Above, all 6 performances. “FROM TOP TO BOTTOM (Shades 472)” featuring 2 performances in Osaka, “SUPER ROCK ’84 TOKYO FIRST DAY (Calm & Storm 015)” and “SECOND DAY (Calm & Storm 016)” covering the performing bands, etc. We have a wide variety of items, but the Nagoya Baseball Stadium in this work is different from any of them. It was the first day of the concert, which was also the worldwide premiere of Kennedy MSG.
This work recorded at such a show is exactly the best audience recording with “super”. Anyway, super clear & super direct & super clear! Because it sucked in lively cheers, clapping, and upcoming cheers, it wouldn’t be mistaken for a sound board, but it seems that the essential performance sound would be mistaken. I understand that there is no reverberation only in an open space with no walls or ceiling, but this sense of zero distance cannot be explained. The guitar, bass, and drums are super close. When I was completely at the sound board level and wondered “Is there any IEMs in 1984?”, The big cheers between the songs blew up and I was amazed at “Oh, it’s an audience …”.
What is drawn with such a transcendental sound is a large ghost performance that surpasses even the official video. First of all, the volume of songs exceeds the official level. Let’s organize by comparing here.

In fact, there are many new discoveries when the sound is good. Especially surprising is the base of Dennis Feldman. It’s already gorigori bribbly. The vibration of the strings is felt in each attack sound, and the groove created by connecting them like beads is also glossy. Of course, the toro tone of Flying V, which is also a big feature of the on-site PA, is the leading role, but the fact that the bass was singing so far … Actually, it is a recording that makes me realize 37 years later that Denis was a hidden talent.
And, after all, Ray Kennedy. It seems that the first rehearsal with MSG was the day of the first day of the performance, but today is the first day. That’s it awesome. I don’t know what to say, but first of all, from the voice, it’s a different person from the official pro shot. Shout & shout with a super husky voice that can be called a “powerful baden”. In the official pro shot, it was “normal voice melody + shout”, but in this work, I feel like I’m trying to get closer to the melody that I remember while screaming the lyrics. Especially in “Ready To Rock”, I completely lost sight of the song, and I can clearly see that I am at a loss even without the video. However, although it is certainly a dangerous performance, on the other hand, he also admires Kennedy’s professional guts that he never gives up. It’s scary to sing in front of tens of thousands of people with the band I met for the first time, but I struggled to get rid of such a large crowd. The song title call of “On And On” was also an angry issue, and I heard the guts of “On and on and on and ohhhhhhhn !!”, and after “Rock Will Never Die”, I could only convey the feeling of “Gogo no Karado Menirigato!” It makes the Japanese (?) That doesn’t come out roar.
In addition, the band introduction at the beginning is showing the enthusiasm that is comparable to Kennedy (although the order is different). The words of a Japanese metal god are too hot, so let’s write them down.

そんなショウで記録された本作は、まさに「超」付きの極上オーディエンス録音。とにかく超クリア＆超ダイレクト＆超鮮明！　生々しい喝采や手拍子、間近の声援も吸い込んでいるのでサウンドボードと間違えたりはしませんが、肝心要の演奏音は間違えてしまいそう。壁も天井もないオープン・スペースだけに反響ゼロなのは分かりますが、このゼロ距離感は説明が付かない。ギターもベースもドラムも超・密着。完全にサウンドボード級で「1984年にIEMsなんてあったっけ？」と思ったところで曲間の大喝采が沸き「あ、オーディエンスなんだ……」と呆気にとられるのです。
そんな超絶サウンドで描かれるのは、オフィシャル映像をも凌駕する大怪演。まず、曲数ボリュームからして公式超え。ここで比較しながら整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。「Ready To Rock」「Attack Of The Mad Axeman」「Rock Will Never Die」も他公演で聴けたわけですが、ここまでの超絶サウンドでは初でしょう。実際、音が良いと新発見もいっぱい。特に驚くのはデニス・フェルドマンのベース。もうゴリッゴリのブリッブリ。アタック音１つひとつに弦の振動が感じられ、それが数珠のように連なることで生まれるグルーヴも艶っ艶。もちろん、現場ＰＡも大フィーチュアしているフライングＶのトロけるトーンこそが主役ではあるものの、ベースもここまで歌っていたとは……実はデニスが隠れた逸材だったと37年後に思い知らされる録音でもあります。
そして、何と言ってもレイ・ケネディ。MSGとの初リハーサルが公演初日の当日だったそうですが、本日こそがその初日。それはそれは凄まじいのです。何から言ったら分かりませんが、まず声からして公式プロショットと別人。「力強いバーデン」とでも言えそうな超ハスキー・ヴォイスでシャウト＆シャウト。公式プロショットでは「普通声のメロディ＋シャウト」だったわけですが、本作では歌詞を叫び散らしつつ、うろ覚えのメロディになんとか寄せていこうとしている感じ。特に「Ready To Rock」では完全に曲を見失っており、映像がなくても途方に暮れているのがよく分かります。しかし、確かに危なっかしいパフォーマンスではあるものの、その一方で決して諦めないケネディのプロ根性に感服したりもする。初めて対面したバンドと数万人の前に出て歌うだけでも恐ろしいのに、そんな大観衆をノセようと大奮闘。「On And On」の曲名コールも怒号で「On and on and on and ohhhhhhhn!!」というド根性を聴かせ、「Rock Will Never Die」の後には「ゴゴノカラドメニリガト！」と気持ちしか伝わってこない日本語（？）を轟かせるのです。
また、（順序が違いますが）そんなケネディにも負けない熱気を振りまいているのが冒頭のバンド紹介。某日本のメタルゴッド氏の言葉があまりにも熱いのでちょっと書き出しておきましょう。

