In 1976, Olivia Newton-John made her first solo visit to Japan at the age of 28. A reprint of the legendary original recording that allows you to experience the scene that was also an incident in the history of Japanese Western music. It will be restocked with the 2nd press.

A total of 12 performances. There were two Budokan performances more than 10 days apart, but DISC 1 of this work is on the first day. Her first visit to Japan is also famous for the fact that TV broadcasting was left, but it was the same show. On the other hand, DISC 2’s broadcast sound board is also composed of the same Nippon Budokan (8 songs) and Osaka (6 songs). Osaka was also the same show as her official live album “LOVE PERFORMANCE”. Let’s take a look at each disc individually.
[DISC 1: Nippon Budokan Full Live Album] The first thing to appear is an audience recording that allows you to fully experience the historic night. This is an original recording by the master craftsman “Miracle Man”, which was released to the world for the first time in this work. The sound is exactly the world of beautiful sounds. In our shop, separate recordings such as “BRING YOUR LOVE AROUND” and “FAIRY AT BUDOKANFAIRY AT BUDOKAN” have been standard shows for a long time, but we have wiped out such existing groups. Although it is not a zero-distance feeling that can be mistaken for a sound board just because it is recorded at “South Stand 2nd Floor D Row 21”, it is amazing because even that is not a drawback but a beauty. A fresh core stretches straight through the crystal-clear air Annonaka, and the vocals and backing performances are clear to the subtleties. Speaking of “Miracleman”’s 70’s Budokan, RAINBOW’s famous board “AN EVENING IN DECEMBER” also comes to mind, but in fact this work is two weeks before that. It is also the Olivia version of that miracle recording.And then the faint sound of the hall. This creates an exquisite pouring feeling. For example, in symphonic rock, etc., hall sounds sometimes produce a church organ-like majesty, and this work is like that. Olivia’s singing voice is pretty and like the whispers of fairies, but it fills the octagonal space with moisture and gentleness. It becomes an indescribable feeling of embrace, and you can taste the “charm of Olivia only on site” that cannot be seen on soundboards and official live albums.
The experience of a full show is just as wonderful as the sound. The show at that time was about an hour long and fit on one CD, but it was still longer than 17 minutes longer than “LOVE PERFORMANCE”. Let’s get things sorted out here.

What’s more, the narration at the beginning and between songs is wonderful. “Many potted plants are lined up on the pure white stage floor, and the greenery shines in the proof.” However, the narration is like the introduction to enka, but it is more elegant and dandy. The vivid contrast with Olivia’s lovely singing voice brings the Showa breeze.
And above all, the real thrill of being able to enjoy the precious Japanese performances on the soundboard is tremendous. Nippon Budokan has a TV broadcast, and the Osaka performance has an official work “LOVE PERFORMANCE”, but both have different selections. Finally, let’s organize both sound sources together.

そんな本作に刻まれているのは３つの極上記録。「1976年12月１日：日本武道館」公演のフル・オーディエンス録音をDISC 1に、「日本武道館（12月１日）＋大阪（12月３日／４日）」のラジオ放送サウンドボード録音をDISC 2に配した２枚組です。まずは、12万人を動員したという記念碑的スケジュールから紐解き、それぞれのポジションを把握してみましょう。

以上、全12公演。武道館公演は10日以上離れて２回あったわけですが、本作のDISC 1は初日の方。彼女の初来日はTV放送が残された事でも有名ですが、それと同じショウでした。一方、DISC 2の放送サウンドボードも同じ日本武道館（８曲）と大阪（６曲）で構成。大阪は公式ライヴアルバム『LOVE PERFORMANCE』と同じショウでもありました。それでは、各ディスクを個別にご紹介していきましょう。
【DISC 1：日本武道館のフル・ライヴアルバム】
まず登場するのが、歴史的な夜をフル体験できるオーディエンス録音。本作で全世界初公開となった名匠“ミラクルマン”によるオリジナル録音です。そのサウンドは、まさに美音の世界。当店では古くから別録音『BRING YOUR LOVE AROUND』『FAIRY AT BUDOKANFAIRY AT BUDOKAN』等が定番となってきたショウでもあるのですが、そうした既発群を一掃してしまった。「南スタンド２階 D列21番」で録音されているだけにサウンドボードと間違えるようなゼロ距離感とはいかないものの、それさえ欠点ではなく美点になっているから凄い。クリスタル・クリアに透き通る空気庵野中を瑞々しい芯が真っ直ぐに伸び、ヴォーカルもバックの演奏も機微までクッキリとしている。“ミラクルマン”の70年代武道館と言えば、RAINBOWの大名盤『AN EVENING IN DECEMBER』も浮かびますが、実のところ本作はその２週間前。あの奇跡録音のオリビア版でもあるのです。
そして、ほんのりとしたホール鳴り。これが絶妙な降り注ぎ感を生み出している。例えば、シンフォニック・ロック等ではホール鳴りがチャーチオルガン的な荘厳さを演出する事がありますが、本作もそんな感じ。オリビアの歌声は可憐で妖精の囁きのようでもあるのですが、それが八角形の空間をしっとり優しく満たしていく。それが得も言われぬ抱擁感となり、サウンドボードや公式ライヴアルバムでは窺い知れない「現場だけのオリビアの魅力」を味わわせてくれるのです。
そのサウンドと同じくらい素晴らしいのがフルショウの体験感。当時のショウは１時間あまりとCD１枚に収まる程度ですが、それでも『LOVE PERFORMANCE』より17分以上長い。ここでその内容も整理しておきましょう。

