【1971 CAMPBELTOWN SCOTLAND】

Sound effects and string instruments etc. are added at this point and it is built quite a bit, but due to some nature that it is a duet music with Linda, it may be difficult to release now. “Sally G” is a rehearsal sound source by the piano. It sounds like a light sound match, and it has become a greatly different arrangement from the atmosphere of the original music.

【1974 ONE HAND CLAPPING SESSION】
In the studio session that also serves as the rehearsal of the world tour ahead of the following year, the video work is famous, but this work contains the outtakes. The main is “Soily”, which includes edited versions of Takes 7, 8, 9, and 8 and 9. The out – take of “Red Rose Speedway” which was played also in the tour of 1973, still the studio version has not been announced yet. 【1976 TREVOR JONES TAPES】

That is the evidence here another version that will be released for the first time is also included here. “Love Song of the Mind” is recorded in 2 versions, the first is take of single vocal. Both versions are nearly complete, except for horn not added. “She’s My Baby” is recorded two take. Take 1 has more vocals mixed than release versions, which is also evident in comparison with the following take 2. 【1979 BACK TO THE EGG SESSION】
One of the main features of this work is “Daytime Nightime Suffering”. 【1983 THE HONORARY CONSUL SESSION】

There are many other works that were made into films, and “Honorary CONSUL” announced in 1973 is one of them. When it was filmized in 1983, Paul was supposed to be in charge of the film music. Recorded in this work is a more outtake of its minor film music, it is a very source of sound, but also from the fact that as part of Paul’s career, he also worked on such movie music, It is a sound source you want to collect.

【1994 RADD SESSIONS】
Recently, penalties for drunk driving are being severely punished in Japan. Given that there are dead people in an unfortunate accident, I think this is a very good trend. Famous artists also began to do enlightenment activities to eradicate drunk driving, the moment was excited at this time. Therefore, RADD was founded in 1986. RADD is an acronym for Recording Artists Against Drunk Drivers, and not only artists but also actors and athletes who agree with the gist are participating now and it is about changing the name to Recording Artists, Actors and Athletes Against Drunk Driving It is an organization boasting a large force. “Drive My Car” recorded in this work was recorded for charity because it matches the purpose of the activity along with the birth name of the song. In 1994 Paul sang the first phrase and then Phil Collins, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Little Richard and others are singing and connecting one after the other and it is luxurious co-star. 人気のポールのセッション・シリーズ。VOL.1が「マッカートニー」と「ラム」のスタジオ・セッション集、VOL.2が「マッカートニー2」のスタジオ・セッション集だったのに対し、本作はそのVOL.3になる。今回はアルバムの、という括りではなく、1971年から1995年までのキャリアにおいて、近年発掘された音源、今までどこにも未収録だった音源などを幅広く、そして細かく丁寧に収録している。貴重な初登場音源はもちろんだが、おそらく他レーベルでは収録しないであろう、マニア受けする渋い音源まで、ポール・コレクターなら外すことの出来ないものばかりである。では詳細に内容を見てみよう。

【1971 CAMPBELTOWN SCOTLAND】
ポールがアコギでリンダと一緒に歌っている音源である。草生い茂る庭に座って演奏している映像が有名であろう。しかしここでは映像に含まれていない部分も含め、かなり長く収録しているのが特徴である。「I Am Your Singer」はスタジオ・バージョンでもリンダとのデュエットであったが、ここでも一緒に歌っている。終始バックには子供たちの遊んでいる声が聞こえ、パパの奏でる音楽を一緒に楽しんでいる様子が伝わってくる。「Hey Diddle」もポールとリンダのデュエットで、ポールはベース音を口でボウゥ！ボウゥ！と入れているのが面白い。

