And JOURNEY in 1986, with three people remaining and heading for collapse despite being in full bloom. A masterpiece soundboard album representing “RAISED ON RADIO Tour” is now available.
“October 15, 1986 Philadelphia performance” is included in this work. It is the stereo sound board recording. “RAISED ON RADIO” was a majestic hit that jumped to 4th place in the United States, but the tour ended in about 4 months due to Steve Perry’s efforts. I just fell into a hiatus. First, let’s look back on the schedule at that time and confirm the position of the show.

This is JOURNEY in 1986/1987. It was all a show in my home country, America, not even in Canada, let alone Europe. Moreover, only “North America # 1” can be called a “tour” with a large number of performances, and the Philadelphia performance of this work was the 23rd performance in the first half.
This show was also known to have been broadcast on the radio, and its FM sound board reigned as a standard. It has been loved as a representative live album of a rare period. This work is also a classic FM broadcast, but it is not a copy or remaster that has already been published, but a new master that was recently discovered. It is the highest peak version created by the DAT master who recorded the FM broadcast (DAT recording seems to be a rebroadcast, but the detailed broadcast date is unknown). The released recording enthusiast also says that there is no difference in sound quality from the past, but that is humble. In the conventional master, the peak is distorted and the vocal sashisuseso is smooth, and there is almost no reception noise. What’s more, it’s a soundboard album that carefully removes the DJs that were covered in the broadcast and acts as a “substitute for official works”.
What is drawn with such quality is a show full of active feeling that is different from the later Greatest Hits while summarizing the golden age. Another one for “RAISED ON RADIO Tour”, the Detroit performance sound board is also a standard, but the set is different from this work. Let’s organize by comparing here.

Suddenly it starts with “Only The Young” provided for the movie “Vision Quest / Youth Bet”, and also selects from “RAISED ON RADIO” repertoire and Steve Perry’s solo album “STREET TALK”. Although it was a golden hit parade that thrived on the charts at that time, famous songs that could only be “RAISED ON RADIO Tour” popped out one after another. Especially, “Raised On Radio”, Perry’s solo song, and standard “Jailhouse Rock” are limited songs only for this tour. It’s a show that is too tasty, “rare but not sober.”
And the performance of spelling such a set is also rare and gorgeous. The official members at the time were a trio of Steve, Neal Schon, and Jonathan Cain, but they were supported by Randy Jackson, who later officially joined, and Billy Idol, Daryl Hall & John Oates, and Kenny Loggins. Mike Baird is also known for his activities with. The iron-walled beats that have been illuminated in numerous sessions are pouring new vitality into the masterpieces.
The “RAISED ON RADIO Tour” is a hit parade surrounded by great cheers, but the rare songs and ensembles that can only be heard on this tour are delicious. これが1986年／1987年のJOURNEY。ヨーロッパはおろかカナダ公演すらなく、すべて母国アメリカのショウでした。しかもまとまった公演数の“ツアー”と呼べるのは「北米#1」だけで、本作のフィラデルフィア公演はその前半23公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
このショウはラジオ放送された事でも知られ、そのFMサウンドボードが大定番に君臨。レアな時期の代表ライヴアルバムとして愛されてきました。本作もまたその定番FM放送ですが、既発のコピーやリマスターではなく、最近発掘された新マスター。FM放送を録音したDATマスターから起こされた最高峰盤なのです（DAT録音ということは再放送と思われますが、詳しい放送日は分かっていません）。公開した録音マニアは「従来と音質差はない」とも言っていますが、それは謙遜。従来マスターではピークが歪んでキツかったヴォーカルのサ行（サシスセソ）も滑らかで、受信ノイズもほとんど見られない。しかも、放送で被せられていたDJなども丁寧に除去され、十分に「オフィシャル作品代わり」を務めてくれるサウンドボード・アルバムなのです。
そんなクオリティで描かれるのは、黄金時代の総括ながら後のグレイテスト・ヒッツとは異なる現役感溢れるショウ。“RAISED ON RADIO Tour”にはもう１本、デトロイト公演サウンドボードも定番ですが、本作とはセットが違う。ここで比較しながら整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。いきなり映画『ビジョン・クエスト/青春の賭け』に提供した「Only The Young」からスタートしますし、『RAISED ON RADIO』レパートリーやスティーヴ・ペリーのソロアルバム『STREET TALK』からもセレクト。当時チャートを賑わせた黄金のヒット・パレードながら“RAISED ON RADIO Tour”でしかあり得ない名曲が次から次へと飛び出すのです。特に「Raised On Radio」やペリーのソロ曲、スタンダード「Jailhouse Rock」あたりはこのツアーだけの限定曲。「レアではあるけど地味ではない」という美味しすぎるショウなのです。
そして、そんなセットを綴るパフォーマンスもレア＆ゴージャス。当時の正式メンバーはスティーヴ、ニール・ショーン、ジョナサン・ケインのトリオだったわけですが、彼らを支えるのは後に正式加入するランディ・ジャクソン、それにビリー・アイドル、ダリル・ホール&ジョン・オーツ、ケニー・ロギンスとの活動でも知られるマイク・ベアード。数々のセッションでも照明されてきた鉄壁のビートで名曲群に新たな生命力を注ぎ込んでいるのです。
