The unstoppable 70’s KISS professional shot excavation series. Two outflow masters of 1977, which is the latest bullet, will be released at the same time!
This work is the first of such two series. It is a multi-camera pro shot of “February 18, 1977 New York performance”. Speaking of 1977, it is also a time when three tours are mixed, and the time is close to the recent excavation pro shot series. In order to grasp the positional relationship of each, it will be a little long, but let’s take a bird’s eye view of the activity summary for two years.

This is the 1976/1977 KISS. The “ROCK & ROLL OVER Tour” spans the year-end and New Year holidays, and the MSG performance of this work is about a month before the first visit to Japan. It was a concert that was the 30th performance of “North America # 4b”.
This show has long been known for its professional shots, and has been formalized as a bonus DVD for “KISSOLOGY VOLUME ONE”. This work is also the same pro shot, but it is a full-length version that is much longer than the official version. If you are an avid collector, you may already know that the long version master is on the market, but this work is (of course) different. It is a new excavation master for the first time in the world brought from a unique stakeholder route that has repeatedly released shocking works, and it is a shocking work with greatly upgraded sound and images.
“The quality is truly unprecedented.” Compared to the previous version, it is clearly young and has much less dubbing marks, and there is almost no white line noise that was an eyesore. More than that, the pixel itself is completely different. Details that have been crushed until now are left in detail, and even the wrinkles on the face hidden by makeup are clearly drawn. You can even see that the snare and strap, which you thought had a smooth surface, had a pattern.
“The voice is also completely different.” A beautifully floating contour, a glossy sound without distortion, a clear detail up to the breathing of the vocal, a beautiful separate feeling up to 11 notes for each instrument …. When I try to synchronize playback with the conventional version, I can see that the performance is the same, but when I listened to it, it was reborn so vividly that I thought it was a different live performance.
The full set of the “ROCK & ROLL OVER Tour”, which explodes in the United States, is depicted with such master quality. As mentioned above, it is much longer than the official version of “KISSOLOGY”, so let’s check the increase while comparing.

… and it looks like this. Out of all 15 songs, more than half of the 8 songs are significant upgrades. And the set is basically the same as the first visit to Japan. Currently, “COMPLETE BUDOKAN 1977 AFTERNOON SHOW / EVENING SHOW” is a big hit, but this work is also its home country American version.
The climax full show alone will fill you up, but this work also includes valuable bonus footage. Three songs “I Want You”, “Love ‘Em And Leave ‘Em” and “Hard Luck Woman” in the TV program “Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert” that appeared on “May 28, 1977”. This is also a leaked master that is different from the official “KISSOLOGY” version, and instead of Don Kirshner’s talk, it is recorded from the work countdown scene. The colors are more vividly emphasized in the official version, but the details and resolution of this work are much higher.
KISS is said to hold their last concert in 2023. The venue is likely to be in his hometown of New York. New York is the land of such beginnings and will be the land of the end. Speaking of its pronoun, Madison Square Garden is the only one, and what is engraved in this work is KISS in its heyday standing on the symbol stage. It is a multi-camera pro shot that captures the full show of the career climax, and the master outflow master who has greatly updated its highest peak. Please fully experience the press DVD that will never lose its shine.

