LIZZY BORDEN who was voicing as a standard-bearer of 80’s shock rock with W.A.S.P. and TWISTED SISTER. The original recording that vacuum-packed their first performance in Japan, which was like a phantom, is a new excavation.
It’s been 10 years since he came back to Japan (2010), which was said to be a miracle, but the performance in Japan that was realized in the golden age before that was just once. This work is an excellent audience recording that recorded the whole story of such “November 8, 1987: NHK Hall” performance. The first visit to Japan was realized by the masterpiece “VISUAL LIES”, which attracted a lot of attention, but first let’s look back on that time.

This is 1987 LIZZY BORDEN. In their case, the records at that time were limited, and it is difficult to judge whether this was the only record or whether the record was simply lost. In any case, there is no doubt that the miracle visit to Japan was realized two months after “VISUAL LIES”.
This work, which recorded the scene of such a once-in-a-lifetime meeting, is a scorching Odin recording that blows away the preciousness. It’s an original recording only for this work, which was handed over from the recorder himself, but anyway, it’s wonderfully clear. Although the balance is a little closer to the treble, the drums have a clear outline, and each stroke is roaring, and the vocals are clearly transmitted word by word in the lyrics. The twin guitars are beautiful even if each solo dances or harmonizes, and the bass has a solid line (although it is a little retracted). The site 33 years ago is revived wonderfully.
More real than that is the enthusiasm of the site. This is really amazing! Of course, the beautiful performance sound plays the leading role, but it is a loud cheer that burns it and burns it. The enthusiasm of the fans who rushed to Japan for only one night is real, and the cheers of delight at every move of the stage boiled like a tsunami, calling for a big chorus of chorus. On the scene, Lizzie sings in a mid-pantomime-like performance, shedding her blood and flesh and dropping it with a mannequin neck guillotine. It’s a super-realistic live album where the impact of the scene comes to your eyes.

Speaking of their live performances, the traditional version “THE MURDERESS METAL ROAD SHOW” comes to mind, but the main ones who came to Japan for the first time were the subsequent two works “MENACE TO SOCIETY” and “VISUAL LIES”. The official live version is covered with only 4 songs “Give’Em The Ax”, “Psychopath”, “Red Rum” and “American Metal”, and there are plenty of delicious masterpieces.
Anyway, it’s an intensely realistic impact album. In Japan, where even Emperor Alice Cooper struggles with shock rock, it’s just because there are too few opportunities to experience it. The first meeting between LIZZY BORDEN and Japan was so fierce that I was convinced that it was a terrible show. It is a miracle live album that vacuum-packs such a unique historical scene from the opening SE using the movie “The Shining” to the ending announcement. It just curses the lack of literary talent who calls “amazing” all the time, but this shock can only be heard. It is truly a cultural heritage and a proof of history. Here is the world premiere!

W.A.S.P.やTWISTED SISTERと共に80年代ショックロックの旗手として気を吐いていたLIZZY BORDEN。幻のようだった彼らの初来日公演を真空パックしたオリジナル録音は新発掘です。
奇跡と言われた再来日（2010年）からもう10年が経ったわけですが、それ以前の黄金時代に実現した来日公演は一回こっきり。本作は、そんな「1987年11月８日：NHKホール」公演の一部始終を記録した絶品オーディエンス録音なのです。初来日は傑作『VISUAL LIES』によって一気に注目度が高まって実現したわけですが、まずはそんな当時を日程で振り返ってみましょう。

これが1987年のLIZZY BORDEN。彼らの場合、当時の記録は限定的で、本当にこれだけだったのか単に記録が失われてしまったのかは判断しかねるところ。ともあれ、奇跡の来日は『VISUAL LIES』から２ヶ月というタイミングで実現した事は間違いありません。
そんな一期一会の現場を記録した本作は、貴重度も吹っ飛ばす灼熱のオーディンス録音。録音家本人から譲られた本作だけのオリジナル録音なのですが、とにかく素晴らしくクリア。やや高音に寄ったバランスではあるものの、ドラムは輪郭もクッキリとした一打一打がビシビシと轟き、ヴォーカルは歌詞の一語一語までハッキリと伝わる。ツイン・ギターは１本１本のソロが乱舞してもハーモニーで迫っても美しく、ベースは（やや引っ込み気味ではあるものの）ラインもしっかり。33年前の現場が見事に甦るのです。
それ以上にリアルなのが、現場の熱狂。これが本当に凄い！ もちろん、あくまでも美しい演奏音が主役を張っているものの、それを炙って焚きつけ、燃え上がらせる大声援。たった一晩の来日公演に駆けつけたファンの熱狂は本物で、ステージの一挙手一投足に歓喜する声援が津波のように沸き上がり、サビの大合唱を呼ぶ。現場ではリジーが半ばパントマイムのようなパフォーマンスで歌い、血肉を飛ばし、マネキンの首ギロチンで落としている。その光景の衝撃が目に浮かんでくる超リアル・ライヴアルバムなのです。
もちろん、苛烈な熱狂を引き出しまくるのは音楽が凄いからこそ。ここで、そのセットもご紹介しておきましょう。

とにかく、強烈なまでにリアルなインパクト・アルバムです。帝王アリス・クーパーでさえ苦戦するほどショックロックが根付かない日本ではありますが、それは単に実体験する機会が少なすぎるからにすぎない。そう確信するほどLIZZY BORDENと日本の初対面は苛烈で、凄まじいショウが繰り広げられていました。そんな２つとない歴史的な現場を映画『シャイニング』を使用した開演SEから終演アナウンスまで真空パックした奇跡のライヴアルバムです。「凄い」ばかり連呼する文才の無さを呪うばかりですが、この衝撃は聴いていただくしかない。まさに文化遺産であり、歴史の証拠品。ここに堂々の世界初公開です！
