Of course, the show is also a great sound not to lose the sound. As I have talked about so many times, the North American Tour combines the largest set list of the past with a matured performer. I was worried about tiredness only on the last tour of the tour, but I can not feel that it was controlled very well. これが現在までに公表されているSAUCERFUL OF SECRETSの全公演。現在の彼らはイギリスに戻って凱旋ツアー「英国#3」を開始しており、このゴールデンウィーク中まで駆け抜ける予定。本作のフィラデルフィア公演はその直前。「北米」レッグのラスト１つ手前にあたる27公演目でした。
そんなショウを記録した本作は、名機「Schoeps MK41v」の性能を生かし切ったような超絶レベルのオーディエンス録音。何よりも素晴らしいのはオンな芯とウルトラ・クリアな鳴り。左右ド真ん中のバルコニー席から録音されているようなのですが、とにかく距離感がまったく感じられない。空間を伝わってきたのが信じられないほどの密着感で、ディテールも超繊細。さらにクリアさも尋常じゃない。ヘッドフォンで耳を澄ませてもホール鳴りが感じられず、それでいてクリスタル・グラスに注がれた赤ワインのような艶と輝きを備えているのです。
さらに付け加えるなら盛大でありながら端正な美を感じさせる熱狂も素晴らしい。昨年の欧州ツアーから拡大されたセットやレベル・アップした演奏が評判を呼んだのか、会場は盛大に盛り上がっている。しかし、それがTPOを絶妙にわきまえており、しかも間近な声がほぼ皆無。曲間や見どころ、聴きどころになるとふわっと歓声が立ち上り、スーッと引いていく。そのタイミングもバランスもやけに絶妙。恐らくこれはバルコニー録音の効果かも知れません。演奏や歌声の下から炊き上げるような立体感で、会場を見渡すような広大さでありつつ邪魔しない。しかも、拍手の１打１打まで分かりそうなクリアさのおかげで遠近感が生まれ、スケール感に直結。そのことごとくが理想的に捉えられている。実際「Fearless」のように歓声のＳＥが使われる曲もあるわけですが、そのＳＥとリアルな喝采が区別できないほどに融合し、見事に音楽世界を盛り立てているのです。
この素晴らしさは、頂点的。これまで北米ツアーの指標として何度も『LOS ANGELES 2019 2ND NIGHT（Amity 538）』を登場させてきましたが、本作のクリアさ、美しさでは遙かに上を行く。また、同種のクリア系録音としては『COLUMBUS 2019（Amity 545）』が最高峰だったわけですが、本作はそれよりもさらにキリッと引き締まり、金属光沢レベルの輝きも上回っている。『LOS ANGELES 2019 2ND NIGHT』の重厚でリッチな鳴りも今なお捨てがたいものがありますが、強引に１本選ぶのであれば、本作こそが最高峰。事実としては録音者自身が名乗りを上げるオーディエンス録音なのですが、このまま公式作品としてリリースすることもできそうな名録音なのです。
もちろん、ショウもサウンドに負けない素晴らしさ。これまで何度も語ってきたように、北米ツアーは過去最大のセットリストと円熟に達した演奏を併せ持っている。ツアー最終盤だけに疲れも心配されましたが、よほどしっかりとコントロールされていたのか、それも感じられない。勢いや気迫で押し切る演奏ではないような気もするものの、むしろそれは横綱相撲のような威風堂々とした風格さえ漂わせているのです。

とにかく超絶なクリア・サウンド。ロック界でも希にみる名録音の大量生産ツアーだったわけですが、本作はその中でもズバ抜けた銘品。さすがにロジャー・ウォーターズとの共演が楽しめる事件盤『BEACON THEATRE 2019 1ST NIGHT（Amity 547）』は外せないものの、通常ライヴアルバムなら「まずはコレ！」と言える。これから北米ツアーの総括が始まるわけですが、恐らく本作を超えるサウンドはちょっと無理なのではないか……そうとしか思えない大傑作。どうぞ、じっくりとお楽しみください。
