This year, Elvis Costello not only reunited Rusty, a duo he formed during his school days, but he also released a mini-album “THE RESURRECTION OF RUST” that surprised the world. , As for the live, we did a tour with Imposters as usual, and there, we only invited Alan Mays, Rusty’s partner, to the stage as a guest.
However, in October, Costello appeared at a country festival in San Francisco. That’s why I realized for the first time a stage featuring Rusty on a large scale.
In the first place, since it was a country festival appearance, the band called The Great All American Beauties, which was formed for this event, appeared on stage instead of the usual Imposters.
That being said, the members are all artisan musicians who have had a long relationship with Costello, such as Larry Campbell on guitar and Ostin DeLone on organ. In short, Costello would have asked for the help of musicians other than Imposters for appearances at country events.

The opening is the costello classic “Red Shoes”, which is played on electric guitar, but after that, the performance of cover songs that Americans seem to be delighted with, such as the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia’s solos, occupies. .
In the first half of the live, which essentially turned into a dead cover competition, the performance progressed in a relaxed atmosphere, and Costello’s own new song “Like Licorice On Your Tongue”, which has not been released yet, was performed in a unique composition.
Such a new song is also a song that was performed in such an atmosphere, and it has a slow tempo and is full of Costello’s taste. For example, in the dead cover “Ramble On Rose”, it is wonderful that Campbell’s craftsman guitar solo explodes with a wonderful angle.

Then, in the second half of the live, Maze appeared and it was virtually Rusty’s stage. Starting with Neil Young’s cover that was also included in the EP, Mays, who suddenly came into the spotlight due to this reunion and release, seems really happy (needless to say, he is an ordinary person).
More than anything else, Costello himself was able to capture how he truly enjoyed this reunion, and even in the middle of “Alison” he handed over lead vocals to Mays and gave him flowers.
And above all, it’s exceptional to see the latest Costello show with a completely different sound from Imposters in a professional shot video with perfect image quality and sound quality. The latest live video full of highlights, centering on cover songs like the one above, and also showing the reunion of Costello’s school band with talented musicians. 今年のエルヴィス・コステロは自身が学生時代に組んだデュオ、ラスティを再結成させただけでなく、何とミニ・アルバム「THE RESURRECTION OF RUST」までリリースして世界中をアッと言わせたところですが、ライブに関しては従来どおりインポスターズを従えたツアーを行い、そこでゲストとしてラスティの相棒であるアラン・メイズをゲストでステージに呼ぶ程度にとどまっていました。
ところが10月に入るとコステロはサンフランシスコで行われたカントリーのフェスに出演。そこでラスティを大々的にフィーチャーしたステージを初めて実現させてくれたのです。
そもそもカントリーのフェス出演ということからバックにはいつものインポスターズではなく、今回のイベント用に結成されたThe Great All American Beautiesという名前のバンドを従えてステージに現れました。
とはいってもメンバーはギターのラリー・キャンベルやオルガンのオスティン・デローンといったコステロとの付き合いも長い職人ミュージシャンばかり。要はカントリー・イベントへの出演の為にインポスターズ以外のミュージシャンの助けをコステロが求めたのでしょう。

オープニングこそコステロ・クラシックである「Red Shoes」のエレキ弾き語りで幕を開けますが、以降はグレイトフル・デッドやジェリー・ガルシアのソロといった、いかにもアメリカ人の喜びそうなカバー曲の演奏が占めています。
実質的にデッド・カバー大会と化したライブ前半はゆったりとした雰囲気で演奏が進み、なおかつまだリリースされていないコステロ自身の新曲「Like Licorice On Your Tongue」を披露するというユニークな構成。
そんな新曲もこうした雰囲気の中で披露された曲だけのことはあり、ゆったりとしたテンポで、なおかつコステロらしい味わいに溢れている。例えばデッド・カバー「Ramble On Rose」ではキャンベルの職人ギター・ソロが炸裂する様子を見事なアングルで捉えてくれているのがお見事。

そしてライブ後半はメイズが登場して事実上のラスティによるステージ。EPにも収められていたニール・ヤングのカバーからスタートしますが、今回の再結成＆リリースによって突如として脚光を浴びることとなったメイズは本当に嬉しそう（言うまでもなく彼は一般人です）。
何よりコステロ自身がこの再会を心から楽しんでいる様子もしっかり捉えられており、「Alison」でも途中でメイズにリードボーカルを譲って花を持たせるほど。
それに何と言っても画質も音質も完璧なプロショット映像にてインポスターズとはまったく違うサウンドの最新コステロ・ショウを見られるのは格別。先のようなカバー曲が中心、なおかつ腕利きミュージシャンと共にコステロの学生時代のバンド再結成まで見られるという見どころ満載の最新ライブ映像。しかしながらYouTube上では削除されて見られなくなってしまいましたので、是非とも本タイトルでこのゴキゲンな最新ステージをお楽しみください！
