In the first half of the 2010s, there was a troublesome tendency to “distribute the first-appearing sound source only on vinyl records” mainly in Europe. It would be another story now that analog LP has made a big revival, but at that time it was used as a palliative means to prevent it from being easily distributed to digital and the Internet. Regarding Floyd, there is a feeling that this method has made a big leap, and by the way, many enthusiasts remember that the outtake sound sources of “WISH YOU WERE HERE” and “ANIMALS” also appeared for the first time on LP.
The sound board recording of the 1975 San Diego performance was released in such a situation and can only be heard on LP. In 2013, the album was titled “CALIFORNIA SOUNDBOARD” and recorded the “THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON” set with excellent stereo sound quality, which had a big impact on enthusiasts all over the world. In the first place, the sound board from the 1975 American tour had a tremendous impact, but I think the side who put it out was confident, “A Top Quality Tape Recorded Directly From The Mixing Desk” on the back jacket. It was so credited.
However, when I actually listened to it, it was even more shocking that it was a wonderful stereo sound board recording that was different from the mixing desk, that is, the PA out sound board. Not to mention the balance of the performance, the chorus corps is beautifully separated in stereo. And above all, the cheers were firmly contained, and it was clear that it was a sound source recorded using multitrack for a normal live album. Indeed, because it was such a shocking excavation, it was intentionally released only on LP …

Due to such a shock, when the LP was released as it was in 2013, the version recorded on the CD-R was released as an additional gift of SIGMA’s “SAN DIEGO 1975”, and after adjusting the pitch that was fast in the LP. Since it was recorded, it caused a great response, saying, “This is a great sound source!” At the same time, there was a natural voice saying, “This is a single press CD release!”, But since there was a precedent for outtakes mentioned earlier, I was “waiting” for this sound source as well. It depends.
However, how about, even after nearly 10 years have passed since the release of LP, the sound source in another format does not appear at all. In addition, “CALIFORNIA SOUNDBOARD Rev. A”, which the enthusiast who boiled the business carefully traced the LP with the latest technology, is the source of this release. The difference from the 2013 gift CD-R, which simply traces the LP, is clear, and there is no scratch noise that makes it hard to believe that it is based on the LP. Still, the upper feeling of the sound quality itself is wonderful. It is a leaked sound source before the final mastering is done, so it is not one step closer to the official perfection, but rather it is 75 years with the best stereo sound board recording while leaving the roughness and freshness. The shock of listening to the tour hasn’t faded.
At the time of this release, the full-length version of the live itself has been realized by adopting the new song part of the first half of the live where the sound board has not leaked from the same monaural audience recording as “SAN DIEGO 1975”. However, it is not a diversion from “SAN DIEGO 1975” released more than 10 years ago, but this is also the first generation copy released by Mr. Neonknight, one of the Floyd rare sound source world in 2013. Achieve an upgrade by adopting.

Even so, the impact of the 75-year tour that can be heard with stereo sound board recording is too great. The floating feeling of the conventional Floyd-like sound that was left until the previous year is wiped out, and the powerful part of “THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON” played with a hard and solid sound. The soulful singing voices of the female chorus and the Black Belize are so vivid that they fly from the left and right, and Roger’s sense of stability is outstanding, but the presence of the base that runs freely in all directions. If it was just the stereo feeling of the performance, I could experience it with the excellent sound source of this tour, but it is not comparable to the stereo sound board where the expressive power of such further details stands out.
And it was the last “Echoes” that was recorded only in the first 100 sheets that caused controversy in “CALIFORNIA SOUNDBOARD”. I thought it was a performance on the same day, but when I opened the lid, it was obvious that it was not a San Diego take. Knowing that, I was reminded that it was a convincing treatment that I dared to record it only on the first disc. This take is presumed to be a Denver performance or a Tucson performance from the elimination method, but when the song part started, there was a problem that Gilmour’s microphone was off, highlighting that this was also a happening not found in San Diego. I am. In addition, thanks to the stereo sound board recording, there was another effect that I fell in love with Rick’s singing voice, which I had to sing alone for a short time.

However, the last two songs of “THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON” were overlooked in “CALIFORNIA SOUNDBOARD” or the same sound source “Rev. A”. In fact, those two soundboards have been released for years. Such an old CD is “DESK TAPE –DARK SIDE II”. The main recording was the sound board of Vienna & Berlin from the 1977 Animals Tour, and those parts were diverted to the 1977 tour item after that, but “Eclipse” that was included there And “Brain Damage” was actually found to be 75 San Diego in recent years. In other words, if you divert this, the longest version of the San Diego sound board will be completed. This was a sound source that was overlooked.
In the first place, the leaked sound source was recorded from the end of “Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 6-9)”, but even so, the longest recording of the vivid stereo sound board is enough to hear. Still, enthusiasts are convinced that they can enjoy the first half of the live while recording the audience. This is exactly what “Revised Edition” is suitable for. And enjoy the shocking 75-year tour sound board to your heart’s content with the finally realized limited press CD release!

