MEGADETH, featuring Kiko Loureiro, has reached number 3 in the United States for two consecutive albums, and is now enjoying what everyone recognizes as their “second golden age.” Introducing the best live album where you can enjoy the latest stage.
What is inscribed in this work is “Paris performance on August 22, 2023.” It is a transcendental audience recording. Even though the professional shot work “WACKEN 2023 (Shades 1822)”, which recorded a re-co-starring performance with Marty Friedman, has just become a hot topic, this time it will be an audience recording. This is the MEGADETH for 2023 that has been announced so far. Various bands are starting to release schedules for 2024, but MEGADETH has not yet. The “European” leg has just ended, and the Paris performance of this work is the 17th performance in the final stage. It was also a concert that took place 18 days after “WACKEN 2023”, which was a hot topic.
Now, this work is a sync pack of such a show, and it has an unbelievable “super” sound of the highest quality. It’s so great that I want to keep saying “super super…” forever. The extremely thick core, the close contact with zero distance, the ultra-clear details, and the metallic glossy sound are all completely official. Even though I listened carefully with headphones and tried my best to find faults, I couldn’t find any flaws, and the only thing typical of the audience was the real enthusiasm.
What’s more, that enthusiasm is also a beauty, so it’s awe-inspiring. “Hey!! hey!!,” which the entire venue sang together, the promised sing-along of “Hangar 18,” and the big chorus of “Wake Up Dead” were all very powerful. Although it is supposed to be thick, it has a strong sense of perfect synchronization and does not get in the way at all. Well, the band is different, but the way the cheers rise up is like IRON MAIDEN’s “REAL LIVE DEAD ONE”, and the choral spectacle is like ACCEPT’s male chorus on a larger scale. Despite the audience recording, I have referred to the official work, but in other words, the sound quality of this work is on that level.
With such a transcendental spectacle and sound, a full show will be created that will make you feel like you are enjoying the “second golden age.” While the set is very similar to the recent “WACKEN 2023”, it is slightly different from the Japanese performance. Still, it was a great show, and a great deal of excitement. Generally speaking, one’s “heyday” can only be known in retrospect. While listening to the audience recording, you can feel that “this time was the golden age”. However, the ultra-high-precision performance and stately tension that emanate from this work will make you believe that this must be the Golden Age. And then, a tremendous chorus greeted MEGADETH. Even in the 90s when Marty/Nick were together, I wonder if there was a show like this… This is a live album that allows you to fully experience such “now” with a transcendental sound that can only be described with the oxymoron “completely official-class audience”. It’s hard to call it a “cultural heritage” because it’s the latest work, but it’s a super new masterpiece that will definitely be called a “cultural heritage” in a few years. Please enjoy this work to your heart’s content in the “Second Golden Age” that will probably never be repeated a third time!

そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「2023年8月22日パリ公演」。その超絶級オーディエンス録音です。つい先日マーティ・フリードマンとの再共演を記録したプロショット作『WACKEN 2023(Shades 1822)』が話題となったばかりだと言うのに、今度はオーディエンス録音。普通なら考えられないリリースではありますが、本作はそうせざるを得ないほど普通ではない超ド級サウンドの異常作品なのです。
その気になるクオリティの前に、まずはショウのポジション。現行ツアーは細かくスケジュール変更もありますので、現時点で判明している最新状況で確認してみましょう。

これが現在までに公表されている2023年のMEGADETH。様々なバンドで2024年のスケジュールも出始めていますが、MEGADETHはまだです。今は「欧州」レッグが終了したばかりでして、本作のパリ公演は終盤の17公演目。話題を呼んだ『WACKEN 2023』の18日後にあたるコンサートでもありました。
さて、そんなショウをシンクパックした本作ですが、これがもう信じられない「超」付きの極上サウンド。それも「超々々々……」と永遠に続けたいくらい。極太な芯も、完全ゼロ距離なド密着感も、超鮮明なディテールも、金属光沢テラッテラの鳴りもすべてが完全オフィシャル級。ヘッドフォンで耳を澄ませ、全力でアラ探ししても欠点が見つからず、オーディエンスらしさと言えばリアルな熱狂くらいでしょうか。
しかも、その熱狂も美点だから恐れ入る。会場一丸となって突き上げる「Hey!! hey!!」も、「Hangar 18」のお約束シンガロングも、「Wake Up Dead」の大合唱もド迫力。ぶ厚いはずなのに完全一致のシンクロ感が強烈でまったく邪魔にならない。そうですね、バンドは違いますが歓声の沸き上がり方はIRON MAIDENの『REAL LIVE DEAD ONE』のようであり、合唱スペクタクルはACCEPTの男声コーラスを大規模化したような感じ。オーディエンス録音にも関わらず公式作品を引き合いを出してしまいましたが、つまりは本作のサウンド・クオリティがそういう次元にあると言うことなのです。
そんな超絶のスペクタクル・サウンドで描かれるのは「第二の黄金時代」を満喫するようなフルショウ。セットは直近『WACKEN 2023』にも酷似している一方、日本公演とは少々異なる。最後に、日本公演と比較しながら整理しておきましょう。

それにしても凄いショウ、もの凄い盛り上がりです。一般に「全盛期」というのは、後から振り返って分かる。オーディエンス録音を聴きながら「この時が黄金時代だったなぁ」と噛みしめるものです。ところが、本作から吹き出す超高精度な演奏と威風堂々なテンションは、聴いて一発「こりゃ黄金時代に違いない」と納得させられる。そして、そんなMEGADETHを迎える凄まじいばかりの大合唱。それこそマーティ/ニックが揃っていた90年代でも、ここまでのショウがあったかどうか……。そんな「今」を「完全オフィシャル級オーディエンス」なる矛盾表現でしか言い表せない超絶サウンドでフル体験できるライヴアルバムです。最新作だけに「文化遺産」とは呼びづらいですが、数年後には必ずや呼ばれるに違いない超・新名盤。三度目はないであろう「第二の黄金時代」、どうぞ本作で思う存分噛みしめてください!
