In 2016, FOREIGNER was touring European festivals in front of a large-scale anniversary business, celebrating the 40th anniversary of its formation. The best video is here.
This work was filmed at “June 18, 2016 Clisson Performance”. France … No, it’s a multi-camera pro shot when I performed at the famous European festival “HELLFEST”. In 2016, the acoustic tour “THE HITS: UNPLUGGED” became a hot topic, while regular concerts were held to commemorate the 40th anniversary. In order to sort out the situation in that area, let’s first confirm the position of the show from the schedule at that time.

This is the 2016 FOREIGNER. “THE HITS: UNPLUGGED” was held for two weeks in the fall, but otherwise it was a regular electric show. The appearance of HELLFEST in this work was also the 6th performance of “Europe # 1” that was going around the summer festival in Europe.
This work is a DVD version of the distribution pro shot, but the quality is the latest even if the content is 5 years ago. In fact, HELLFEST has been forced to cancel in 2020/2011 due to the new Corona Pandemic, and will launch a major revival in 2022. Just recently, I started distributing the archive video that will be the trailer, and it has become a hot topic with extremely high quality and “higher image quality than at that time!”. This work is the most distributed version that is not a rebroadcast. Therefore, the image quality, sound quality, mix, etc. are superb quality that can only be called “completely official grade” from corner to corner.
It is the concentrated ultimate Greatest Hits that is drawn with such perfect / iron-walled visual beauty. I don’t know if it’s on-site time control or distribution frame, but in about 50 minutes, the deadly major songs are lined up in a row. Let’s organize the set here.

… And it looks like this. Eight songs are shown in the time of one LP, but this is not only a single hit for all songs, but also the ultimate selection in terms of data. Counting the number of times they have been performed live for many years, the first place is “Cold As Ice” and the second place is “Feels Like The First Time” …. And the performance of spinning the ultimate set is also wonderful. The 40th anniversary tour wasn’t until 2017, but the best compilation album “40” was already listed in the backdrop, and it was a big performance at a big festival where young spectators gathered. Kelly Hansen, who serves as the front desk, has already joined the club for 11 years, and is 55 years old. It’s not a level where the singing voice doesn’t feel strange, but it’s a rampage that goes down to the audience seats and gives a high five while drifting to the style of a big veteran like Steven Tyler. Far from being suitable for a gold sign, it shows off a hot stage that appeals to the younger generation.
Anyway, it is the “ultimate best compilation album that you can see with your eyes” with superb quality. A live set list is like a weapon that the band itself confronts the audience in front of them. It is the most realistic selection of songs with a different dimension from the best compilation album selected by the critics of the face and the staff of Reco who knows nothing. What’s more, the eight songs in this work are the ultimate eight songs that have been accumulated once and for all over the years. It is a video work that you can enjoy such an ultimate best with complete official quality. In the case of a large veteran band, it is often neglected to say “recent professional shots” or “standard best song selection”, but if you pursue the umami to the limit, it will be amazing. One piece that shows it clearly. Please enjoy it carefully.

★ Multi-camera pro shot of “June 18, 2016 HELLFEST”. 結成40周年を迎え、大規模なアニバーサリー事業を前に欧州フェスを巡っていた2016年のFOREIGNER。その極上映像が登場です。
そんな本作が撮影されたのは「2016年６月18日クリソン公演」。フランスの……いえ、ヨーロッパを代表する有名フェス“HELLFEST”に出演した際のマルチカメラ・プロショットです。2016年というと40周年の記念ムードが滲む通常コンサートも行われつつ、アコースティック・ツアー”THE HITS: UNPLUGGED”も話題ともなりました。その辺の事情を整理する意味でも、まずは当時のスケジュールからショウのポジションを確かめてみましょう。

これが2016年のFOREIGNER。”THE HITS: UNPLUGGED”は秋に２週間にわたって実施されましたが、それ以外は通常のエレクトリック・ショウ。本作のHELLFEST出演は、ヨーロッパの夏フェスを巡っていた「欧州#1」の６公演目にあたるコンサートでもありました。
本作はその配信プロショットをDVD化したものですが、内容は５年前であってもクオリティは最新。実のところ、HELLFESTは新型コロナ・パンデミックによって2020年／2011年と中止を余儀なくされており、2022年には大規模な復活をぶち上げる予定。つい最近、その予告編となるアーカイヴ映像を配信し始めたのですが、これが猛烈にハイクオリティで「当時よりも高画質！」と話題になっているのです。本作はその再放送ならぬ最配信版。ですから画質・音質・ミックス等々、隅から隅まで「完全オフィシャル級」と呼ぶしかない超極上クオリティなのです。
そんな完璧／鉄壁の映像美で描かれるのは、濃縮された究極グレイテスト・ヒッツ。現場の持ち時間か配信枠かは分かりませんが、約50分に必殺の大代表曲がズラリと並んでいるのです。ここでセットを整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。おおよそLP１枚分の時間で８曲を披露しているわけですが、これは全曲シングルヒットというだけでなく、データ上でも本当に究極セレクション。長年のライヴで演奏されてきた回数をカウントしてみると１位は「Cold As Ice」で２位は「Feels Like The First Time」で……となっており、上記がトップ８そのものなのです（ちなみに９位は「Dirty White Boy」で、10位でやっと「Waiting for a Girl Like You」が出てきます）。
そして、その究極セットを紡ぐパフォーマンスも素晴らしい。40周年の記念ツアーは2017年になってからでしたが、すでにベスト盤『40』がバックドロップに掲げられ、若い観客も集うビッグ・フェスで大熱演。フロントを務めるケリー・ハンセンもすでに加入から11年目となっており、実年齢でも55歳。歌声に違和感がないというレベルではなく、スティーヴン・タイラーのような大ベテランの風格まで漂わせつつ、客席まで降りて行ってハイタッチしまくる大暴れ。金看板に相応しいどころか、若い世代にも魅力を振りまく熱いステージを見せつけてくれるのです。
とにもかくにも超極上クオリティな「目で観る究極ベスト盤」です。ライヴのセットリストとは、バンド自身が目の前の観客と対峙する武器のようなもの。したり顔の評論家や何も知らないレコ社スタッフが選んだベスト盤とは次元が違う、最もリアルな肌感覚の選曲なのです。しかも、本作の８曲は長い年月の１回１回のステージを積み上げられてきた究極の８曲。そんな究極ベストを完全オフィシャル級クオリティで楽しめる映像作品なのです。大ベテランバンドの場合「最近のプロショット」「定番ベスト選曲」というと軽視されがちなのですが、その旨みも極限まで究めればココまで凄くなる。それをまざまざと見せつける１枚。どうぞ、じっくりとお楽しみください。
