Engraved on this work are two representative stereo soundboard recordings of that wonderful “PAINKILLER Tour”. A two-disc set that includes “July 12, 1991 Irvine Performance” as the main bonus and “September 13, 1990 Foundation Forum Performance”. Yes, this work is a detailed reprint of the super masterpiece “DEFINITIVE PAINKILLER LIVE”, which is said to be the masterpiece of the music genre “Heavy Metal”, beyond the realm of one band. While maintaining the super direct feeling and sharp edges of the outflow sound board, the rich ringing is just full of “official class” elegance. Moreover, the inter-song part that was cut in the pro shot sound is also complemented, and the show is completely seamlessly recorded. It is finished in a superb live album where nothing can be found even if you search for Ara with all your might. The Irvine performance was formalized in the 50th anniversary box, right?” That is correct. In fact, when the official box was announced, it was thought that the role of this work was over, but it was not the case when it was actually released. The official version also contains all the songs of the concert, but it was cut before the performance, between songs, and after the performance, probably in order to fit it on one CD. In addition to this, the official version has various gaps between songs, but this work allows you to enjoy the full show with a real-time feeling because it is an audience. Of course, the sound quality itself is completely five minutes with the official version, and the reality is even higher because it matrixes the real on-site audience. [Supreme ultimate PAINKILLER live] In addition to such Irvine performances, this work also includes the finest sound board of “September 13, 1990 Foundation Forum”. This show was an event appearance just before the “PAINKILLER Tour” and was also the first stage of Scott Travis. This sound board is also formalized in the 50th anniversary box, but this work is recorded in the highest peak master of the broadcast version. As a matter of fact, the official version of this foundation and forum sound source is longer and better, but it was also permanently preserved as the truth of the broadcast version.

As a matter of fact, there are other songs such as “Metal Meltdown” only for audience records and “Hell Patrol” only after reunion, but this is the sound board where 39-year-old Rob Halford barks. “Better By You Better Than Me” is also surprisingly delicious. Both are takes that are used in the official Bortra, but this work also includes “Diamonds & Rust” and “The Green Manalishi”, so the three major covers of the 70’s are complete. It is surprisingly rare throughout the history of PRIEST to be able to enjoy these three songs on the sound board at the same time, and it is a point that tickles the hearts of old maniacs.

The main press 2CD is exactly the masterpiece of the music genre “Heavy Metal”. It is the longest and highest peak sound board album that could not be exceeded even in the official version. As I mentioned in the commentary, the sound board sound of the leaked pro shot was the origin. Therefore, as a bonus to celebrate the reprint of the super masterpiece, a video version full pro shot will also be specially included.
That’s why this work contains the same “Irvine performance on July 12, 1991” as the main press 2CD. It is the multi-camera pro shot. This video was excavated in 2016, and is a shocking work that shocked collectors around the world. Although the sound board audio has been formalized, the video version is still a valuable video that is only unofficial. What is shocking, its overwhelming quality. Until then, there were Detroit performances and Rock in Rio pro shots from the “PAINKILLER Tour”, but this is a completely different dimension. It has been thought that “the image quality of the professional shot in the PAINKILLER era is …”, but this is already the image quality, sound, mix … everything is official grade. It was so frightening that at the time there was a rumor that “Isn’t it excavated for the 30th anniversary of PAINKILLER!?”
However, this video itself was not a complete first appearance. About 4 songs were broadcast on TV from the time of the tour, and 2 songs were also used for the official. There is a time counter at the bottom of the screen, and it seems to be an outflow from the master during the editing of the broadcasting station, but you can witness the heavy metal paradise with terrifying master freshness and extreme quality.
A heavy metal live portrayed with that transcendent quality… this is the reason why it is a “symbol”. After all, in this work, the band potential that created “that” super masterpiece “PANKILLER” is fully developed on the stage. The point is in the show position. As I mentioned in the main sound commentary, “PAINKILLER Tour” is the largest tour in PRIEST history that exceeds even the 80’s. For that reason, the conditions are completely different depending on which position on the tour. In the Japanese performance, it was better to take a two-week break, but I think some of you may remember that it was a show that made you feel tired.
And the Irvine performance of this work is the final leg of the tour, “North America #4”, but the point is just before that. As you can see from the schedule of the main commentary, we are taking a big break of only 3 months on the tour, and this work is only 2 performances since the tour resumed. The ensemble, which has been doing a lot of shows with Bissiri & Tappuri, is intact, and it has plenty of momentum after the break. For that reason, the show packed in this work is in great shape. Unlike the previous feature-length professional shots (Detroit performance & Rock in Rio), Rob, who screams in the whole story, is full of fulfillment, like enjoying the historical revival with his whole body. “All Guns Blazing” Speaking of the sharpness of the intro a cappella shout ….

