当店にて4週連続リリースとなるエリック・クラプトンの先月の来日公演タイトル。プレス盤として最後に控えしは、やはり5日間の公演で最もクラプトンとバンドのプレイクオリティが高かったという評判の2日目、4月15日の極上マスターです！これで全5公演を選び抜かれた極上音質のマスターからリリースすることができ、当店も溜飲が下がる思いです。本盤のマスターは、実は今回の来日公演音源を超速リリースしていた中で、ドンと太っ腹ギフトアイテムとしてリリースした 「Budokan 2019: The 2nd Show」のマスターです。このギフトをリリースしました際には、「どうしてこんなに音質の良いソースがギフトなんですか？」という単純なお問い合わせをいただきました。当店としては、公演の興奮覚めやらぬうちにあの感動をお届けしたいという一心でリリースしたものでした。しかし同時に当店としては、「より保存性の高いプレス盤で全公演をリリースするのが我々の務め」との使命感を持っておりました。入手した複数のオリジナルファーストジェネレーションのマスターの中では、結果的に「Budokan 2019: The 2nd Show」のマスターが最良だったため、これをリマスターする形で4日目公演における最高のタイトルを製作しようと決定したわけです。本マスターのテーパーの録音場所はアリーナA４ブロック。最前ブロックです。悪いはずがなかったのです。

こうして見ますと、すべてのタイトルが高音質でした。そこに最後に収まった本盤も、有終の美を飾るに相応しいクオリティとなりました。リマスタリングのポイントとしましては、中音域を少し抑えて、全体のサウンドが鮮明になるようにしました。この日はPAもしくは録音機材のセッティング、あるいはマイクの方向の関係からか、アコースティックセット後は高音の抜けが良くなっていますので、後半部との最適バランスを考えての調整としました。また、エレクトリックセットから移行したアコースティックセットの音圧を自然に少し上げ、スムーズに聴き通していただけるようにしました。これで「BUDOKAN 2019: The 2nd Show」のマスターにさらに磨きがかかったわけです。さて2日目のステージでは、初日、10年ぶりに演奏されたエレクトリックLaylaがアンプラグドLaylaに替わり、ファンの期待を殺いだのですが、5公演が終わってみれば、この日はコアなマニアも評価する、全公演中最もプレイクオリティが高い日だったと位置づけられたのでした。それは、力強くスタートしたPretendingのソロでのいきなりの速弾きの炸裂が証明していると言えます。これがこの日の好調ぶりを物語るものでした。30年ぶりにセットインしたWanna Make Love To Youでも歌心に溢れ、かつ流麗な素晴らしいソロをプレイしています。これはまさしく全盛期レベルと言えるもので、この演奏は紛れもなく「名演」と断言できます。これは聴いていただきたい。続くHocchie Coochie Manでも怒涛の速弾きを織り交ぜたソロを弾き、I Shot The Sherffの後奏では、珍しく途中からワウペダルを踏み出してのワイルドなソロを披露、とこの日のクラプトンは老いから来る「劣化」などまったく感じさせない、エレクトリックLaylaを最後にプレイした10年前と同レベルの健在ぶりを示してくれたのです。初日に比べ、演奏は明らかにまとまっており、声の調子も良い感じでした。指も確実に良く動いていました。ステージ後半の流れはここ何年かのパターンに戻っており、アンコールも、この流れでポール・キャラックの歌うHigh Time We Wentとなりましたが、それに失望するどころか、この日のプレイクオリティにはコアなファンも唸ったわけです。「BUDOKAN 2019: The 2nd Show」のレビューでも述べましたが、ちょっとしたお楽しみとして、アンプラグドLaylaのイントロへの導入部で、クラプトンは爪弾くフレーズにビートルズの「エリナー・リグビー」のフレーズを散りばめるという粋なことをしています。それに素早く気づき、歓声を送ったロックファンも場内にいました。さらにこのイントロでは、オリジナルバージョンの7連フレーズをも盛り込んでいます。恐らく彼のキャリアで何百回と演奏してきた中でこれはなかなか珍しいパターンと言えます。こういうところも2日目のクラプトンは楽しめたわけです。後半部の怒涛の弾き捲りはこの日の好調ぶりからすれば当然の結果でしょう。他4公演のプレス盤をお買い求めいただいたお客様はもちろんのこと、特別だった初日のプレス盤に満足されたお客様にも是非本盤のサウンドクオリティとプレイクオリティを聴き比べていただきたいものです。今回の来日公演で最も演奏が良かった日。これもはずせません。
