In the early 90’s, GUNS N’ ROSES achieved a 1st or 2nd place on each country’s charts with “USE YOUR ILLUSION I/II” and showed off the biggest monster in rock history. A new masterpiece that allows you to experience the scene in the highest quality is now available.
What is inscribed in this work is “Rotterdam performance on June 23, 1992”. This is a powerful audience recording. Speaking of “USE YOUR ILLUSION Tour”, it was the height of the monster GUNS N’ ROSES, and it was a monster tour that captivated the whole world for two and a half years. The members and the significance of the series have changed over time, so let’s take a look at the whole picture and confirm the position of this work.

This is GUNS N’ ROSES from 1991 to 1993… or rather, they resumed their activities in 2001, so you could almost call them “GUNS of the 90s.” The Rotterdam performance of this work was the 16th concert of “Europe #2”, which is in the middle.
This show has long been known for its famous recordings, but this work is a new master that was recently discovered. It is a masterpiece that was digitized from the original cassette of the famous master “Stephane”. Mr. Stephane is the one who is currently attracting the attention of HR/HM collectors. He is a recording artist who was active from the late 80’s to the early 90’s, and has released a large amount of his original masters. Our store has released numerous recordings, including IRON MAIDEN’s press masterpiece “DEFINITIVE PARIS 1993 (Zodiac 469)”, as well as SCORPIONS, MOTLEY CRUE, BON JOVI, WHITESNAKE, QUEENSRYCHE, and others. It is a tremendous collection, all of which are masterpieces that represent the tour. This work is GUNS N’ ROSES by such a master. I thought that GUNS would also be recording at the time, but it really came out…
This long-awaited work will not disappoint. As expected, it is a stadium with a capacity of 50,000 people, so it is not so close that you can mistake it for a sound board, but it is not far off. The core that penetrates the transparent space is strong, with clear details and outlines. Although I was able to absorb the sound of the hall, the atmosphere felt somehow “dry.” It’s not a warm, moist sound, but a crisp, crisp sound. Moreover, this work is the highest peak updated version of such a famous recording. The original sound itself is full of the freshness of the original cassette, but as a musical work, the treble extension was lacking. Therefore, in this work, we analyzed each band and adjusted the balance. This results in a clearer sound.
What’s more, the enthusiasm on the scene is real. They only performed once in the Netherlands in 1987, right after their debut, and this is their second time together. GUNS N’ ROSES, which has returned for the first time in five years, has become unbelievably huge, and the stadium is packed with audiences from all over Europe (Stephane is also a recording artist who usually works in Paris). The huge chorus and cheers were huge, making it a tremendous spectacle. Although the performance sound does not take the leading role, you can fully enjoy the feeling of the scene only at its peak.
And, the key is to have a full show that brings out such enthusiasm. Let’s organize the set here.

…and it looks like this. There is a long list of masterpieces and representative songs that are still played today, but “Double Talkin’ Jive” is a number that has been sealed for 23 years, and “Bad Obsession” has been sealed for 30 years. It was a song that was revived because of the combination of thrash and dub, and it was also a symbol of the 90s.
Also, the MC of this work is also interesting. It seems that Axl felt bad about his throat at the Swiss show the previous day, so he received treatment before the show that day. Apparently that’s why he was late. However, due to the delay in opening the park, Dutch police notified them that the power would be cut off at 11:30. No matter how you look at it, the accelerator is the culprit, but I end up saying, “If the power really goes out, you can be as violent as you want, because it’s the Dutch police’s fault!” However, the power did not actually turn off, and the accelerator was smooth. The show was very exciting, and Axl also thanked the audience for “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” at the end. “You guys had a better voice than 140,000 ROCK IN RIO!” he said.
Truly at its peak. This is the climax. This is a glorious live album that brings out that kind of mood from the speakers. A signature item that has the scent of the Golden Age reprinted from the original cassette of the master collection. Please inhale to your heart’s content.