【1974 NASHVILLE SESSION】
1974年にウイングスはナッシュヴィルでレコーディングを行なっている。その時の演奏は従来も数多く流出していたが、ここに新たに初登場音源である。「Junior’s Farm」はラフ・ミックスかつ従来よりも長いバージョンである。ポールのヴォーカルにリリース・バージョンにあるようなエフェクトがかけられておらず、ナチュラルな声で聴くことが出来る。どちらが良いかは意見の別れるところだが、個人的にはやはりこのテイクのように自然なヴォーカルが良いのではと思う。「Hey Diddle」もラフ・ミックスである。かなり長い期間に渡ってこの曲にトライしているが、いまだリリースになっていない不思議な曲である。この時点で効果音や弦楽器などが加えられ、かなり作り込まれているのだが、リンダとのデュエット曲であるとある性質上、今となってはリリースが困難なのかもしれない。「Sally G」はピアノによるリハーサル音源である。軽い音合わせのような感じで、原曲の雰囲気とは大きく異なるアレンジとなっている。

【1974 ONE HAND CLAPPING SESSION】
翌年に控えたワールド・ツアーのリハを兼ねたスタジオ・セッションで、映像作品が有名であるが、本作ではそのアウトテイクを収録している。メインは「Soily」で、テイク７、８、９、そして８と９を編集したバージョンを収録している。1973年のツアーでも演奏されていた『Red Rose Speedway』のアウトテイクで、いまだスタジオ・バージョンは未発表となっている。演奏は1973年のそれに比べて非常にタイトでスピード感あふれるものに変貌しており、ブルース色が強い初期のウイングスよりも、ロック色の強いこの時の布陣による演奏が曲にはまっている。途中、コントロール・ルームにおける曲のディスカッションが収録されている。意外なのはリンダがかなり積極的に発言している点である。

【1976 TREVOR JONES TAPES】
2010年頃に突如大量に流出したトレバージョーンズ所有の未発表テープ。Mクローデル・レーベルでもそれらをリリースしてきたが、その全貌は依然として不明である。それが証拠にここにまた、初登場となる別バージョンが収録されている。「心のラヴソング」は2バージョン収録されており、最初がシングル・ヴォーカルのテイク。間奏のホーンはまだダビングされておらず、ポールが口でトゥルトゥルトゥ～と間奏のメロディを追っている。両バージョンともホーンが加えられていない以外は、ほぼ完成バージョンに近い。 「She’s My Baby」は2テイク収録されている。テイク1はリリース・バージョンに比べヴォーカルが大きくミックスされており、それは続くテイク2と比べても明らかである。さんざん歌い込んだのであろう、ここで聴くことのできる2テイクはほぼ同じ歌いまわしであり、重ねて聴いてもほとんど違和感がないのではと思われるくらい似通っている。「Must Do Something About It」はリリース・バージョンではジョー・イングリッシュがヴォーカルを採っていた曲である。これは「Come And Get It」のビートルズ・バージョンのように、ジョーが参考になるようガイド・ヴォーカルのためにポールがレコーディングしたものだろう。高らかに歌うジョーのバージョンと比べ、落ち着いて歌っているのが印象的である。

【1977 RECORDING SESSION】
アルバム『ロンドン・タウン』に先立ち、「夢の旅人」と「ガールズ・スクール」のシングルのレコーディングが行なわれた、その際の音源である。ご存知のように「夢の旅人」はスコットランドの伝統的な楽器バグパイプを大々的に採り入れ、当時「She Loves You」が持っていた英国での売り上げ記録を更新した、現在でもポールがステージで演奏している代表曲のひとつである。最初はラフ・ミックスを収録している。これは従来も聴くことができたものであるが、音質的にかなりアップグレードしたものが本作に収録されている。そしてUnedited Full Versionは、その通り未編集のフル・バージョンである。エンディングがフェード・アウトではなく、きちんと終わってはいるのだが、きちんとと言うべきか、どのように終わるか決めておらず、最初からフェード・アウトするからいっかー、といったいい加減な終わり方となっている。「ガールズ・スクール」はマイナーなB面曲でアルバムにも未収録という不遇な曲である。ここではラフ・ミックスを2バージョン収録している。

