Jeff Beck With Johnny Depp / Boston 2022 / 2CDR / Uxbridge
MGM Music Hall, Boston, MA, USA 6th October 2022
Jeff Beck & Johnny Depp have become the eyes of a typhoon with surprising combinations and unexpected chemistry. The latest and best live albums will be released at the same time!
This work is the first of such two series. It is a superb audience recording of “Boston performance on October 6, 2022”. At our shop, we have been introducing the shocking coupling tour with live albums since the beginning, and since then we have occasionally reported the state of the tour with representative sound sources in real time. Under such circumstances, let’s check what kind of position this week’s two works will be from the overall picture of the activity.
・ May 27-June 7: UK (9 performances) ← * GLASGOW 2022
・June 19-July 15: Europe #1 (12 performances) ← * OSLO 2022
《“18” released on July 15》
・ July 17-July 25: Europe # 2 (7 performances) ← * UMBRIA JAZZ FESTIVAL 2022
・September 23-October 23: North America #1 (21 performances) ← Coco
・ November 1-12: North America # 2 (9 performances)
This is the 2022 schedule that has been announced so far. Until July, I was traveling around Europe, but from September, I will finally go to Depp’s homeland, America. The two works of this time are the record of “North America # 1” which will be the first report. The Boston performance of this work was the 9th concert.
This work, which is a vacuum-packed version of such a show, is a superb recording with “super”. It is definitely an audience recording from the lively applause between songs and after Depp’s appearance, but the essential performance sound is far from the customer record. I can do that too. The core is very thick, there is no sense of distance, the details are fine… Yet it seems to absorb the casual hall noise that acts unconsciously, and the tone of the guitar shines with luster. We have delivered the best recordings of each country so far, but this time the dimension is different.
“Even though it’s just that sound, there’s a reason for it.” In fact, this work is the work of a modern virtuoso and a renowned master. The taper is a person named “Farve4”. A recording artist who has released classic rock masterpieces one after another in recent years. Boston recording of TOTO’s “BOSTON & DETROIT 2022 (Uxbridge 1598)” is very popular. If you have experienced even one of these, I think it will come to mind, but this work is a top-class item in the master collection.
With such a transcendental sound, the whole picture of the coupling show that is creating a frenzy in each country is depicted. The set has changed with the landing in the United States, so let’s organize it while comparing it with the latest “UMBRIA JAZZ FESTIVAL 2022 (Uxbridge 1742)”.
First half (instrumental stage)
・ “18”: Midnight Walker / Caroline, No
・Album songs: Freeway Jam (★)/Big Block/Loose Cannon (★)/Star Cycle/Brush With the Blues/You Never Know/Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers
・Other covers: Me and the Devil Blues (★) / You Know You Know
The second half (with Johnny Depp)
・ “18”: This Is A Song For Miss Heady Lamarr / Isolation / Time / The Death And Resurrection Show
・Others: Rumble/A Day In The Life/Corpus Christi Carol(★)/Little Wing
* Note: The “★” marks are songs that could not be heard in the previous work “UMBRIA JAZZ FESTIVAL 2022”.
… and it looks like this. “Corpus Christi Carol” was added after Depp appeared, but this is a song that could be heard in “GLASGOW 2022 (Uxbridge 1672)” and “OSLO 2022 (Uxbridge 1749)” at the beginning of the tour. The big change was in the first half of the instrumental show, and the familiar “Freeway Jam” was selected for the pole position. After that, Robert Johnson’s “Me and the Devil Blues” and “Loose Cannon” of “YOU HAD IT COMING” have appeared for the first time on the tour. In particular, “Me and the Devil Blues” is a rare song that has been played only to the extent that it can be counted on one hand.
In any case, you can enjoy the latest show with super-superb sound far from the audience. That’s all. This time it was an incident tour co-starring with Johnny Depp, but this work may be its masterpiece. A live album so far. Please enjoy it to the fullest.
★ Superb audience recording of “October 6, 2022 Boston performance”. The latest recording by the master “Farve4”, who is said to be a modern master, the core is very thick, there is no sense of distance, and the details are fine… yet there is a casual hall sound that acts unconsciously. It seems to be sucking in, and the tone of the guitar shines glossy. It is a transcendental live album that is the most promising candidate for the best masterpiece even on a co-starring tour with Johnny Depp.
