The JEFF BECK GROUP, a famous record popularly known as the “Orange Album”. The “back daimyo board”, which is a modified version of that version, will be reprinted and released.
The true identity of this work is the 4-channel master reel of “JEFF BECK GROUP”. In addition to recording all the album songs from the original reel, tracks that reproduce the front and rear channel sounds completely separately are also recorded individually. It is a two-disc set with even more delicious sound board live.
The dreadfulness of this work is the number of extremely rare takes, but the sound quality is unprecedented. Far from being completely free of needle cracks and hiss noises, high sound quality with a level of super that is impossible with record drops. There were also masterpieces with similar concepts “ROUGH AND READY REEL MASTERS” and “BLOW BY BLOW 8 TRACK QUADRAPHONIC TAPE”, but the sound quality of this work surpasses even that masterpiece group. Since the original release in 2002, recurrence has been planned many times, and remastering with the latest equipment has been attempted each time, but it still cannot surpass the original. It’s easy to make another version with a slightly different nuance, but the crude production is not our intention, and it continues to be reissued with the original sound. It is also a high-quality album that stands in such a dimension.
Now, the content of this work is roughly divided into three parts. Let’s keep things simple first.
[B: Separate tracks for rear/front channels] (DISC 1 second half 10 takes) / DISC 2 first half 11 takes)
The second is a take in which the 4-channel mix is played separately for each channel, such as rear and front. Details will be described later, but this is the main sound source that is extremely rare among extremely rare and is also the biggest listening station of this work.
[C: 2 types of SBD live (7 songs in the latter half of DISC 2)] At the end, two JBG#2 soundboard live performances recorded as bonus tracks. Among the JBG#2 soundboards, which have only a few types, it is a decisive one along with the BBC broadcast “POP SPECTACULAR”, and the sound quality is as impregnable as the main part. In particular, “1971 Helsinki Performance” is a masterpiece among the famous performances, where Jeff is also dull and dull, and is often called “JBG # 2’s best live performance”.

A take with no bass and mostly just the main melody of the guitar and the drums. Normally, these parts and takes are not interesting or anything, but the geniuses Jeff Beck and Cozy Powell are playing here. Because I can listen to the sympathy of the subtleties and sensibility vividly, it is ridiculously moving.
●DISC 1: 11.I Got To Have A Song
This is without drums, and there is no main vocal. It is a very interesting take with only guitar and female chorus. At that time, the sound that was drawn in Jeff’s mind, which was influenced by Motown, emerges realistically.
●DISC 1: 12.Sugar Cane #1
Takes without drum hi-hats and rim shots. For that reason, the very simple and basic groove is direct. After this, the delicate side of Cozy, who sells power in the HR field, is fully open.
●DISC 1: 13. Ice Cream Cakes #1
A valuable take where you can only listen to the guitar. It is a masterpiece take that will take your breath away with the good sense of it, such as “I was playing such an obbligato”.
●DISC 1: 14. Glad All Over #1
“It’s not as loud as this take, but the bass volume is a little low.”
●DISC 1: 15. Highways #1
There is no lead or solo, only backing guitar. It is a transcendental take where the backing skill explodes and you can experience a number of exquisite phrases realistically. It’s hard to put into words now, but Jeff is truly a genius.
●DISC 1: 16. Tonight I’ll Be Staying With You
This time it’s an interesting take with only the main melody guitar and backing vocals. Jeff’s melodious sense comes to the fore.
●DISC 1: 17-19. Going Down #1-3
Take 1 where the bass sounds vivid without drums, Take 2 with only drums and backing chorus, and Take 3 with drums and handclaps. In Take 1, Clive’s base nuances are clearly understood, and it is surprising that the grains of running are not complete. These variations in phrases also led to a rich groove. Takes 2 and 3 are like drum solos, a must-listen for Cozy fans! Delicate drumming that is completely different from RAINBOW, which emphasizes power, is too cool!!
◆DISC 2: 1-4. Definitely Maybe #1-4
4 takes of a famous song that makes Jeff cry. Take 1 where obbligato emerges vividly without drums, take 2 where the main melody and bass of the gem are crying vividly, take 3 where only Jeff and Cozy resound in a quiet studio, genius trio of Jeff, Cozy and Middleton with plenty of atmosphere. Take 4 to play in. Both versions spotlight Jeff’s guitar, and it’s a gem of a time when super-famous performances show various expressions.
DISC 2: 5. I Can’t Give Back The Love For You #2
A full guitar track and a bass-only take. The rich entanglement of the string corps is vivid to the ear.