【1979 BACK TO THE EGG SESSION】
本作の目玉のひとつが、この「Daytime Nightime Suffering」である。ポール自身がウイングスの曲で最も気に入っているひとつと挙げているのみならず、ビーチボーイズの「神のみぞ知る」と並んで全ての楽曲の中でもフェイヴァリットのひとつに選んでいる名曲である。アルバムには未収録であるB面曲といった点では「ガールズ・スクール」と同じなのだが、曲の出来が大きく異なり、こちらは実にウイングスの魅力が凝縮された名曲であると言える。本作に収録のバージョンは初登場のラフ・ミックスで、かつロング・バージョンとなっている。リンダのコーラス、複数の曲を繋ぎ合わせたかのような曲構成、しかも子供たちの声が不意に入ってしまった部分もそのまま活かすなど、これぞウイングスといった曲である。

【1983 THE HONORARY CONSUL SESSION】
英国の小説家でグレアム・グリーンという作家がいる。記者経験からミステリーやスリラー小説を得意とし、代表作は映画にもなった「第三の男」がある。その他にも映画化された作品は多数あり、1973年発表の「HONORARY CONSUL」もその内のひとつである。1983年に映画化された折、ポールがその映画音楽を担当することになったのである。日本では未公開の映画なので、知名度はほぼなく、また「FAMILY WAY」に通じる映画音楽なので、熱心にポール・ファンにもあまり注目されていない。本作に収録は、そのマイナーな映画音楽のさらにアウトテイクということで、極渋の音源ではあるのだが、ポールのキャリアの一部として、このような映画音楽も手掛けていたという事実からも、コレクトしておきたい音源である。

【1994 RADD SESSIONS】
昨今、日本では飲酒運転に対する罰則が厳罰化しつつある。不幸な事故で死者が出ていることを鑑みると、これは非常に良い傾向であると思う。しかし日本よりも早く、欧米ではやはり飲酒運転が社会問題化していた。有名アーティストらも飲酒運転撲滅の啓蒙活動を行なうようになる、その機運がこの時期盛り上がっていた。そこで1986年に設立されたのがRADDである。RADDとはRecording Artists Against Drunk Driversの頭文字をとったもので、現在ではアーティストのみならず主旨に賛同した俳優やスポーツ選手らも参加し、Recording Artists, Actors and Athletes Against Drunk Drivingと名称を変えるくらい大きな勢力を誇る団体となっている。本作に収録の「Drive My Car」は曲の知名度と共に活動の趣旨に合致しているということでチャリティのためレコーディングされたものである。1994年のポールが最初のフレーズを歌い、その後をフィルコリンズやデヴィッド・クロスビー、グラハム・ナッシュ、リトル・リチャードなどが次々に歌い繋いでいくという豪華共演となっている。なんと驚きのジュリアン・レノンが登場したり、懐かしいロス・ロボスがギターを弾き、ドラムはリンゴが叩いている。色物ではアルヤンコビックなども出演している。本作にはバージョン違いで3種のバージョンの他、プロモーションのために収録されたメッセージが2バージョン収録されている。ポールが「RADDを代表してお伝えします。パーティのシーズンですが、飲酒したら運転はやめようね」というお行儀の良いメッセージを述べている。

【SESSION with YOKO ONO】
イタリア、ドイツに続いて日本が降伏したことにより第二次世界大戦は終結した。その終結の間際に投下されたのが、広島と長崎の原子爆弾であった。人類が核兵器を手にして初めて実戦で使用されたのが広島と長崎であるだけでなく、その後一度も使用された例がないという、非人道的な兵器である。1995年は戦後50年の節目ということで、様々な式典が行なわれた。戦後50年ということは、原爆投下からも50年ということである。広島の空は常に青空という歌が発表されたのである。なんとポールとヨーコがビートルズ解散後初のコラボである。ロックではなく、ヨーコの前衛音楽にポールがひっそりと参加しているという趣の曲である。リンダはオルガンを、ジェームズはギターを、そしてポールの娘たちはパーカッションを担当している。ポールはヴォーカルやコーラスで参加することなく、ベースのみを担当している。どういう形にせよ、ポールとヨーコが共演した唯一の事例として貴重なものである。