オフィシャル映像と共に伝説となったレイ・ケネディ。MSGでは本領発揮とかけ離れたパフォーマンスしかできなかったわけですが、だからこそ大逆境に立ち向かう闘志が眩しく、熱いのです。しかも、本作は伝説中の伝説である初対面の当日ステージ。本作は（普通とは逆の意味で）ケネディの真価が全開となった奇跡のステージを超・極上サウンドで真空パックしているのです。サウンド・クオリティも、ショウの内容も、まさにド級。これ以上ない衝撃を永久保存したプレスCD、ぜひご体験ください。

The main press CD is a live album where you can experience the first day when Ray Kennedy and Michael Schenker made their first sound. It’s a shocking new excavation. As I mentioned in the commentary, speaking of “SUPER ROCK ’84”, the official video out of print is symbolic. Therefore, we have also prepared a special version of the highest quality.
That’s why this work contains “August 12, 1984: Western Stadium Performance”. This is the multi-camera pro shot. As you know, this show was officially released, but this work is a DVD version of the Japanese laser disc that preserves the video with the highest quality. At our shop, we have reproduced many famous images of rock history from the Japanese version of LaserDisc, and this work is also one of the series. It is a DVD made by taking the best possible means without sticking to high quality. This work is also a famous video, and various VHS wake-ups and bonus DVDRs have been released so far, but it is the highest quality in the world with an order of magnitude higher quality and higher image quality.
How awesome the quality is. It was proved in the WHITESNAKE version where the headliner was shared in the same “SUPER ROCK ’84”. Previously, “SUPER ROCK ’84 IN JAPAN 30TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION”, which was reprinted from WHITESNAKE’s Japanese laser disc like this work, was released, but after a while, the official 1-inch master was discovered. .. It was made into a work as “LIVE IN 1984”. Of course, since it was an original master before commercialization, it should have a much higher image quality than a laser disc … but it was almost the same quality as “SUPER ROCK ’84 IN JAPAN 30TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION”. In other words, the quality of this series reproduced almost all the amount of information that the original master had. The long-awaited formalization has highlighted the ultimate quality of the series.
It’s not just video. The official works of “SUPER ROCK ’84” used to be “the first linear PCM recording in history”, but it made little sense with VHS and consumer laser discs at that time, and it was uselessly over-engineered. did. Thirty years later, the shooting master has already been lost, but with this superlative DVD, the true power has finally been demonstrated!
The MSG edition of such “SUPER ROCK ’84” reprint, that is this work. Unlike David Coverdale, Michael Schenker is completely indifferent to the archive, and probably the work will never be officially revived. Even if you are lucky enough to get it formalized, it should be as good as WHITESNAKE. In other words, this work is definitely the highest quality ever.
The MSG in the summer of 1984, which was revived with such ultimate quality, is wonderful. The main press CD is unprecedented, but when you look at the video, the impact is 100 times that of Kaiohken. That costume that is difficult to put into words, that action, and the lyrics and melody that change with a serious look and improvisation that stares at “something” … The sight that has become a legend is one of the sweat of the forehead. You can see even the grains clearly.
Michael’s enthusiastic performance that supports such Ray as much as possible is also a highlight. All the songs are sharp, but the ones that are extremely clear are the instrumental groups that are fully loaded. In particular, you can fully enjoy the flying V that makes you cry in the 4 instrumental barrages that start with the extremely rare “Lipstick Traces” of “No way!”. Michael will release an instrumental album in later years, but the moment when famous songs and crying are concentrated so far is unique in his long career. It’s a blissful 14 minutes.
And Ray came back with “Lost Horizons” and “I’m Gonna Make You Mine”, and the excitement was ruined. In particular, “I’m Gonna Make You Mine” has been clearly replaced, but the stable singing that makes the high notes sound tight is wonderful. If Ray stays at MSG as it is and makes a new studio album, it’s a song that spreads the wings of imagination.

