JOURNEY in 2023, celebrating its 50th anniversary, and the latest “FREEDOM Tour” is also very popular. A masterpiece video that conveys the latest stage is now available.
This work was filmed at “Lincoln Performance on May 20, 2023”. It is a superb view audience shot that can witness the whole story. Speaking of JOURNEY’s latest tour, “STOCKTON & FRESNO 2023 (Uxbridge 1913)”, which was very well received the other day, is also fresh in our memory. The main part of the tour, which repeats the movement and stage every day, ends at the end of April, with three days in May and only one-off stages in July. What happens next is still undecided. The Lincoln performance of this work was the final day of the three consecutive performances in May.
This work recorded at such a show is a sister work by the same person as the previous work “STOCKTON & FRESNO 2023”. However, the style is completely different, and while the previous work was pushed with close-up close-up from the stage, this work is a type that overlooks the stage from a slightly distant position. The word “distance” tends to be hated by audiences, but this is not the case with this work. The slightly wider field of view allows you to clearly see the state of the stage, and the camera work that does not force zooming is just like the naked eye. Moreover, there is no obstruction in the scene, and you can see the stage directly above the audience of the arena on the first floor. The special seat feeling is more comfortable to be said to be “material video by stakeholders” rather than general audience shots.
And the superb voice that supports the superb view is also wonderful. I said that the sight is “a little distant”, but the sound has no sense of distance. Is it the sweet spot of the venue, the side of the sound board table, or is it synchronizing another recording … …. Although it is not possible to affirm what the circumstances are, it is a direct sound that is almost the same as the previous work “STOCKTON & FRESNO 2023” which was close.

And the performance that spells out such a set is in great shape. Arnel Pineda is especially wonderful. Before he knew it, he was 55 years old after 16 years of enrollment. Although the singing voice still retains its youthfulness, honestly, it has gotten better and worse. And the Lincoln performance of this work is his hit day. As mentioned above, it is a special performance that is separated from the main part of the tour, so you can not see the fatigue, and you can sing really relaxedly. It shows off plenty of throats that are better than the previous work “STOCKTON & FRESNO 2023”.
Before you know it, 6 years have passed since JOURNEY’s last visit to Japan. The future schedule has not been announced, but I would like to ask for a performance in Japan to commemorate the 50th anniversary. これが現在までに公表されている2023年のスケジュール。連日みっちりと移動とステージを繰り返すツアー本編は４月末に一区切り付けており、５月は３日間、７月には単発的なステージだけ。その後の動きはまだ未定です。本作のリンカーン公演は、５月の３連続公演でも最終日にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウで記録された本作は、前作『STOCKTON & FRESNO 2023』と同じ人物による姉妹作。ただし、作風はまったく異なりまして前作がステージ間近席から接写のド迫力で押していたのに対し、本作はやや距離のあるポジションからステージをじっくりと見渡すタイプです。「距離」という単語はオーディエンス物で忌み嫌われがちなのですが、本作に関してはそうではありません。やや広めに捉えた視界はステージの様子がよく分かり、無理にズームしないカメラワークは肉眼感覚そのもの。しかも、その光景には遮蔽物がなく、１階アリーナ客の遙か頭上を素通りしてステージを直視できる。その特等席感は一般的なオーディエンス・ショットというより「関係者による資料映像」と言われた方がしっくり来る感じです。
そして、その絶景を支える極上の音声も素晴らしい。光景は「やや距離がある」と申しましたが、サウンドには距離感がまるでない。会場のスウィート・スポットなのか、サウンドボード卓の側なのか、はたまた別録音をシンクロさせているのか……。どういう事情かは断言できないものの、間近席だった前作『STOCKTON & FRESNO 2023』とほとんど変わらないダイレクト・サウンドなのです。
そんな特等席から見つめられるのは、50年の歴史が詰まったグレイテスト・ヒッツ。ざっくばらんに言って背作『STOCKTON & FRESNO 2023』と変わらないわけですが、念のためここでも整理しておきましょう。

そして、そんなセットを綴るパフォーマンスが絶好調。特に素晴らしいのがアーネル・ピネダ。彼も気づけば在籍16年にして55歳。その歌声は未だに若々しさを保っているものの、正直調子の良し悪しが大きくなっても来ました。そして、本作のリンカーン公演は、彼の当たり日。前述のようにツアー本編と切り離された特別公演のためか疲れも見えず、実に伸びやかに歌い上げている。前作『STOCKTON & FRESNO 2023』よりも好調なノドをたっぷりと披露してくれるのです。
気がつけば、前回来日から６年もの月日が経ってしまったJOURNEY。今後のスケジュールは発表されていませんが、50周年を記念する来日公演をぜひともお願いしたい。その乾きを癒す……いや、より一層掻き立ててしまう罪作りな最新のフル体験映像。どうぞ、心ゆくまで存分にお楽しみください。
