1992年から1993年にかけてのDEEP PURPLEは、バンド史上でも稀に見る波乱の時代でした。メンバー間の不協和音に加えてレコード会社の思惑が入り乱れる中、ジョー・リン・ターナーの脱退とイアン・ギランの復帰が決定。ジョー在籍時から製作途上だった新作スタジオ・アルバムが、ロジャー・グローヴァーとギランの作業で大きく方向性を変えていく中、リッチーはDEEP PURPLEへの熱意を次第に失っていきました。
その不安定なバンド状態が決裂に至ったのが、「THE BATTLE RAGES ON」をリリースしてのヨーロッパツアー中でした。ツアー開始当初（おおよそドイツでのライヴまで）は、バンド内部の緊張感がある意味プラスに作用していたものの、イギリスツアーが始まった頃にはリッチーがバンド脱退の意思を固め、11月17日のノルウェー・オスロ公演を最後に”第七期”としてのPURPLEは崩壊してしまうのです。このため12月に予定されていた来日公演でリッチーの参加は不可能になり、バンドは窮地に立たされました。そのピンチを救ったのが、アメリカの技巧派ギタリストであるジョー・サトリアーニだったのです。
日本のファンも”リッチー脱退”に衝撃を受け、当初はツアーの中身に疑問符すら付けられましたが、実際にライヴが始まると、会場へ足を運んだファンは「やる気に満ちた新しいPURPLE」を目の当たりにし、嬉しい驚きと大きな満足感に包まれました。こうして’93年来日公演は「リッチー無しでもPURPLEが存続できる」事を証明し、新たなバンドのスタート地点になったのです。
DEEP PURPLE史上でも特筆され、記念される’93年ジャパンツアーは、これまで多くの優れた音源を生み出してきました（東京３公演の６枚組「TOKYO BATTLE」などは、特にファンの間で大きな話題となりました）。その中で「間違いなく最高音質」として、国内のみならず海外でも絶賛されたのが、12月５日の横浜公演を収録した「RAMSHACKLE NIGHT」でした。今回は何と、その決定的マスターと並び立つ奇跡の同日音源オリジナル・マスターが登場！　最高音質マスターの２種類を後世に伝えるため、４枚組の完全限定プレスCDでのリリースを決定しました！

“Recorder 1″となるディスク１と２では、ファンの皆さんから寄せられた熱いご要望にお応えし、「RAMSHACKLE NIGHT」音源をオリジナル・マスターからリマスターの上でプレスCD化！　この「RAMSHACKLE NIGHT」は、2010年に限定20セット・オンリーでリリースされた直後から、余りの高音質で話題となり、海外マニアからも注目を浴びたアイテム。完売・廃盤後も再リリースのリクエストが特に大きい一本です。
本音源はPURPLEの1985年武道館公演における決定版「THRILL OF THE CHASE」や、JUDAS PRIESTの「FAST AND FURIOUS」を録音した、国内でも指折りのテーパーによるもの。ディスクを再生した直後から、抜群のクリアネスと分厚い音色、そしてライヴリーな空気感など、その豊かなサウンドには誰もが驚くでしょう。「Highway Star」は冒頭からいきなり聴き所。空間一杯にこだまするジョン・ロードの芳醇なキーボードを掻き分けるように、イアン・ペイスのドラムとジョー・サトリアーニのギターが突き抜けてくる場面は、何度聴いてもゾクゾクさせられます！　高いダイレクト感でオンに収録された楽音はいずれも明瞭に聴き分けられ、その分離感・立体感そして均整がとれた端正な音像はサウンドボードも道を譲るレベルです。
高い技巧と豊かな感情表現を両立したジョー・サトリアーニならではのプレイは、どの曲でも最高と言うしかない。持ち前の技術を活かした「Pictures Of Home」や「Knocking At Your Back Door」でのプレイがファンを驚かせたのは有名ですが、本作では押さえたトーンでのギター・サウンドこそが凄い。水を打ったような静けさの中、温かなアコースティック・サウンドが紡がれる「Anyone’s Daughter」、そして聴く者の胸を打つ「When A Blind Man Cries」の素晴らしさはため息が出るほど。これらは是非聴いて頂きたい（観客の中には頑固に”リッチー！”コールをする人もいるのですが、これらの曲の後ではそんな声も止んでいます）！　この当時はDATの普及もあって、優れたオーディエンス録音が多く残されていますが、本録音はその中でもトップレベルだと断言できます！

そしてディスク３・４では”Recorder 2″として、今回新たに発掘された新登場音源を、こちらもオリジナルのDATマスターから音盤化。本録音を手がけたのはDEEP PURPLEの1985年関西公演６枚組「FAR FROM GOD」を残したテーパー。その代表的アイテムがDIOの「DRAGON HEAD」だという事実を知れば、コレクターズ・アイテムを収集しているマニアなら「黙って買い」だと理解できるでしょう。
本録音も優れたクリアネスや高いダイレクト感、ライン音源のようなバランスと分離感では”Recorder 1″に遜色ありません。しかし本音源は”Recorder 1″には無い、大きな特徴があります。それはロジャー・グローバーのベースを超リアルに、ありありと浮かび上がる音色で捉えている点。グイグイとドライヴする「Highway Star」から、聴き手は未体験のライヴ・サウンドを体験できるのです。
リッチーはロジャーのベースを余り評価していなかったようですが、本音源を聴けばロジャーの凄さが判るというもの。歌うようなラインでグルーヴを巻き起こす「Ramshackle Man」、アタックの強いプレイで突っ走る「A Twist In The Tale」（この曲ではジョンやサトリアーニも素晴らしい！）など、誰もが曲の新たな魅力に気づくのでは？　往々にして酷評される「Anya」に「The Battle Rages On」なども、思わず「格好良い！」と唸らされます。第二期のナンバーと較べて、第七期の「THE BATTLE RAGES ON」は顧みられる事が少ない作品です。しかし本作では、普段スポットが当たらない楽曲でも視点や角度が変わるだけで「こんなにも魅力的になる」・「曲本来の良さが判る」という事実を教えてくれます！
もちろん定番曲も素晴らしい聴き応え。「Black Night」や「Lazy」で聴けるインタープレイの面白さはもちろん、ド迫力の「Child In Time」は圧巻（これを聴く為だけに本作を入手しても”元を取れる”素晴らしさ）！　ラストの「Speed King」と「Smoke On The Water」も、最高のグルーヴと極上のムードで聴き手を酔わせ、大満足のうちにライヴを締めくくります！

本作は歴史的ドキュメントとして「オーディエンス録音である事に価値や意味がある」素材。それをラインのような最上級サウンドで、しかも２種類も楽しめる。こんな贅沢が許されるのも、コレクターズ・アイテムならでは。今に連なる”リッチー後”のDEEP PURPLEが歩み始めて20年。本作はその記念すべき瞬間を永遠に、色あせる事無い鮮やかさで後世へと伝えます！