Take 2 is centered on drums, percussion and vocals, while take 3 is only rhythm guitar and drums. The drum pattern is completely different from the regular version, and it has a simple shuffle beat. This is a surprise!

Take 2 with guitar solo only and Take 3 with backing guitar only. The sharpness of this cutting! As expected, it’s skillful!! Superb take of a superb masterpiece!!!

A separate mix ends with a light take of only Rhodes piano and wah guitar.
The above is a treasure trove of studio recordings spanning 2 hours, 32 minutes and 44 seconds. From another mix of the famous album to the definitive live performance, and a super rare separate, it is a 2-disc set packed with all the charms of JBG#2. そんな本作の正体とは『JEFF BECK GROUP』の４チャンネル・マスター・リール。大元リールからアルバム全曲を収録しているだけでなく、フロントとリアのチャンネル音を完全セパレートで再生したトラックも個別に収録。さらに美味しいサウンドボード・ライヴまで追加した２枚組なのです。
本作の凄みは、激レアなテイクの数々なわけですが、さらに音の良さも空前絶後。針パチ・ヒスノイズの類が一切ないどころか、レコード落としでは不可能なレベルの超が付く高音質。似たコンセプトの名作『ROUGH AND READY REEL MASTERS』『BLOW BY BLOW 8 TRACK QUADRAPHONIC TAPE』もありましたが、本作の音の良さは、あの名作群さえ凌駕しています。2002年のオリジナル・リリース以来、幾度となく再発が計画され、その度に最新機材でのリマスターも試みられてきましたが、未だにオリジナルを超えられない。多少ニュアンスが違うだけの別バージョンを作るのはカンタンですが、粗製濫造は当店の本意ではなく、あえてオリジナル通りのサウンドで再発され続けている。そんな次元に立つ高音質アルバムでもあるのです。
さて、そんな本作の内容は大きく分けて３つのパートに分かれています。まずは簡単に整理しておきましょう。
【Ａ：４チェンネル版『JEFF BECK GROUP』（DISC 1前半９曲）】
冒頭は肝心要の４チャンネル・ミックス全曲。一部にオリジナル・アルバムとはテイクが違っており、特に「I Can’t Give Back The Love For You」「I Got To Have A Song」「Definitely Maybe」のギターは鮮烈です。
【Ｂ：リア／フロント・チャンネルのセパレート・トラック】
（DISC 1後半10テイク）／DISC 2前半11テイク）
２つめは、その４チャンネル・ミックスをリア・フロントなど、チャンネルごとに分離再生したテイクです。詳しくは後述しますが、これこそ激レア中の激レアであり、本作最大の聴き所でもあるメイン音源です。