【DISC 2：ラジオ放送２種によるサウンドボード・アルバム】
そんなフル・ライヴアルバムに続くのは、秘宝のサウンドボード・アルバム。当時のラジオ放送エアチェックでして、前述のように前半が日本武道館の８曲、後半が大阪公演の６曲を収録しています。どちらもヴィンテージ感が滲み出す滋味のサウンドボードでして、特に前半の武道館放送は絶品。これも“ミラクルマン”氏秘蔵のAM放送エアチェックでして、オリジナル・マスターだけに鮮度は抜群。公式風ではないのですが、それがセピアな味わいとなっており、何とも言えない郷愁を誘う。
しかも、冒頭や曲間に差し込まれるナレーションが素晴らしい。「真っ白いステージの床に沢山の鉢植えが並べられまして、その緑が証明に映えています」「ラメ入りの真っ白な衣装のオリビア」「ブルーのライトに浮かび上がります」とコンサートの光景をリスナーに伝えるのですが、その語りは演歌の前口上のようでありつつ、もっと上品でダンディ。オリビアの可憐な歌声との対比も鮮やかに、昭和の風を運んでくれるのです。
そして何より、貴重な日本公演をサウンドボードで味わえる醍醐味が絶大。日本武道館はTV放送、大阪公演は公式作『LOVE PERFORMANCE』がああるわけですが、どちらもセレクトが違う。最後に両音源をまとめて整理しておきましょう。

The main press 2CD is a combination of the “Miracle Man” recording where you can enjoy the legendary first visit to Japan with the finest sound, and a radio album that exudes a sense of the times. It is truly a hidden treasure album in the history of Japanese Western music. As I mentioned in the commentary, the Nippon Budokan performance is also famous for realizing TV broadcasting. Therefore, as a bonus for the reprinted 2nd press, we also prepared the highest peak master version of the TV broadcast pro shot.
That’s why this work contains the same “December 1, 1976: Nippon Budokan” performance as the main press 2CD. It is the multi-camera pro shot. Along with the official live album “LOVE PERFORMANCE”, it is a TV broadcast that has symbolized Olivia’s first visit to Japan, and this work is the finest air check master. In fact, the quality of this work is the highest ever. Since it is an air check in the 70’s, it is not possible to advertise as “Official grade!”, But the freshness of the master is astonishing. Until now, discoloration and rough images were commonplace, but this work has excellent color development as it was at the time, and the image beauty with almost no noise and a stable screen is excellent. Not to mention the shining Olivia’s smile, the swaying blonde and the subtitle telop with the bilingual lyrics are also very beautiful (unfortunately, only “Love Is Alive” has a different master and the image quality drops).
The beauty of such visuals is exactly what you see with your eyes. However, the song selection is different, so let’s organize it while comparing.

… and it looks like this. “The Air That I Breathe” and “Something Better to Do” were not selected (?), but “Let It Shine” was selected. The volume of all 12 songs and about 43 minutes is comparable to “LOVE PERFORMANCE”.
This work ends with a whispering “love shitemasu”. Olivia in 1976, who was lively with a youthful and bursting singing voice in “Jolene”, listened to the oily luster as a singer in “I Honestly Love You”, and showed a cute real face in the MC. It is a historical masterpiece video that teaches its charm more vividly than the official name board.
