Entering the 21st century, Oasis has gained the status of the most popular Western music artist in Japan. He visited Japan for three consecutive years from 2000 to 2002, and since 2002, the pace of visiting Japan twice a year has been established.
Speaking of coming to Japan this year, a large-scale Japan tour was held from September to October, with limited press CDs “YOYOGI 2002 1ST NIGHT: DAT MASTER”, “YOYOGI 2002 FINAL NIGHT”, and even CD-R. High-quality sound source “TOKYO 2002 2ND NIGHT” has been released.
However, the first visit to Japan in 2002 was May, when we had a one-night gig at an event held in Tokyo. In addition, it was also the timing when the new album “HEATHEN CHEMISTRY” at that time had not been released yet.
This event was filmed because a cable TV broadcasting station was involved, and all the stages of the oasis were broadcast. It was an event live with other performers, and their playing time was less than 45 minutes, so they were honored to broadcast all songs.

More than half of the repertoire shown here was from “HEATHEN CHEMISTRY”, which is about to be released, and since it was broadcast after the release of the album, it became an aggressive set list that pushed new songs even more. I think it is.
However, some of the songs on the album have had a 21st century happening that the rough mix leaked via the net before the release, and here again for the Japanese audience who showed a favorable reaction to the new song. The scene where Noel made a suspicious comment (“Why do you know?”) Reflected the circumstances at that time.
Even so, because the new song was the main song, the performance content played the role of a trailer for this year, even though it was a stage of less than 45 minutes. In addition, since the tour has not started in earnest, it is refreshing now that Liam’s singing voice sounds a little higher than the later live version, such as “Hung In A Bad Place”.

Also, unlike the vast venues of arenas and outdoor festivals, this event was held in a venue with a slightly larger size, such as a live house, so the performance was clearly relaxed compared to the main tour. You can see how they are.
In the new arrangement “Some Might Say” which was also the representative repertoire of this tour, Noel smiles at him when Liam is about to make a mistake in the lyrics. ..
The facial expression of the smiley scene is clearly transmitted, which is the wonderful image quality of this video. Its quality is extremely high, and it is as clear as it can be viewed with the current eyes, almost 20 years after its broadcast. Still, the atmosphere of the live is completely different from Yoyogi in September (the same station was on air at this time) that was recorded in the main part of the tour, so the first delivery DVD-R “THE VIDEO” of the popular “YOYOGI 2002 FINAL NIGHT” It would be interesting to compare it with.
And in the bonus video, only the oasis scene is extracted from the document DVD on the day of the event that was distributed exclusively. The scene of taking a commemorative photo with Jay-Z, a rapper who appeared in the same event, was also smiley at that time, and the arrival at the venue of the oasis itself and the atmosphere of the dressing room were very relaxing, so it is like that. It covers valuable images that convince you that a peaceful performance was shown.
Enjoy the first gig in 2002, which has been forgotten compared to Yoyogi in September, with perfect image quality and sound quality (naturally clearer than what you see on YouTube!) To your heart’s content!

21世紀を迎えるとオアシスは日本でもっともポピュラーな洋楽アーティストの地位を獲得していました。2000年から2002年までは三年連続で日本を訪れてくれましたし、また2002年以降は一年に二度来日するというペースが確立されたほど。
この年の来日と言えば9月から10月にかけて大規模なジャパン・ツアーが行われ、限定プレスCDで「YOYOGI 2002 1ST NIGHT: DAT MASTER」に「YOYOGI 2002 FINAL NIGHT」、そしてCD-Rでも高音質音源「TOKYO 2002 2ND NIGHT」がリリースされてまいりました。
しかし2002年最初の来日と言えば東京で行われたイベントで一夜限りのギグを行った5月だったのです。おまけに当時のニューアルバム「HEATHEN CHEMISTRY」がまだリリースされていないというタイミングでもあったという。
このイベントはケーブルテレビの放送局も絡んでいたことから撮影され、オアシスのステージのすべてが放送。他にも出演者がいたイベント・ライブであり、なおかつ彼らの演奏時間も45分足らずというものであったことから全曲放送という栄誉を授かったのでした。

ここで披露されたレパートリーは半分以上が発売を目前に控えた「HEATHEN CHEMISTRY」収録曲であり、放送はアルバムのリリース後であったことから、なおさら新曲を押した攻めのセットリストになったのだと思われます。
もっとも同アルバム収録曲のいくつかはネットを介してリリース前にラフミックスがリークしてしまうという21世紀らしいハプニングが起きており、ここでも新曲に対して好反応を見せた日本のオーディエンスに対してノエルが訝し気なコメントを発している（「何で知ってるんだ？」）場面も当時の事情を反映したものだったのです。
それにしても新曲をメインにしてくれたことで、45分足らずのステージながら演奏内容が見事にこの年の予告編の役割を果たしてくれている。おまけにツアーが本格始動する前ですので、例えば「Hung In A Bad Place」などは後のライブバージョンと比べてリアムの歌声が少し高く響いてくるのが今となっては新鮮。

それにアリーナや野外フェスの広大な会場と違い、本イベントは少しサイズの大きいライブハウス…といった趣の会場で行なわれましたので、ツアー本編と比べても明らかにリラックスした雰囲気で演奏を披露している様子が伝わってきます。
このツアーを代表するレパートリーでもあった新しいアレンジの「Some Might Say」でリアムが歌詞を間違えそうになるとノエルが彼に向かって笑顔を見せるというのもツアー本番とは違った余裕のなせる業かと。
その微笑ましい場面の表情がはっきり伝わってくるのも、一重にこの映像の画質の素晴らしさ。そのクオリティは非常にレベルが高く、放送からほぼ20年が経過した現在の目で鑑賞してもまったく遜色ないほど鮮明なもの。それでいてツアー本編での収録だった9月の代々木（この時も同じ局がオンエアしましたね）とライブの雰囲気がまるで違うので、好評「YOYOGI 2002 FINAL NIGHT」の初回納品分DVD-R「THE VIDEO」と見比べるのも面白いでしょう。
そしてボーナス映像では限定配布されたイベント当日のドキュメントDVDからオアシスの場面だけを抜粋。同じイベントに出演していたラッパー、Jay-Zと楽屋で記念撮影する場面なども当時らしくて微笑ましく、またオアシス自体の会場到着や楽屋の雰囲気も非常にリラックスしたものであり、それ故にあのような和やかな演奏が披露されたのだと納得させられる貴重映像まで網羅。
9月の代々木と比べて忘れ去られてしまった感のある2002年最初の来日ギグを完璧な画質と音質（当然YouTube上で見られるものよりクリアー！）で心ゆくまでお楽しみください！
