the parts other than “Crazy” and the vividness of the overall sound, etc., are comprehensively suitable for the main sound source. It was B.
This work upgrades such a best master in both quantity and quality. First of all, regarding the “quantity”, “Speak To Me”, which was just one minute short at the beginning of the previous edition, was recorded for three minutes before the sound of the heartbeat that announced the start of the performance, and “Us And Them”, which was missing two places. expanded to full form. Although there are several cuts between songs, the performance part is the first complete recording in history.
And the “quality” that runs through the entire story has also been greatly improved. I think that the previous edition was also surprised by the closeness of the performance sound, but this work has further improved density and stability. All possibilities are pursued by the paranoid “GRAF ZEPPELIN” mastering, but is the stereo feeling the biggest difference in this work? If you have the previous version, I would like you to listen to it, but you may notice that DISC 1 was heavily biased to the left and DISC 2 was heavily biased to the right. In this work, it is stable at the center. This is the gift of phase correction that does not allow even 1/1000th of a second deviation, but this not only improves the sense of left and right position, but also improves the core strength and directness.
“It shines when polished” type of famous recording. It is the highest peak update board. Although it is not a live album aiming for the No. 1 throne of “DARK SIDE OF THE MOON Tour”, it can be a ruler of a hot spot called “North America in 1972”. これが“DARK SIDE OF THE MOON Tour”の全景。さすがに全タイトルは載せきれないので各レッグとも代表作に留めました。日本は例外として、特に作品数が多いのは「英国」「欧州#2」「北米#3」辺り。意識はしなくても何となく「1972年=ヨーロッパ」「1973年=アメリカ」なイメージをお持ちの方もいらっしゃるのではないでしょうか。そんな中で本作のシカゴ公演はすき間となる「1972年の北米」。「北米#1」の12公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウのベスト・マスターと言えば、当店の前回盤『THE UNPROCESSED CHICAGO 1972』。本作もまた、歴史的ベスト・マスターを踏襲しつつ、さらにブラッシュアップ。「GRAF ZEPPELIN」が磨き込みつつ、他マスターも活用して最長・最高峰を更新したのです。では、ここで使用された3ソースを見てみましょう。

●A:Recorder 1
古くからの定番録音ではあるものの、現在では「Recorder 2」には及ばない。本作でも補填用に使用。
●B:Recorder 2(DATクローン)
このショウのベスト・マスター。生々しい長尺録音で、前回盤『THE UNPROCESSED CHICAGO 1972(Sigma 85)』と同様、本作のメイン音源。
●C:Recorder 2(doinkerマスター)
「B」と同じ録音ながら経路が異なるマスターで、『狂気』のみが知られています。ヨレが少なく、ところどころ「B」には欠けているパートも残されている。

……と、このようになっています。前回盤『THE UNPROCESSED CHICAGO 1972』も本作のメインもベスト・マスターの「B」。「C」も良い状態なので土台として仮組みも試みたのですが、『狂気』以外のパートとの整合性や全体の音の生々しさなど、総合的にメイン音源に向いているのはやはり「B」でした。
本作は、そんなベスト・マスターを量と質の両面でアップグレード。まず「量」ですが、前回盤では冒頭が欠けて1分ギリギリだった「Speak To Me」も開演を告げる鼓動音の前からたっぷり3分収録され、2ヶ所欠けのあった「Us And Them」も完全形に拡張。曲間のカットは数カ所残ってはいますが、演奏パートは史上初の完全収録が実現しているのです。
そして、全編を貫く「質」もグッと向上。前回盤も間近感たっぷりな演奏音に驚かれたと思いますが、本作は密度も安定感もさらにアップしている。偏執的なほどの「GRAF ZEPPELIN」マスタリングによってあらゆる可能性が追求されているわけですが、本作で一番大きな違いを感じられるのはステレオ感でしょうか。前回盤をお持ちの方はちょっと聴いてみていただきたいのですが、DISC 1が左に、DISC 2が右に大きく偏っていた事に気づかれるのではないでしょうか。本作は、それがセンターにビシッと安定している。1/1000秒の狂いも許さない位相補正の賜なのですが、これは左右の位置感覚だけに留まらず、芯の力強さやダイレクト感までアップさせているのです。
まさに「磨けば光る」タイプの名録音。その最高峰更新盤です。“DARK SIDE OF THE MOON Tour”のNo.1王座を狙うライヴアルバムではありませんが、「1972年の北米」という穴場の支配者にはなり得る。史上初となる演奏パートの完全収録が実現し、サウンドもグッと安定感を増した芯の力強さに酔いしれる。マスタリング系アップグレードの鏡とも言うべきプレス2CD。どうぞ、存分にお楽しみください。
