MEGADETH returned to North America, the main battlefield, after finishing the historic performance in Japan, which also realized a co-starring with Marty Friedman. A live set that vacuum-packed the latest stage is now available.
This work contains two audience records. It is a two-disc set with DISC 1 for the superb full recording of “Ottawa performance on May 9, 2023” and DISC 2 for the superb view shot of “Abbotsford performance on April 28, 2023”. The activities in 2023 started in Japan, but the main part of the tour is rather from now on. First of all, let’s review the activity schedule and check the position of this work.

This is the 2023 schedule that has been announced so far. The two performances of this work are one act of “North America # 1” which ended just the other day. This tour is a coupling with BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, and all performances are in Canada (conversely, “North America # 2/3” is all in the United States). It’s normal for any band to tour freely across borders without distinguishing between Canada and the United States, so it was a bit of an unusual attempt. Ottawa of this work was the ninth performance, and Abbotsford was the second performance. Let’s introduce each one individually.
[DISC 1: Super tight live album from Ottawa] The first thing to appear is the latest recording that is currently a hot topic. Speaking of what is the topic, it is the quality, and the on-core is a powerful audience with plenty of direct feeling. Initially, a so-so class recording appeared from the Ottawa performance, but this work is the “palm0014” master that was announced later. The first recording was also clear enough, but it is far from the tight feeling of this work that does not make you feel the distance. The upgrade is attracting a lot of attention.A full show different from the Japanese performance is depicted with that direct sound. The most famous of the current tours is Nippon Budokan, so let’s organize the set while comparing the two performances of this work with that pro shot.

If you write it like this, it may seem like a very light-hearted video, but it’s surprisingly good. In the first place, it is not a type of band where members run around, but in recent years it has become a mechanism as if the stage set was made entirely of screens. In this work, you can experience the video production without leaking the maximum. Moreover, the screen image is completely different for each song, and it is flashy and elaborate. Even though it is a fixed video with one camera, you can watch it without getting bored than ordinary live video. And, while making full use of such a variety of images, close-up images of the members do not come out. Normally, it is natural to use it frequently, so it is probably Mustaine’s first-class commitment. It is too thorough and makes me feel strange cleanliness.
In addition, this fixed image is also a sensation with the naked eye. It goes without saying that the human eye does not have a zoom function. In other words, the scene of this work is the full show itself seen from the superb view seat on the second floor stand. Combined with lifelike sound and crisp digital image quality, it’s the ultimate on-site experience.
A thick recording that has become a hot topic among collectors, and a spectacular video that boasts the ultimate experience. It is an audience set where you can enjoy a full show after leaving Japan with two superb records. Two performances in Canada that are a bit regrettable, such as being happy that Mustaine’s condition is getting better than the performance in Japan. Please enjoy it to the fullest!

そんな本作に収められているのは２つのオーディエンス記録。「2023年５月９日オタワ公演」の絶品フル録音をDISC 1、「同４月28日アボッツフォード公演」の絶景ショットをDISC 2に配した２枚組です。2023年の活動は日本から始まったわけですが、ツアー本編はむしろこれから。まずは、その活動スケジュールをおさらいし、本作のポジションを確かめてみましょう。

これが現在までに公表されている2023年のスケジュール。本作の２公演は、つい先日終了した「北米#1」の一幕。このツアーはBULLET FOR MY VALENTINEとのカップリングで、全公演がカナダ（逆に「北米#2／3」はすべて米国です）。どのバンドでもカナダと米国を区別せず、自在に国境をまたいでツアーするのが普通ですので、ちょっと珍しい試みでもありました。本作のオタワはその９公演目、アボッツフォードは２公演目にあたるコンサートでした。それでは、それぞれ個別にご紹介していきましょう。
【DISC 1：オタワ公演の超タイトなライヴアルバム】
まず登場するのは、今話題の最新録音。何が話題かと言えば、そのクオリティでして、オンな芯がダイレクト感たっぷりな強力オーディエンスなのです。オタワ公演からは当初まあまあ級の録音が登場したのですが、本作は後から公表された「palm0014」マスター。最初の録音も充分にクリアだったのですが、距離を感じさせない本作のタイト感には遠く及ばない。そのアップグレードぶりが話題を呼んでいるのです。
そのダイレクト・サウンドで画かれるのは、日本公演とも異なるフルショウ。現行ツアーで最も有名なのは日本武道館でしょうから、本作の２公演もあのプロショットと比較しつつセットを整理しておきましょう。

【DISC 2：アボッツフォード公演の絶景映像】
さて、代わってのDISC 2は映像篇。かなり個性の強いオーディエンス・ショットです。その個性は「ほぼ固定カメラの全景」。ステージ中央を真っ正面に見すえた２階席から撮影されているのですが、一切のズーム／カメラワークがなく、ただひたすらステージ全景を記録し続けているのです。
こう書くとえらく淡泊な映像に思われるかも知れませんが、これが意外とイイ。そもそもメンバーが走り回るタイプのバンドではないわけですが、さらに近年はステージ・セットが丸ごとスクリーンで出来ているかのような仕掛けになっている。本作は、その映像演出を最大漏らさず体験できるのです。しかもそのスクリーン映像は１曲１曲でまるで異なり、ド派手で凝りっ凝り。ワンカメで固定の映像だと言うのに、普通のライヴ映像よりも飽きずに観ていられるのです。そして、それだけ多様な映像を駆使していながらメンバーのアップ映像が出てこない。普通なら多用して当然なのですから、恐らくはムステイン一流のこだわりなのでしょう。あまりにも徹底されていて、妙な潔さを感じさせます。
さらに言いますと、この固定映像が肉眼感覚でもある。当然の話ですが、人間の眼にはズーム機能などない。つまり、本作の光景は２階スタンドの絶景席から観たフルショウそのもの。リアルなサウンド、鮮明なデジタル画質も相まって、究極的な現場体験ができるのです。
コレクター間で話題を呼んでいる極太録音と、究極の体験感を誇る絶景映像。２つの極上記録で離日後のフルショウを楽しめるオーディエンス・セットです。来日公演よりもムステインの調子がググッと上がっているのが嬉しいような、ちょっと口惜しいようなカナダの２公演。どうぞ、存分にお楽しみください！