In modern times, Michael Schenker played not only Gary Barden but also Graham Bonnet. However, the third MSG singer, Ray Kennedy, passed away on February 16, 2014, and will never be able to meet Michael again. というわけで、本作に収められているのは「1984年８月12日：西部スタジアム公演」。そのマルチカメラ・プロショットです。ご存知の通り、このショウは公式リリースされたわけですが、本作はその映像を最高峰クオリティで保存している日本盤レーザーディスクからDVD化された１枚です。当店では、ロック史の名映像の数々を日本版レーザーディスクから復刻しておりますが、本作もそのシリーズの１本。ハイクオリティであることにこだわり抜き、考えられる最高の手段を講じてDVD化したもの。本作も有名映像だけに、今までさまざまなVHS起こしやボーナスDVDRの類がリリースされて来ましたが、それらとは桁違いに高品質・高画質な、世界最高クオリティなのです。
そのクオリティがどれほど凄まじいのか。それは同じ“SUPER ROCK ’84”でヘッドライナーを分け合ったWHITESNAKE篇でも証明されました。以前、本作と同じようにWHITESNAKEの日本盤レーザーディスクから復刻させた『SUPER ROCK ’84 IN JAPAN 30TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION』がリリースされたのですが、それからしばらくしてオフィシャルでもオリジナルの１インチマスターを発掘。『LIVE IN 1984』として作品化したのです。もちろん、製品化以前のオリジナルマスターなのですから、レーザーディスクよりも遙かに高画質……のはずが、なんと『SUPER ROCK ’84 IN JAPAN 30TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION』とほとんど変わらぬクオリティだったのです。つまり、本シリーズのクオリティは、オリジナル・マスターの持っている情報量をほとんど総てを再現しきっていた。待望の公式化のハズが、本シリーズの究極品質ぶりを浮き彫りにしてしまったのです。
映像だけではありません。“SUPER ROCK ’84”のオフィシャル諸作は「史上初のリニアPCM録音」をウリとしていましたが、当時のVHSや民生機レーザーディスクではほとんど意味をなさなず、無駄にオーバー・スペックな音声でした。それから30年、すでに撮影マスターは失われてしまいましたが、最上級にDVD化した本作によって、やっと真の実力が発揮されたのです！
そんな“SUPER ROCK ’84”復刻のMSG編、それが本作です。デイヴィッド・カヴァデールとは違い、マイケル・シェンカーはアーカイヴにはまったく無頓着で、恐らくこの作品が公式で蘇ることはないでしょう。仮に、幸運にも公式化にこぎ着けたとしても、WHITESNAKEと同様に同等のクオリティが精一杯のはず。つまり、本作こそが史上最高クオリティに間違いありません。
そんな究極クオリティで蘇った1984年夏のMSGこそが素晴らしい。本編プレスCDでも空前絶後なのですが、映像で見るとインパクトは界王拳100倍。言葉にするのも難しいあの衣装、あのアクション、そして「何か」を見つめるような真剣な眼差しや即興で変わっていく歌詞やメロディ……もはや伝説とさえなっている光景が、額の汗の１粒まで鮮明に観られるのです。
そんなレイを精一杯支えるようなマイケルの熱演も見所。どの曲でもキレッキレですが、極めつけに冴え渡るのが、たっぷりぶち込まれたインスト群。特に、“まさか！”の激レア「Lipstick Traces」から始まるインスト４連発は、泣きに泣くフライングＶがたっぷり味わえます。後年にはインスト・アルバムもリリースするマイケルですが、ここまで名曲と泣きの集中する瞬間は、長いキャリアの中でも類を見ない。まさに、至福の14分間です。
そして「Lost Horizons」「I’m Gonna Make You Mine」でレイが戻ってきて、せっかくの感動が台無し……かと思いきや、ここでは楽曲と意外な相性を聴かせるパフォーマンスを披露。特に「I’m Gonna Make You Mine」は、明らかに差し替えられていますが、その分、キッチリと高音も響かせる安定した歌唱は見事。このままレイがMSGに留まり、新たなスタジオ・アルバムを作っていたら……と想像の翼が広がる１曲です。

現代ではゲイリー・バーデンだけでなくグラハム・ボネットとの再演まで果たしたマイケル・シェンカー。しかし、３人目のMSGシンガー、レイ・ケネディは2014年２月16日に逝去し、再びマイケルと相まみえることは永久になくなりました。本作のインタビュー・シーンで「ロックンロールは50％が才能、50％がパーソナリティのぶつかり合い」と語るレイ。彼とギターの神が交錯した一瞬、真夏の夢のようだった現実を、世界最高のクオリティで永遠に残す１本です。“栄光のTHE MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP”。その最後の輝き、どうぞこの機会に最高峰クオリティでお楽しみください。