2010年代の前半にはヨーロッパを中心として「初登場音源をアナログ盤だけで流通させる」という厄介な風潮が存在していました。アナログLPが大復活を遂げてしまった現在ならまた別の話でしょうが、当時はデジタルやインターネットへ安易に流通させない為の姑息な手段として利用されていたもの。ことフロイドに関してはこの手法が暗躍した感があり、そういえば「WISH YOU WERE HERE」と「ANIMALS」それぞれのアウトテイク音源に関してもLPで初お目見えしたことを覚えているマニアが多いのではないかと。
そうした状況でリリースされ、今なおLPでしか聞くことが出来ないのが1975年サンディエゴ公演のサウンドボード録音。2013年にその名も「CALIFORNIA SOUNDBOARD」というタイトルで「THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON」セットをメインに素晴らしいステレオ音質で収録してみせたことで世界中のマニアに大きな衝撃を与えたアルバム。そもそも75年アメリカ・ツアーからのサウンドボードというだけでも衝撃は凄まじいものがありましたが、出した側としても自信があったのでしょう、裏ジャケに「A Top Quality Tape Recorded Directly From The Mixing Desk」とクレジットされていたほど。
ところが実際に聞いてみればミキシング・デスク、つまりPAアウトのサウンドボードとは一線を画す素晴らしいステレオ・サウンドボード録音であったことがさらに大きな衝撃を与えたのです。演奏のバランスはもちろん、コーラス隊の奇麗にステレオ・セパレート。そして何より歓声もしっかり入っており、普通のライブアルバム用にマルチトラックを用いて録音された音源であることは明白だった。なるほど、これほど衝撃の発掘であったからこそ、敢えてLPでしかリリースされなかったという…

そのあまりの衝撃ゆえ、リリースされた2013年当時にLPをそのままCD-Rに収録したバージョンをSIGMAの「SAN DIEGO 1975」の追加付属ギフトとしてリリースしたところ、LPで速かったピッチをアジャストした上で収録していたこともあり「これは凄い音源だ！」と大反響を巻き起こしてしまったのでした。それと同時に「これを単体プレスCDリリースを！」という声が当然のごとく寄せられていたのですが、先に触れたアウトテイクの前例がありましたので、こちらの音源に関しても「様子見」していた次第です。
ところがどうでしょう、LPのリリースから10年近い歳月が経過しても別のフォーマットでの音源がまったく登場しない。それに業を煮やしたマニアが最新技術でLPを丁寧にトレースしてくれた「CALIFORNIA SOUNDBOARD Rev. A」が今回のリリースの元。単にLPをトレースした2013年盤ギフトCD-Rとの差は明らかで、LPをベースにしているとは思えないほどスクラッチノイズが皆無。それでいて音質そのもののアッパー感は素晴らしいものがある。まだ最終的なマスタリングが施される前の段階の流出音源ですので、オフィシャル的完成度には一歩及ばないのですが、むしろラフさや生々しさを残していながら最高のステレオ・サウンドボード録音で75年ツアーを聞けるという衝撃は今も色褪せていません。
今回のリリースに際してはサウンドボードが流出していないライブ前半の新曲パートを「SAN DIEGO 1975」と同じモノラル・オーディエンス録音から採用することでライブそのものの全長版収録を実現させています。とはいっても今から10年以上前にリリースされた「SAN DIEGO 1975」からの流用ではなく、こちらも2013年になってフロイド・レア音源界の一人者Neonknight氏が公開したファースト・ジェネレーション・コピーを採用することでアップグレードを実現。

それにしてもステレオ・サウンドボード録音で聞ける75年ツアーの衝撃はあまりに大きい。前年まで残されていた従来のフロイド的なサウンドの浮遊感が一掃され、ハードかつソリッドなサウンドで演奏される「THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON」パートの迫力たるや。女声コーラス、ブラックベリーズの二人のソウルフルな歌声が左右から飛び交う様など実に鮮烈ですし、ロジャーの安定感抜群でありながらも縦横無尽に駆け巡るベースの存在感。演奏のステレオ感だけなら本ツアー優良音源でも体験できましたが、こうしたさらなるディティールの表現力が際立つステレオ・サウンドボードにはかなわない。
そして「CALIFORNIA SOUNDBOARD」で物議をかもしたのは初回100枚のみに収録されていたラストの「Echoes」。てっきり同日の演奏かと思いきや、いざ蓋を開けてみればサンディエゴのテイクでなかったことが一目瞭然。それを知っていながら敢えて初回ディスクにだけ収録したという確信犯的な扱いであったことを思い知らされます。消去法からデンバー公演もしくはツーソン公演だと推測されているこのテイクですが、歌パートが始まったところギルモアのマイクがオフというトラブルが起きており、これがまたサンディエゴにないハプニングであったことを際立たせています。さらにステレオ・サウンドボード録音のおかげで少しの間だけ一人で歌う羽目になったリックの歌声に聞き惚れてしまうという別の作用もありました。