【Ｃ：SBDライヴ２種（DISC 2後半７曲）】
最後はボーナス・トラックとして収録されたJBG#2のサウンドボード・ライヴを２種。わずか数種しかないJBG#2のサウンドボードの中でも、BBC放送の「POP SPECTACULAR」と並ぶ決定的なもので、音質は本編にも負けない鉄壁サウンド。特に「1971年ヘルシンキ公演」はジェフも冴えに冴えまくっており、「JBG#2のベスト・ライヴ」との呼び声も高い名演中の名演です。
……と、このようになっています。それぞれに語りだしたらキリがない決定音源ばかりではありますが、特に説明が必要なのは「Ｂ：リア／フロント・チャンネルのセパレート・トラック」でしょう。それでは早速、詳細に特徴と聴きどころをご紹介致しましょう。
●DISC 1: 10. I Can’t Give Back The Love For You #1
ベース・レスでほとんどがギターの主旋律とドラムのみというテイク。普通、こういったパーツ・テイクは面白くも何ともないのですが、ここで鳴らしているのは、天才ジェフ・ベックとコージー・パウエル。その機微と感性の交感がビビッドに聴けるのですから、とんでもなく感動的です。
●DISC 1: 11. I Got To Have A Song
こちらはドラム・レスで、メインのボーカルもなし。ギターと女声コーラスのみという非常に面白いテイクです。当時、モータウンに影響されていたというジェフの脳裏に描かれていたサウンドがリアルに浮かび上がります。
●DISC 1: 12. Sugar Cane #1
ドラムのハイハット、リム・ショットが入っていないテイク。その分、非常にシンプルで基本のグルーヴがダイレクト。この後、HR畑でパワーを売りにするコージーの繊細な一面が全開です。
●DISC 1: 13. Ice Cream Cakes #1
ギターのみが聴ける貴重なテイク。「こんなオブリガードを演っていたんだ」などなど、さすがのセンスの良さに息を飲む傑作テイクです。
●DISC 1: 14. Glad All Over #1
本テイクと大きくは違いませんが、ベースの音量が小さめ。
●DISC 1: 15. Highways #1
リードやソロがなく、バッキング・ギターのみ。バッキング巧者ぶりが炸裂し、これまた絶妙なフレーズの数々をリアルに体感できる超絶テイクです。今さら言葉にするのもはばかれますが、ジェフは本当に天才ですね。
●DISC 1: 16. Tonight I’ll Be Staying With You
今度は一転、主旋律のギターとバック・ボーカルのみという面白いテイク。ジェフのメロディアスなセンスが前面に出てきます。
●DISC 1: 17-19. Going Down #1-3
ドラム・レスでベースが生々しく聴こえるテイク１、ドラムとバック・コーラスのみのテイク２、ドラム＆手拍子のテイク３。テイク１は、クライヴのベースニュアンスが克明に分かり、ランニングの粒が揃っていないのが意外。こうしたフレーズのバラつきが豊かなグルーヴにもつながっていたわけですね。テイク２・３はまるでドラムソロで、コージーファン必聴！ パワー重視なRAINBOW以降とはまるで違う繊細なドラミング、かっこよすぎ!!
◆DISC 2: 1-4. Definitely Maybe #1-4
ジェフが泣きに泣く名曲を４テイク。ドラムレスでオブリガードが鮮烈に浮かび上がるテイク１、珠玉の主旋律とベースが生々しく泣きじゃくるテイク２、静寂のスタジオにジェフとコージーだけが鳴り響くテイク３、雰囲気たっぷりにジェフ、コージー、ミドルトンの天才トリオで演奏するテイク４。いずれのバージョンもジェフのギターにスポットが当たり、超名演が様々な表情を見せていく珠玉のひとときです。