本編プレス２CDは、まさに音楽ジャンル「ヘヴィメタル」の最高傑作。公式版ですら超えることが出来なかった最長・最高峰のサウンドボード・アルバムです。その解説でも触れましたが、大元になったのは流出プロショットのサウンドボード音声。そこで、超名盤の復刻を祝うボーナスとして映像版フル・プロショットも特別付属致します。
と言うわけで、本作に収められているのは本編プレス２CDと同じ「1991年７月12日アーバイン公演」。そのマルチカメラ・プロショットです。この映像は2016年に発掘され、世界中のコレクターに激震が走ったという衝撃作。サウンドボード音声は公式化されましたが、映像版は未だに非公式のみという貴重映像なのです。なにが衝撃って、その圧倒的なクオリティ。それまでも“PAINKILLER Tour”からはデトロイト公演やロック・イン・リオのプロショットがありましたが、そんなものとはまったくの別次元。「PAINKILLER時代のプロショットは画質が……」と思われ続けてきたわけですが、これはもう画質・サウンド・ミックス……すべてがオフィシャル級。あまりの凄まじさに、当時「PAINKILLER30周年のために発掘したんじゃないのか!?」と噂が立ったほどなのです。
ただし、この映像自体は完全な初登場でもなかった。ツアー当時から４曲ほどがテレビ放送され、２曲がオフィシャルにも使用された。そんな細切れ映像のフル・バージョン。画面下部にタイム・カウンターがあり、放送局の編集途中マスターからの流出のようですが、それだけに怖ろしいほどのマスター鮮度と極限クオリティで重金属パラダイスが目の当たりにできるのです。
その超絶クオリティで描かれる重金属ライヴ………これこそが“象徴”たる所以です。何しろ、本作は“あの”超傑作『PANKILLER』を生み出したバンド・ポテンシャルがステージ全開に繰り広げられるのです。その要はショウのポジションにある。本編音解説でも触れましたが、“PAINKILLER Tour”は80年代さえも超えるPRIEST史上最大級のツアー。その分、ツアーのどのポジションかによってコンディションがまるで違う。日本公演では、２週間の休みを取っただけマシではありましたが、それでも疲れを感じさせるショウだったことをご記憶の方もいらっしゃるのではないでしょうか。
そして本作のアーバイン公演はツアー最終レッグの「北米#4」にあたるのですが、ポイントはその直前。本編解説の日程をご覧の通り、ツアーで唯一の３ヶ月もの大きな休みを取っており、本作はツアー再開からわずか２公演目。ビッシリ＆タップリとショウをこなしまくってこなれきったアンサンブルはそのままに、休み明けの勢いまでたっぷりなのです。それだけに、本作に詰まっているショウは絶好調。これまでの長編プロショット（デトロイト公演＆ロック・イン・リオ）とも異なり、全編で叫びに叫ぶロブも歴史的な復活劇を全身で楽しみ尽くすような充実感に溢れている。「All Guns Blazing」イントロのアカペラ・シャウトの鋭さと言ったら……。