【THE SIMPSONS】
シンプソンズとは、アメリカの有名なテレビ・アニメ・シリーズである。1989年に放送開始以来、アメリカの長寿アニメとして、日本でいうサザエさんのような人気を誇っている。そこになんとポールがアニメ・キャラとして登場したのである。これは「LISA THE VEGETARIAN」というエピソードの中のことで、タイトル通り、ポールが本人役で声優として登場。「Maybe I’m Amazedを聴くと、その後ろでソラマメ・スープのレシピが聞こえるよ」という、ベジタリアン啓蒙のための出演である。テイク自体はスタジオ・バージョンだが、DJがキュッキュッとやるような効果が施されている。

【STELLA MAY DAY SESSION】
「Stella May Day」とは、1995年に作られた、その名の通りポールが娘のために書いた曲である。ステラがファッション・デザイナーであることは知られているが、ファッションを専門に学ぶ学校の卒業記念のファッションショーのために父が送った曲とのことである。ハードなギターがギンギンと鳴らされるインスト・ナンバーで、ポールらしからぬものである。途中、おそらくポールであろう「ステ～～～ラ～～～」という絶叫が挿入される。後にラジオ・プログラムOobu Joobuでもこの曲が紹介されている。本作に収録は、この「Stella May Day」のデモ音源である。単純な曲ながら、徐々に楽器が加えられ、曲が完成する過程をうかがい知ることが出来る。

【THE BALLAD OF THE SKELETONS】
アレン・ギンズバーグというアメリカの詩人がいる。日本でいうところの谷川俊太郎のような人であろうか。日本でも詩集が数多く出版されているので、ご存知の方も多いだろう。ポールも一時期アレン・ギンズバーグと共に共演をしたり、自身のステージに上げたりと交流を深めていた。これはアレン・ギンズバーグが死の2年前、1995年にポールの自宅で収録された詩の朗読である。それもただの詩の朗読ではなく、ポールがバックで演奏を加えているのである。きちんとしたバンドの演奏である。曲は「Cracking Up」のリフを発展させたような軽快なもので、段落に合わせて転調するなど、その詩に合わせた楽曲だというのがわかる。

【TROPIC ISLAND HUM SESSIONS】
ポールのアニメ好きは有名である。熊のルパートは言うまでもなく、マイケル・ジャクソンの自宅ネヴァーランドで、二人でアニメのビデオを楽しんだというエピソードも知られている。そしてアニメを見るだけでなく、自身の会社MPLで実際にアニメを制作したことがある。それが「Wirral The Squirrel」である。商業的にヒットしたかどうかは不明だが、ポールのアニメ好きが高じて、このようなプロジェクトにまで手を出していたという事実は特記すべきであろう。もちろん主題歌はポールが担当している。それが「Tropic Island Hum」である。本作では、この曲の様々なバージョンを収録している。

【STUDIO RARITIES VOL.3】
ポールの長きキャリアにおいては、スタジオ音源というのは膨大な時間になる。アルバムごとのセッション音源では補いきれない、単発のプロジェクト、他者との共演などがある。また初登場音源が流出したり、様々な形で新たな音源が発掘されている。このシリーズは、アルバム・セッションとは別に、その範疇に収まらないポールのスタジオ音源を収録するレアリティーズとしての性格を持っている。本作はその第三弾である。美しいピクチャー・ディスク仕様の永久保存がっちりプレス盤。日本語帯付。

1974 ONE HAND CLAPPING SESSION