ギターの全トラックと、ベースのみのテイク。ストリングス隊の豊かな絡みが耳に鮮烈です。

テイク２はドラム＆パーカッションとヴォーカルが中心で、テイク３はリズム・ギターとドラムのみ。正規盤とはドラム・パターンがまるで違い、シンプルなシャッフル・ビートになっています。これは驚き！

これは正規盤とほぼ同じ。

ギター・ソロだけのテイク２とバッキング・ギターだけのテイク３。このカッティングのキレの良さ！ やはり巧い!! 絶品逸品の超絶テイク!!!

The main press 2CD is a masterpiece of the back world where you can enjoy the new appearance of the official studio work. As a bonus to celebrate the reprint release, we have prepared a video work that will be a symbol of the 2nd JEFF BECK GROUP that exceeds even the official album.
The identity of this work is a professional shot of the famous program “BEAT CLUB” shot on “March 25, 1972”. It is the longest and highest peak version. Speaking of JBG #2’s pro shot, the official beat club “Definitely Maybe” is famous … or rather, there was only one song for a long time. However, in 2010, a long version with five additional songs appeared without warning. Beck fans all over the world … No, it gave a shock to all music fans who love classic rock images.
This work contains such legendary professional shots. The beat club broadcast that has been popular for many years used psychedelic image processing and multi-camera image synthesis, but this work seems to be before the editing stage. The blue background and the azure floor, which are based on the premise of synthesis processing, are also vivid studio live performances. Even with “Definitely Maybe”, unlike the version at that time, there is no psychedelic image processing at all (there is a little processing to cut out and overlap Jeff).
“The quality was also shocking.” It is natural that it is beautiful because it has the three conditions of “beat club recording, pre-editing master, and digital release in recent years”, but even so, the vivid & ultra-clear visual beauty is dazzling. Although there is a peculiarity of the blue back, you can witness the extremely valuable “moving JBG # 2” with completely official-grade image quality and sound quality.
“And what’s inside is the real shock.” Cozy Powell / Max Middleton / Clive Chairman / Bob Tench spin rock while exchanging eye contact with each other, not to mention 27-year-old Jeff who is sharp and sharp. Cozy is especially amazing. In JBG#2, he was before reaching the “dynamic supremacy” after RAINBOW, and boasted career-high meticulousness in both hands and techniques. The dreadfulness and singing heart can be fully tasted in this work, but when you look at the live video in this way, Cozy is still Cozy. A strong dynamism that could not be understood only by records blows out, and the weight of each stroke and the power of repeated blows are close even in the RAINBOW era.
I’m also happy with the vocalist Bob Tench. After all, “Definitely Maybe”, which I have been watching for many years, is an instrumental. Although it was no different from the “JBG #2 video”, it was more like the “prototype of the instrumental era” later. However, the other five excavated songs are wonderfully sung, and sing with a unique singing voice that makes sweat shine black. The “perfect form” of that Motown-flavored sound world jumps into your eyes and ears. And then, on top of Max’s brilliant piano solo, the dynamism of “Going Down”, which rushes in with a full band feeling … what a wonderful thing.
A multi-camera pro shot of “JBG#2”, which is valuable even for a sound board. Moreover, it is a masterpiece video revived in the 21st century with superb quality that does not require excuses of the times. 本編プレス２CDは、公式スタジオ作品の新たなる姿を楽しめる裏世界の大名盤です。その復刻リリースを祝うボーナスには、公式アルバムさえ超える第２期JEFF BECK GROUPの象徴となる映像作品をご用意しました。
そんな本作の正体は「1972年３月25日」に撮影された名物番組“BEAT CLUB”出演プロショット。その最長・最高峰バージョンです。JBG#2のプロショットと言えば、オフィシャル化もされたビートクラブの「Definitely Maybe」が有名……というか、長らくその１曲しかありませんでした。ところが、2010年になってさらに５曲追加された長尺版が前触れもなく登場。全世界のベック・ファン……いえ、クラシック・ロック映像を愛するすべての音楽ファンにド級の衝撃を振りまいたのです。
そんな伝説のプロショットを収めたのが本作。長年親しまれてきたビートクラブ放送はサイケな画像処理やマルチカメラの画像合成も駆使されていましたが、本作はその編集段階前と思しきもの。合成処理を前提としたブルーバックと鶯色の床も鮮やかなスタジオ・ライヴです。「Definitely Maybe」にしても当時バージョンとは違い、サイケな画像処理が一切ありません（ジェフを切り抜いて重ねる処理は少し入っています）。
また、そのクオリティも衝撃でした。「ビートクラブ収録・編集前マスター・近年デジタル公開」という３条件が揃っているのですから美しいのも当たり前なのですが、それにしてもビビッド＆超・克明な映像美が目に眩しい。ブルーバックの特殊さはあるものの、完全オフィシャル級の画質・音質で貴重極まる“動くJBG#2”を目の当たりにできるのです。
そして、その中身こそが本当の衝撃。キレにキレまくる27歳のジェフはもちろんのこと、コージー・パウエル／マックス・ミドルトン／クライヴ・チェアマン／ボブ・テンチが互いにアイコンタクトを交わしながらロックを紡ぐ光景。特に凄いのはコージー。JBG#2での彼はRAINBOW以降の“ダイナミック至上主義”に至る前であり、手数もテクニックもキャリアハイの細やかさを誇っていた。その凄味・歌心は本作でもタップリ味わえるわけですが、こうしてライヴ映像で観てみると、やはりコージーはコージー。レコードだけでは分からなかった強烈なダイナミズムが吹き出し、１打１打の重さ、連打の迫力はRAINBOW時代にも肉薄するのです。
さらに、ヴォーカルのボブ・テンチも嬉しい。何しろ、長年見続けてきた「Definitely Maybe」はインスト。“JBG#2の映像”には違いなかったとは言え、どちらかと言うと後の“インスト時代の原型”という感じでした。ところが、発掘された他５曲はものの見事に歌入りで、独特の歌声で汗を黒光りさせる熱唱。あのモータウン風味な音世界の“完全形”が眼に、耳に、飛び込んでくるのです。そして、鮮やかなマックスのピアノソロに乗せ、バンド感全開で突入する「Going Down」の躍動……何と、何と素晴らしい。
