当時からこのショウの録音はありましたが、どれも音質の厳しいものばかりでした。その状況を一変させたのがCrazy S.氏が録音し、2002年にLANGLEYレーベルからリリースされた「”Don’t Fuckin’ Kill Each Other”」だったのです。あまりにクリアなサウンド＆ノーカット収録に、世界中のマニアが震撼。「スーパー・テーパー“Crazy.S”ここにあり！」を世界に轟かせ、その快進撃の始まりとなった記念すべき１枚でもありました。実際、Crazy.S氏の録音を大量に知っている現在の耳で聴いても、本作のサウンドは驚異的。Crazy.S氏は、この日のトリを飾ったIRON MAIDENも録音しており、その音源とサウンドボード音源を使用した「MONSTERS OF ROCK 1988: 25th Anniversary Edition」では「サウンドボード音源と混ざっても違和感がない！」と賞賛を集めました。ところが、本作はそのIRON MAIDEN編をも上回っているのです！
そんな名人Crazy.Sコレクションの中でも凄まじい高音質の１本に、最新のデジタル・リマスターを施し、さらに磨きをかけたのが本作なのです。元音源は、常に高音質なのは変わらないまでも、サウンドのニュアンスが目まぐるしく変化していました。しかし、本作では低域から中域にかけての過剰なポイントを調整し、各楽器の分離感を向上しているのです。例えば「It’s So Easy」を聴いていただければ、突出していた高音がナチュラルになり、非常に聴きやすくなっているのに気づいていただけるでしょう。

そして、本作が“特別中の特別”たるゆえんは、やはりライヴの中身です。「Paradise City」のPVでも脈打つ海原のようなドニントンの大観衆が観られますが、まさにあれこそが本作の現場。オープニングから異様な雰囲気が漂うなか、１曲目の「It’s So Easy」が始まる。そう、この１曲こそ、まさに２名が圧死した瞬間なのです。異様な盛り上がりとは、まさか演奏中に死者が出たことなど気づくはずもなく、２曲目に突入。しかし、ここでバンドも「こりゃ、ヤバいよ……」と感じたのか、次の曲に移れなくなってしまう。アクセル・ローズもスラッシュも観客に落ち着くよう呼びかけ、「おい、下がれ、下がれ！」「落ち着けって！」「殺しあうんじゃない！」「出ていけよ！」などなど、鬼気迫るMCの数々がウルトラ・クリアに聞こえるのです（本当にCrazy.S氏が無事でよかった……）。
そんなMCを所々に挟みながらも、演奏は実に素晴らしい。危険を感じながらも、世界を席巻しているGUNS N’ ROSESの凄味が抑えようとしても溢れてくるのです。もし突然ステージを降りようものならそれこそ暴動になるのでしょうが、だからと言ってこんなライヴを聴かせながら「落ち着け」と言われても無理かもしれない……。そんな観客を静めるため、この日は急遽セットリストを組み替えたと言われており、本来ならアップに畳み掛けるであろう終盤でもスローな「Patience」「Sweet Child O’ Mine」を持ってきています。まるで鎮魂歌のように聴こえる「Sweet Child O’ Mine」のラストには、皮肉とも自棄ともつかない「Great fuckin’ day!!」の言葉を残し、本作は幕を閉じます。
死者を出してしまった“MONSTERS OF ROCK”は、翌1989年には史上初の中止となり、GUNS N’ ROSESが再び聖地ドニントンに立つのは、18年後の2006年でした。この後も数々の逸話を生んでいくGUNS N’ ROSESですが、その中でも本作に封入された46分間は超ド級の大事件。誰もが望まなかった悲劇、その一部始終をこれ以上ないほどクリアでリアルなスーパー・サウンドで真空パックした１枚です。ライヴ・アルバム？　いいえ、これは貴方の棚を歴史の記録庫に変えるドキュメント・アルバムです。
