In 2010, Jeff Beck came to Japan for the second consecutive year with his first new album in seven years, “EMOTION & COMMOTION.” A superb live album that allows you to experience the scene is now available.
“April 8, 2010: Amagasaki Archaic Hall performance” is imbued in this work. It is the transcendental audience recording. In our shop, we have archived Jeff’s career in total, and we have introduced a number of masterpiece albums in Japan in 2010. It’s also a good opportunity, so let’s organize the collection by schedule first.
・April 5th: Chukyo University Cultural Civic Center
・ April 7: Grand Cube Osaka
・April 8: Archaic Hall ← This work
・April 10 “DEEP EMOTION (JCB Hall)”
・April 12: Tokyo International Forum
・April 13 “TOKYO 2010 FINAL NIGHT”
* Note: Only representative recordings on each day.
A total of 6 performances. Until now, it was only the Tokyo performance in the latter half of the tour, but this work was the Amagasaki performance in the first half. The biggest point of this work that vacuum-packed such a show is the superb sound with “super”. Anyway, the sound is too good to be overwhelmed. A direct feeling with a completely zero distance, a thick core, ultra-clear details, a cleanly separated separate feeling … It’s like a “sound board”, but I don’t feel like the sound is transmitted. The strong presence of each note, the lustrous velvet-like plumpness, the vividness of the contours that never mix even when harsh phrases overlap, the subtle but sure to the extent that you can understand if you listen to it microscopically. The ringing that creates beauty.
In “Hammerhead”, it’s interesting to unravel the ensemble as it burns violently, and in “Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers”, the sweetness of the tone of one note melts your soul. The more I listen to it, the more I realize what it means to have a “good sound” and realize that there is still much more to it. It’s a world of beautiful sounds that make your chest tighten and squeeze your breath out of your lungs.
I couldn’t help but feel sentimental, but it’s also because the show was amazing, just because of the good sound. As a matter of fact, the German performance two weeks after this work is left as the official work “LIVE AND EXCLUSIVE FROM THE GRAMMY MUSEUM”, which is the same as the members of this work. However, while the official work was a mini album of only 8 songs and about 32 minutes, this work is also a full live album that lasts about 1 hour and 40 minutes. While comparing, let’s realize the number of songs volume that greatly exceeds the official work.
●After the 90’s (12 songs)
・Emotion and Commotion: Corpus Chisti Carol/Hammerhead/Never Alone (★)/Over the Rainbow/Nessun Dorma
・Who Else! :Blast From the East(★)/Angel (Footsteps)(★)/Brush With The Blues
・You Had It Coming: Rollin’ and Tumblin’ (★) / Dirty Mind (★)
・Other: Mna Na Heireann (★) / I Want To Take You Higher (★)
● Others (8 songs)
・Classics: Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers (★)/Led Boots (★)/People Get Ready/Big Block (★)
・ Other covers: Eternity’s Breath (★: MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA) / Stratus (★: Billy Cobham) / A Day In The Life (THE BEATLES) / How High The Moon (Morgan Lewis)
… and it looks like this. It’s already full of “★” marks and I don’t know what it is, but that’s what it should be. You can enjoy a repertoire of 12 more songs, including all 8 songs that you heard in the official work. The 5 songs “EMOTION & COMMOTION” are the axis, but also “Mna Na Heireann” played in Sharon Corr’s “DREAM OF YOU” and Sly Stone’s “I’M BACK! FAMILY & FRIENDS”. Topical songs of the time, such as “I Want To Take You Higher”, are also scattered.
The Japanese version of the official work “LIVE AND EXCLUSIVE FROM THE GRAMMY MUSEUM”… No, that’s not enough. It is a beautiful sound that exceeds the official work, and it is packed with more than twice as many famous songs. It is a memorable album for us Japanese, but more than that, it is a music heritage album from Japan that we are proud of all over the world. Please enjoy it to the fullest.
★ “April 8, 2010: Amagasaki Archaic Hall Performance” superlative audience recording. ★★Isn’t Jeff’s boot the best sound? “This is amazing.”