ところが「CALIFORNIA SOUNDBOARD」あるいは同音源「Rev. A」でも見落とされていたのが「THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON」終盤二曲。実のところ、それら二曲のサウンドボードの方が何年も前からリリースされていたのです。そんな古のCDは「DESK TAPE – DARKSIDE II」。メインで収録されていたのは77年アニマルズ・ツアーからウィーン＆ベルリンのサウンドボードであり、それらのパートに関してはその後77年ツアー・アイテムに流用されたのですが、そこに入っていた「Eclipse」と「Brain Damage」が実は75サンディエゴであったことが近年になって判明。つまりこれを流用すればサンディエゴ・サウンドボードの最長版が出来上がるという訳。これぞ見過ごされていた音源だったのです。
そもそも流出音源は「Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 6-9)」終盤からの収録ではあるのですが、それでも鮮烈なステレオ・サウンドボードの最長収録は聞き応え十分。それでいてオーディエンス録音ながらライブ前半も楽しめるという内容にはマニアも納得かと。これぞ正に「Revised Edition」が相応しいというもの。そして遂に実現した限定プレスCDリリースにて衝撃の75年ツアー・サウンドボードを心ゆくまでお楽しみください！

This time, “CALIFORNIA SOUNDBOARD: Revised Edition” will realize the first longest recording & limited press CD release of 75 San Diego sound board of maniac madness, but since the sound board part of it is the main feature, Angkor ” There is the fact that “Echoes” is not the only San Diego take.
If the sound board is a thick line of Denver or Tucson take that was done in front of San Diego, it is natural for enthusiasts to be concerned about genuine San Diego “Echoes”. Unfortunately, the soundboard for this song hasn’t been unearthed, but on the other hand, there are audience recordings. 今回「CALIFORNIA SOUNDBOARD: Revised Edition」にてマニア狂喜の75サンディエゴ・サウンドボード初の最長収録＆限定プレスCDリリースが実現する訳ですが、それのサウンドボード・パートをメイン・フィーチャーとしたからには、アンコール「Echoes」だけサンディエゴのテイクではないという事実がある。
サウンドボードがサンディエゴの前に行われたデンバーかツーソンのテイクである線が濃厚であるとなれば、マニアとしては純正サンディエゴの「Echoes」が気になるのは当然のこと。残念ながらこの曲のサウンドボードは発掘されていない訳ですが、その反面オーディエンス録音は存在している。むしろサンディエゴ公演自体は2009年にSIGMAレーベルがその名も「SAN DIEGO 1975」にてリリース済み。
ところが今回「CALIFORNIA SOUNDBOARD: Revised Edition」のライブ前半で採用したのが2013年になってNeonknight氏が公開してくれたファースト・ジェネレーションという新たなバージョン。そこで初回納品分にはこのバージョンのすべてを収録したCD-Rが付属するのです。

ファースト・ジェネレーションというインフォからも解るように、マスターカセットからダイレクトにコピーされたカセットということから「SAN DIEGO 1975」と比べるとアッパー感は歴然。まず音質そのものがはっきりクリアーであり、なおかつ鮮度がまたはっきり上に感じられる。このバージョンを前にすると、2009年当時に出回っていた音源を使用した「SAN DIEGO 1975」が暗くメリハリのない音質に聞こえてしまう。
もちろん今回も「Eclipse」は未収録なのですが、それ以上に惜しむらくは「Echoes」のイントロの最中に上書きのような演奏と関係のない音が混入してしまったこと。しかし、それを差し引いても今回のバージョンの方が音質は明らかに上。それに本曲の歌い出しではサウンドボードのテイクで聞かれたようなギルモアのトラブルもなく、スムーズにスタートしている。それどころか75年の「Echoes」の中では意外なほど慎重に演奏してみせたようにすら聞こえるから面白いものです。
これを聞けば「Echoes」のサウンドボード・テイクが「なるほど演奏が違う」と実感していただけるはずであり、なおかつ音質面のアップグレードはもとより資料的な価値も高い。それに75年の時点でアメリカではもはやスタンダードと化していた「THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON」パートに対する凄まじい盛り上がりもサウンドボード以上に伝わってくる。これは是非とも初回納品分にて揃えていただきたいアップグレード・バージョン！
