This show is also known to have been broadcast on FM, and a number of existing groups have been born. It has reigned as a major staple among the classics that symbolize their first visit to Japan. This work is one of the inscriptions created by the best master of such a historic FM sound board.
Actually, the sound of this work can only be called “completely official class”. If the sound quality and mix are perfect, the reception status and recording status are excellent. Originally, it should be compared with the topical work “LIGHTNIN’IN A BOTTLE” that was just released the other day, but this one has too little cover because of the “OPEN ALL NIGHT” era. The repertoire is completely different except for the 5 songs “Battleship Chains”, “Nights of Mystery”, “Can’t Stand the Pain”, “Keep Your Hands to Yourself” and “Shake, Rattle and Roll”. I avoided it because it was full of “★” marks.
In addition to such masterpieces, DJ is the highlight of this work. There is a female voice narration of the program personality at the beginning of the program, three places between songs, and the ending, which is really wonderful. It’s not just about creating a sense of the times, but the content is super detailed. Beginning in the early days of repeated member changes and in the era of laying down until debut, the undercard tour until coming to Japan, the headliner tour scheduled after leaving Japan, member introduction, and the time when the radio station was embarking on band excavation US situation etc. Even if you don’t know one song, you can easily put in THE GEORGIA SATELLITES, and even if you don’t become a fan as a result, you will be admired by the real Western music situation of the 1980s. ……と、このようになっています。本来であれば、先日リリースされたばかりの話題作『LIGHTNIN’ IN A BOTTLE』と比較すべきなのかも知れませんが、こちらは『OPEN ALL NIGHT』時代のために被りがあまりにも少ない。実に５曲「Battleship Chains」「Nights of Mystery」「Can’t Stand the Pain」「Keep Your Hands to Yourself」「Shake, Rattle and Roll」以外は全部違うレパートリー。「★」印だらけになるので避けたくらいです。
また、そんな名曲群に加えて本作の聴きどころになっているのがDJ。番組冒頭や曲間３ヶ所、さらにエンディングで番組パーソナリティの女声ナレーションが入るのですが、これが実に素晴らしい。単に時代感を醸すだけではなく、内容が超詳しい。メンバーチェンジを繰り返した黎明期やデビューまでの下積み時代に始まり、日本に来るまでの前座ツアーや離日後に予定されているヘッドライナー・ツアー、メンバー紹介、ラジオ局がバンド発掘に乗り出していた当時の米国事情などなど。仮にTHE GEORGIA SATELLITESを１曲を知らない方でもすんなりと入れますし、結果としてファンにならなかったとしても80年代のリアルな洋楽事情に「ほほぉ……」と感嘆してしまう。演奏に被せてくるのはラストの「Shake, Rattle and Roll」だけという配慮も心地よく、本作の価値を何倍にもハネ上げてくれる名ナレーションなのです。