The main press DVD is a complete version master with a major upgrade of the classic MSG pro shot. He is a hidden treasure master who will symbolize the “ROCK & ROLL OVER Tour” at its peak in the future. However, the new excavation master of this show was not the only one. Celebrating the birth of the main press DVD that will be an eternal masterpiece, “another MSG77” brought from the same route will also be included as a special bonus!
So, what is recorded in this work is the same “New York performance on February 18, 1977” as the main press DVD. This is a shot of the person concerned. It is also a point that I did not express it as “pro shot” here. Actually, it is a professional shooting by the person concerned, and the counter is also displayed as a telop whether it is for management. However, the style is very different from the main press DVD, and it feels like the material was taken from the camera pit on the left side of the stage (the viewfinder of the camera crew who seems to be shooting the main video is also reflected). There are 9 songs in the following songs, but each is not a complete performance, but a few minutes of recording, and the sound is also collected by a microphone.
Rather than putting the characteristics into words, I think it would be easier for our customers to say “excavated 8mm work style”. I don’t think it’s actually 8mm, but the vintage texture, the feeling of digesting the highlights of the show, and the historical real thrill of precious images are similar to 8mm works.
After such precious footage, a TV program with a sense of history is also recorded as a bonus. It was the 1977 “The People’s Choice Awards”. Beginning in 1975 and continuing to this day, KISS’s “Beth” won the Favorite New Song category at the 3rd annual award in 1977. KISS-related excerpts are recorded from the award ceremony broadcasted on TV.
The visual beauty of the best master is also wonderful, but what is important is the content. “The People’s Choice Awards” targets not only rock/pop music, but also entertainment in general, such as movies and TV dramas, and the sense of the times of the nominated faces is amazing. Barbra Streisand, whose “A Star Is Born” was No. 1 in the U.S., Olivia Newton-John, who had a series of hits such as “Lonely Whispers” and “Twilight Love”, and the actor “Rocky (first work)”. Sylvester Stallone, who just broke in 2010, Farrah Fawcett who appeared in “2300 Journey to the Future”, and John Wayne in the posthumous work “The Last Shootist” are still alive. The TV drama “Detective Starsky & Hutch” may also be a source of nostalgia for some of you.
KISS’s “Beth” actually won the award. Of course, it is exhilarating to see her make-up stand out among the awards, but I also feel that the selection of “Beth” has a connection with the general public. In many ways, you can feel KISS’ position in the entertainment world at the time. In addition to playing the promo video of “Beth”, KISS himself also appeared on the program. On the day of the award ceremony, he was in the middle of the Waterloo performance, and he expressed his gratitude from the stage on the relay. Lydia Criss accepted the award on behalf of the band. She was Peter’s wife at the time, and “Beth” was written for her (although “Beth” is her old friend’s wife, Becky).
“LARGO 1977”, which will be released at the same time, comes with a separate edited version as a bonus, but this work is not an editing difference or an outtake. 本編プレスDVDは、大定番MSGプロショットが大幅アップグレードした完全版マスター。未来永劫、絶頂“ROCK & ROLL OVER Tour”を象徴していくであろう関係者流出の秘宝マスターです。ところが、このショウの新発掘マスターは、その１本だけではありませんでした。永遠の名作となる本編プレスDVDの誕生を祝し、同じルートからもたらされた「もう１つのMSG77」も特別ボーナス付属決定です！
と言うわけで、本作に記録されているのは本編プレスDVDと同じ「1977年２月18日ニューヨーク公演」。その関係者ショットです。ここで「プロショット」と表現しなかったのもポイント。実際には関係者によるプロ撮影なのですし、管理用なのかカウンターもテロップ表示されている。しかし、その作風は本編プレスDVDと大きく異なっていまして、ステージ左側のカメラピットから資料撮影した感じ（本編映像を撮影していると思しきカメラクルーのファインダーが映り込んだりもします）。下記の曲目では９曲分ありますが、それぞれが完全演奏でもなく数分ずつの収録で、音声もマイクによる集音です。
特徴を言葉にしていくより、当店のお客様には「発掘８ミリ作品風」と言った方が分かりやすいでしょうか。実際には８ミリではないとも思いますが、ヴィンテージな風合いも、ショウの見どころをダイジェストした感覚、貴重映像のヒストリカルな醍醐味も、８ミリ作品に通じるものがあるのです。
そんな貴重映像の後には、さらに歴史感たっぷりなTV番組もボーナス収録しています。それは1977年の“The People’s Choice Awards”。1975年に始り、現在も続いてる般視聴者参加型の賞で、1977年の第３回ではKISSの「Beth」が新曲部門（Favorite New Song）を受賞しました。TV放送された受賞セレモニーの中からKISS関係を抜粋して収録しているわけです。
ベスト・マスターの映像美も素晴らしいですが、肝心なのはその内容。“The People’s Choice Awards”はロック／ポップスだけでなく、映画やTVドラマなどエンターテインメント全般を対象としており、ノミネートされているメンツの時代感がスゴい。『スター誕生』が全米１位に輝いていたバーブラ・ストライサンド、「一人ぼっちの囁き」「たそがれの恋」等ヒットを連発していたオリビア・ニュートン＝ジョン、俳優では『ロッキー（第一作）』でブレイクしたばかりのシルベスター・スタローンや『2300年未来への旅』出演したファラ・フォーセット、遺作『ラスト・シューティスト』時代のジョン・ウェインもまだ存命。TVドラマの『刑事スタスキー＆ハッチ』辺りも郷愁に胸をえぐられる方がいらっしゃるのではないでしょうか。
そんな中で実際に受賞したのがKISSの「Beth」。もちろんメイク姿はアワードの中で異彩を放っているのが爽快だったりするわけですが、その中で「Beth」というセレクトが一般との接点も感じる。いろいろな意味で、当時のエンターテインメント界におけるKISSのポジションが感じられるのです。そして、番組では「Beth」のプロモ映像を流すだけでなく、KISS自身も登場。授賞式当日はウォータールー公演の真っ最中でして、中継でステージ上から感謝の言葉を述べています。そして、バンドを代表して賞を受け取ったのはリディア・クリス。彼女は当時のピーターの妻で、「Beth」は彼女のために書かれた曲でもありました（ただし「ベス」とは旧友の妻ベッキーの事だそう）。
同時リリースとなる『LARGO 1977』には別編集版がボーナス付属しましたが、本作は編集違いやアウトテイクではありません。しかし、本編プレスDVDには出てこない現場の光景を目撃する醍醐味はたっぷりで、歴史的スペクタクルはそれ以上です。貴重な“The People’s Choice Awards”も合わせ、絶頂の「1977年」を肌で感じられる１枚。超極上の本編と貴重な本作を一挙に手に入れられるチャンス、どうぞどなた様もお見逃しなく！
