OVER THE RAINBOW formed by Richie’s son Jurgen Blackmore and former RAINBOW members. The original recording that conveys the performance in Japan is a new excavation.
“Namba Hatch performance on April 27, 2009” is imbued in this work. It is a superb audience recording that completely recorded the whole story. Speaking of OVER THE RAINBOW, a phantom project that ended in foam without leaving any original work even though it came to Japan. It’s also a band that you don’t have many opportunities to get in touch with, so let’s first take a bird’s eye view of their activities.

This is the activity history of OVER THE RAINBOW. However, there are few materials about them, and Joe Lynn Turner’s solo performance is also concurrent at the same time. Depending on the material, there are many vague points, such as the same show being listed under the name of OVER THE RAINBOW or Joe’s solo name (he also came to Japan as VOICE OF RAINBOW in September 2010), so the above is just a rough estimate. Please see it as a sense of scale. Aside from that, I think you can understand that they weren’t limited to Japan, and that they were mainly active in Europe. Under such circumstances, the performance in Japan was held shortly after the start of the activity, and the Osaka performance of this work was the concert on the first day.
This work, which is a vacuum-packed version of such a show, is a superb product. After all, it is Mr. “West Japan’s strongest taper” who is familiar with our shop who made this work a thing. In 2009, even the “strongest” collection is early, so it feels like an audience, but it also stops the tone. The direct feeling of the on-core, the crisp and vivid outline, the separate feeling that is beautifully divided up to the sound of each sound of each instrument … If you check each item, all of them are sound board grade. Even though the sound has a sense of space, it’s a small club-sized “Namba Hatch”. It’s not the distance, it’s a closed room where the energy is sealed.
The masterpieces of RAINBOW’s glory are depicted with such superb clear sound. From “Ginrei no Hasha” to “Solitary Stranger”, the luxury of concentrating all albums was unprecedented. Let’s organize the set here so that you can experience the gorgeous feeling.

… and it looks like this. As expected, it is Joe’s song that is the axis, but other than that, heaps of Greatest Hits. There is also a repertoire that Joe did not sing in the RAINBOW era. I suddenly started with “Tarot Woman”, which I didn’t do at the head office, and “Kill The King” was an instrumental for RAINBOW in the Joe era, but here I have a solid vocal. “Eyes Of The World”, which began to sing from the symphony co-starring in 2006, is also shown in the band version.
Also, although Greg Smith is there, it seems Joe sings “Ariel” and “Wolf To The Moon” without any hesitation. There may be people who are shy and slanderous, but the show will be established even if there are no songs from the Doogie era, so the words “I will sing any song if the fans are happy” is still a policy. In fact, it is also true that the “rainbow juke box” backed by the spirit of service is the most fun.
The performance that spells out such a set is also worth listening to. The ensemble, with all the members of the past and sung by the flexible Joe, is unmistakably rainbow-colored. Actually (because it was just after the start of the activity), there are scenes where Jürgen’s guitar makes me want to say, “Are you okay?” I hate the style. The arrangement of “Death Alley Driver” that incorporates “over the rainbow” is also nice (whichever) is the arrangement that Richie is likely to do.
A true “rainbow juke box”. It is a live album in which the parties revived the best selection of songs. In a sense, “Extra edition RAINBOW” may be more satisfying to listen to than the 21st century RAINBOW. Please enjoy this work of the finest original recording.

そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「2009年４月27日なんばHatch公演」。その一部始終を完全収録した極上オーディエンス録音です。OVER THE RAINBOWと言えば、来日は果たしたものの、オリジナル作品は何一つ残さずに泡沫に終わった幻プロジェクト。触れる機会もあまりないバンドでもありますので、まずは活動全景も俯瞰してみましょう。

これがOVER THE RAINBOWの活動略歴。ただし、彼らの資料は少なく、同じ時期にはジョー・リン・ターナーのソロ公演も同時並行。資料によっては同じショウがOVER THE RAINBOW名義やジョーのソロ名義で記載されているなど、あやふやな点も多く（2010年９月にはVOICE OF RAINBOWとして来日もしていますし）、上記はあくまでざっくりとしたスケール感としてご覧ください。それはさておき、彼らは日本向けの限定プロジェクトだったわけではなく、欧州を主戦場として活動していたのがご理解頂けると思います。そんな中で来日公演は活動開始から間もない初期に行われ、本作の大阪公演はその初日にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウを真空パックした本作は、極上の銘品。何しろ、本作をモノにしたのは当店お馴染みの“西日本最強テーパー”氏なのです。2009年は”最強”氏コレクションでも初期なのでオーディエンスらしさ感じられるのですが、それも音色止まり。オンな芯のダイレクト感、キリッと鮮やかな輪郭、楽器１つひとつの１音１音に至るまで綺麗に分かれたセパレート感……各項目をチェックしていくとどれもサウンドボード級なのです。音色にしても空間感覚はあるものの、そこは狭いクラブ規模の“なんばHatch”。遠さではなく、エネルギーが密封された密室感になっているのです。
そんな極上クリア・サウンドで画かれるのは、RAINBOW栄光の名曲群。『銀嶺の覇者』から『孤高のストレンジャー』まで、全アルバムを濃縮した豪華さは、かつてないものでもありました。そのゴージャス感を実感していただくためにも、ここでセットを整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。さすがに軸となっているのはジョーの持ち歌ですが、それ以外も山盛りのグレイテスト・ヒッツ。中にはジョーがRAINBOW時代に歌ってなかったレパートリーもある。いきなり本家ではやらなかった「Tarot Woman」でスタートしますし、「Kill The King」もジョー時代RAINBOWはインストでしたが、ここではしっかりヴォーカル入り。2006年のシンフォニー共演から歌うようになった「Eyes Of The World」もバンド・バージョンで披露しています。
また、グレッグ・スミスがいるとは言え「Ariel」「Wolf To The Moon」でも何の気負いもなく歌うのもジョーらしい。尻軽とそしる向きもあるかも知れませんが、ドゥギー時代の曲がなくてもショウは成立するわけで「ファンが喜ぶならどんな曲でも歌うよ」の言葉はやはりポリシーなのでしょう。実際、サービス精神に裏打ちされた「虹色ジューク・ボックス」は最高に楽しいのも事実なのです。
そんなセットを綴るパフォーマンスも聴きどころ。歴代メンバーが勢揃いし、柔軟なジョーが歌うアンサンブルは紛れもなく虹色。実のところ（活動開始直後だったせいか）ユルゲンのギターは「大丈夫？」と言いたくなるシーンもあるのですが、曲間にも父親を意識したフレーズを爪弾くなどイメージを崩さないスタイルは憎めない。「虹の彼方に」を盛り込んだ「Death Alley Driver」のアレンジなど、リッチーがやりそうなアレンジもニクい（どっちやねん）です。
まさに「虹色のジューク・ボックス」。極めつけのベスト選曲を当事者達が甦らせたライヴアルバムです。ある意味で21世紀RAINBOWよりも聴き応えがあるかも知れない「番外編RAINBOW」。どうぞ、極上オリジナル録音の本作で存分にお楽しみください。
