SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS, the initial Floyd reprint project that embarked on the second US tour for the first time in three years. A superb live album that conveys the latest stage is now available.
“Performance in Port Chester on September 26, 2022” is imbued in this work. It is the transcendental audience recording. The biggest point of this work is the ridiculously wonderful sound, but first of all, the position. The 2022 tour report will be the fourth in this work, so let’s check the positional relationship of each.

This is the tour schedule for 2022. In the 2018/2019 tour, which was the start of the new project, we reported almost all the performances, but after that, the official live album was born. Currently, we carefully select and deliver only the best recordings that represent each leg. And this work is the representative work of the North American tour that started with about two months off.
It’s a little premature to declare it a “masterpiece” since the North American tour has just started, but the sound of this work is so good that I want to say so. Normally, I would say “core …”, “ringing …”, “details …”, but this work is not in that dimension and I can not think of anything other than “official work”. Everything was arranged perfectly and beautifully. That is why it is not defeated even if it is played alternately with the genuine official “LIVE AT THE ROUNDHOUSE”. No longer even “sound board or audience” or “formalized informal” is out of the question. Regardless of the method, it is a shocking quality that has reached the highest peak as a “recording of live performances”.
“There’s a reason why it sounded like that.” This work was created by the master taper “spitback”, who is said to be a modern master. Although there are not many works, recently the latest recordings centered on progressive rock have become a hot topic, and Steve Hackett’s “RIDGEFIELD 2022 (Amity 669)” has been announced at our shop. This work is a top … no, it is a super-name recording that will be a masterpiece even in such a masterpiece collection.
The 2022 version of “SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS” is drawn with such a super sound. It’s been a long time since the report, and it’s slightly different from the above European tour, so let’s organize it again.

… and it looks like this. Basically, it is a 2022 set list that follows the European leg, but cuts one song “Interstellar Overdrive”. Although it is somewhat disappointing in terms of the number of songs and volume, you can enjoy a tighter show.
“Even so… it sounds amazing.” It’s an incredible recording. There is nothing that makes you feel the rapid progress of technology as vividly as audience recording, but this work must be the “cutting-edge sound in 2022”. The other day, I introduced Roger Waters’ abnormal sound board “VANCOUVER 2022 (Amity 700)”, but this work can be said to be the Nick Mason version. Even in the rock world, the FLOYD taper is known for its sound quality level as another dimension, but even if you are aware of it, you can not help but be surprised by the monster sound “Early Floyd in the 21st century”. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.

そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「2022年９月26日ポート・チェスター公演」。その超絶級オーディエンス録音です。本作最大のポイントはとんでもなく素晴らしいサウンドにあるのですが、まずは何よりポジション。2022年のツアー・レポートは本作で４作目になりますので、それぞれの位置関係も併せて確認してみましょう。

これが2022年のツアー・スケジュール。新プロジェクトの始動期だった2018年／2019年ツアーではほとんど全公演をレポートしましたが、その後になって公式ライヴアルバムも誕生。現在では各レッグを代表する極上録音だけを厳選してお届けしています。そして、本作こそ約２ヶ月のオフを挟んで始まった北米ツアーの代表作というわけです。
まだ北米ツアーは始まって間もないのに「代表作」を宣言するのは些か時期尚早なのですが、そう断じたくなるほど本作は音が良い。普段なら「芯が……」「鳴りが……」「ディテールが……」と言葉にしていくところなのですが、本作はそういう次元ではなく「まるでオフィシャル作品」以外の言葉が浮かばない。すべてが完璧に美しく整っており、ヘッドフォンで耳を澄まして全力でアラを探しても……見当たらない。それこそ、正真正銘のオフィシャル『LIVE AT THE ROUNDHOUSE』と交互に再生しても負けていない。もはや「サウンドボードかオーディエンスか」「公式化非公式か」さえ問題外。手法によらず「生演奏の記録」としての最高峰を極めたような衝撃のクオリティなのです。
それだけのサウンドになったのも理由がある。本作を手掛けたのは現代の名手と謳われる達人テーパー「spitback」。余り作品数は多くないのですが、最近ではプログレ系を中心とした最新録音で話題になっており、当店でもスティーヴ・ハケットの『RIDGEFIELD 2022（Amity 669）』が公表を博しました。本作は、そんな名手コレクションでも上位の……いや、最高傑作となるであろう超・名録音なのです。
そんなスーパー・サウンドで描かれるのは、2022年版の“SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS”。久々のレポートですし、上記の欧州ツアーとも微妙に異なっているので、改めて整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。基本的には欧州レッグを踏襲した2022年仕様のセットリストですが、１曲「Interstellar Overdrive」をカット。曲数ボリューム的にはやや残念ではあるものの、よりタイトになったショウを楽しめます。
それにしても……凄いサウンド。とんでもない録音です。オーディエンス録音ほど技術の日進月歩をビビッドに感じるものはありませんが、本作こそまさしく「2022年最先端のサウンド」に違いありません。先日はロジャー・ウォーターズの異常サウンド盤『VANCOUVER 2022（Amity 700）』をご紹介しましたが、本作はそのニック・メイスン版と言ってもいい。ロック界でもFLOYD系テーパーは音質レベルが別次元として知られていますが、それを重々承知していても驚かずにいられない化け物サウンドで描かれる「21世紀の初期フロイド」。どうぞ、心ゆくまで存分に味わい尽くしてください。