これが1991年ー1993年のGUNS N’ ROSES……と言いますか、次に活動を再開するのは2001年ですから、ほぼ「90年代のGUNS」と言ってもいいでしょう。本作のロッテルダム公演は、そのド真ん中にあたる「欧州#2」の16公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
このショウは以前から名録音が残された事でも知られてきましたが、本作は最近になって発掘された新マスター。話題の名手「Stephane」氏の大元カセットからデジタル化された銘品なのです。このStephane」氏こそ、現在HR/HM系コレクターの注目を独り占めしている人物。80年代末期から90年代初頭にかけて活動していた録音家で、その大元マスターを大量に公開している。当店でもIRON MAIDENのプレス名盤『DEFINITIVE PARIS 1993（Zodiac 469）』を筆頭にSCORPIONSやMOTLEY CRUE、BON JOVI、WHITESNAKE、QUEENSRYCHE等々、幾多の録音をリリース。そのすべてがツアーを代表する名作ばかりという凄まじいコレクションなのです。本作は、そんな名手によるGUNS N’ ROSES。時代的にGUNSも録音しているだろうとは思っていましたが、本当に出てきたのです……。
そんな待望の本作は、期待を裏切らない業物。さすがに５万人収容のスタジアムだけあってサウンドボードと間違えるようなド密着感ではありませんが、かと言って遠くもない。透き通った空間を貫く芯は力強く、ディテールも輪郭もくっきり。ホール鳴りも吸い込んではいるのですが、その空気感がなんと申しますか「乾いて」いるように感じる。ウォームでしっとりとした鳴りではなく、カラッとしていてキリッと端麗なのです。しかも、本作はそんな名録音の最高峰更新盤。原音自体が大元カセットの瑞々しさに溢れているわけですが、音楽作品的には高音の伸びが今ひとつ詰まってもいた。そこで本作では帯域毎に分析した上でバランスを調整。よりヌケの良いサウンドを実現しているのです。
さらに言えば、現場の熱狂がリアル。オランダではデビュー直後の1987年に１回ライヴをやっただけで、本作は２回目。５年ぶりに戻ってきたGUNS N’ ROSESは見違えるほど巨大になっており、欧州各地から押し寄せた観客でスタジアムもパンパン（Stephane氏も普段はパリで活動している録音家です）。その大合唱や声援が巨大で、もの凄いスペクタクル。あくまで演奏音が主役の座を譲らないものの、絶頂時代だけの現場感もたっぷりと味わえるのです。
そして、そんな熱狂を弾き出す全盛のフルショウこそが肝心。ここでそのセットも整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。今でも演奏される名曲・代表曲がズラリと並んでいますが、「Double Talkin’ Jive」はその後23年、「Bad Obsession」は30年も封印されていたナンバー。スラッシュやダブが揃ったからこそ復活した曲であり、90年代の象徴でもあったわけです。
また、本作はMCも面白い。どうやらアクセルは１つ前のスイス公演でノドに不調を感じたらしく、この日はショウの前に治療。そのせいで遅刻したそうです。ところが開園が遅れたことでオランダ警察が「11時半に電源を切る」と通告。どう考えてもアクセルが原因なのですが、「もし本当に電源が落ちたら、好きなだけ暴れてくれ。オランダ警察のせいなんだからな！」と言ってしまうのです。もっとも実際に電源が落とされる事態にならず、アクセルも快調。ショウも大いに盛り上がり、終盤の「Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door」ではアクセルも観客に感謝。「おまえら、14万人のROCK IN RIOよりスゲェ声だったぜ！」と語っています。
まさに全盛。これぞ絶頂。そんなムードがスピーカーから吹き出すグロリアスなライヴアルバムです。黄金時代の薫りを名手コレクションの大元カセットから復刻させた銘品。どうぞ、胸いっぱいに吸い込んでください。
