GENESIS recording, which was also the lifework of absolute master Mike Millard. The latest excavation album that has been unreleased so far is now available.
“Performance in San Diego on April 15, 1978” is imbued in this work. It is a superb audience recording recorded in one act of “AND THEN THERE WERE THREE Tour”. Speaking of 1978, the legendary first visit to Japan was also realized. At our shop, we have archived GENESIS, which became three people, with numerous masterpieces. It’s also a good opportunity, so let’s take a bird’s eye view of the tour with representative works from each leg.

・ March 26-April 22: North America #1 (18 performances) ← Coco
・ May 14-June 24: Europe # 1 (26 performances) ← * DIJON 1978 RAW MASTER and others
・ July 3-31: North America # 2 (20 performances) ← * MILWAUKEE MASTER 1978 etc.
・ August 20-September 9: Europe #2 (10 performances)
・September 29-October 22: North America #3 (17 performances) ← * DEFINITIVE CHICAGO and others
・November 27-December 3: First visit to Japan (6 performances) ← * TOKYO 1978 2ND NIGHT etc.
*Note: Each leg is representative work only.

This is the 1978 GENESIS. The San Diego performance of this work was “North America # 1”, which is the early stage among them. As you may have noticed if you are an avid collector, this “North America # 1” has also introduced Millard’s masterpiece “L.A. FORUM 1978 (Amity 628)” and the soundboard album “BLOOMINGTON SOUNDBOARD (Amity 140)”. In addition, let’s focus on the schedule and check the positional relationship of each.

・ March 28-31 (4 performances)
《“…AND THEN THERE WERE THREE…” will be released on March 31》
・ April 1-8 (8 performances)
・ April 9 “BLOOMINGTON SOUNDBOARD”
・ April 10th + 14th (2 performances)
・April 15th: San Diego performance ← This work
・April 17 “L.A. FORUM 1978”
・ April 22: Montreal performance

… and it looks like this. “… AND THEN THERE WERE THREE…” was released during “North America # 1”, and this work will be the 16th performance two weeks later. It was the concert before the Millard sisters work “L.A. FORUM 1978”.
This work, vacuum-packed from such a show, is a completely new excavation of surprises. Most of Millard’s excavation projects are “the origin of famous sound sources”, but this work is different. The master is not a new excavation, but a treasure whose recording existence was not known until now. Moreover, the sound is also amazing. Since it is a mirrored recording, it may be amazing and natural, but it is strange that it has not been distributed until now.
As a matter of fact, “JEMS”, the source of the excavation, seems to favor “L.A. FORUM 1978”, but I would like to (strongly) object to that. Certainly, “L.A. FORUM 1978” feels closer to the direct feeling of the core, but the sound image is somewhat rough and the hall sound is thick at the same time. Above all, it was also a recording that felt “pressure” in the enthusiasm of nearby customers. On the other hand, this work is elegant and beautiful. The balance between the core and the ringing is wonderful, and the ringing itself is beautiful. Moreover, the atmosphere itself is transparent, and the details can be tasted properly. Certainly, “L.A. FORUM 1978” will win in one point of “core rush power”. However, the vividness of the performance, the feeling of pouring down peculiar to symphonic rock, the balance of the entire ensemble, the lack of audience noise … this work is beautiful and easy to listen to at every point.
It is precisely because of the early stages of the tour that the full show is depicted with such a beautiful sound. As expected, it is the same set as “L.A. FORUM 1978” only for the neighboring shows, but it is a longer complete recording than “BLOOMINGTON SOUNDBOARD” with cuts. Let’s organize the set while comparing at the end.

●And 3 people remained (5 songs)
・Burning Rope/Deep In The Motherlode/Say It’s Alright Joe/The Lady Lies/Follow You Follow Me
● Classics (12 songs + α)
・ Five people era: The Fountain Of Salmacis / The Cinema Show / I Know What I Like (★) / In The Cage
・4-person era: Ripples/Squonk/Dance On A Volcano (★)/Los Endos (★)/Eleventh Earl Of Mar/One For The Vine (★)/Afterglow/Down And Out/Drum Duet (★)
* Note: “★” marks are songs that could not be heard on “BLOOMINGTON SOUNDBOARD”.

“I feel uncomfortable arguing against a prestigious excavation site, but this time I would like to assert that I am dogmatic and prejudiced.” This work is the masterpiece of “North America # 1”. “Enjoying live performance with good sound” is the right way of a live album, and if you stick to “how close to a sound board”, it is putting the cart before the horse. With such a superb sound of beauty, you can experience a full show that you have never heard before. This work is a “new masterpiece” that shines like a glittering star, which is the ultimate in the real pleasure of audience recording. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.

★ Superb audience recording of “April 15, 1978 San Diego performance”. Also a live album before Millard’s masterpiece “L.A. FORUM 1978”, an unreleased recording that was not known until now. Its sound is neater than its sister work. The balance between the core and the ringing is wonderful, and the ringing itself is beautiful. “AND THEN THERE WERE THREE Tour” It is the birth of a new masterpiece that updates the highest peak in the early stages.

「北米#1」の最中に『…AND THEN THERE WERE THREE…』

Burning Rope/Deep In The Motherlode/Say It’s Alright Joe/The Lady Lies/Follow You Follow Me
The Fountain Of Salmacis/The Cinema Show/I Know What I Like(★)/In The Cage
Ripples/Squonk/Dance On A Volcano(★)/Los Endos(★)/Eleventh Earl Of Mar/One For The Vine(★)/Afterglow/Down And Out/Drum Duet(★)

“AND THEN THERE WERE THREE Tour”序盤の最高峰を更新する新名盤の誕生です。
