If you watch the documentary “David Bowie’s Last Five Years,” you can see that the REALITY TOUR, which took place from 2003 to 2004, was not only longer than his previous tours, but also very relaxing and full of energy. What happened is told from the person himself.

Guitarist Earl Slick said, “In the 42 years we’ve been together, this tour was the one where Bowie seemed to be having the most fun. I’ve never seen Bowie like that.” “On the Reality Tour he took off his covers and returned to his true Bowie self.” The band members testify that the atmosphere was completely different from their previous tours, with constant humor and laughter both on stage and off-stage. Bowie looked more youthful than ever before, surprising those around him, saying, “He was like someone who had been blessed by God and never grew old.”

As a result, the Reality Tour was the last tour of Bowie’s career. What’s more, he probably never thought that he would suffer a heart attack and end the tour without finishing his schedule.

This work is a complete recording of the Buffalo performance on May 25, 2004. The set list starting with “Rebel Rebel” remains the same, but “Sister Midnight” is inserted before “New Killer Star”, and in the second half, not only “Quicksand” and “Queen Bitch” from the album “Hunky Dory”, but also ” I’m surprised that they even play “The Bewlay Brothers.”
Bonus tracks include “Let’s Dance” with a different arrangement and “Loving The Alien”, which was removed from the set list only in the early stages of the tour. A solid press with beautiful picture disc specifications for permanent preservation.

ドキュメンタリー「デヴィッド・ボウイ最後の5年間」を観ると、2003年から2004年にかけて行なわれた REALITY TOUR は、それまでのツアーに比べ長期に渡る事はもちろん、非常にリラックスかつ気力充実して臨んでいた事が本人の口から語られている。

ギターのアール・スリックは「42年間一緒に活動した中で、一番ボウイが楽しそうだったのがこのツアーだ。あんなボウイは初めて見た」と述べている。「リアリティツアーで彼は自分の覆いを取り去り、素のボウイに戻った」。ステージはもちろん、オフ・ステージの場面でもユーモアと笑いが絶えず、これまでのツアーとは全く異なる雰囲気であったとバンド・メンバーが証言している。かつてない程に若々しいボウイの姿は「まるで神から恩恵を受け年をとらない人のようであった」と周囲を驚かせている。

結果的にボウイのキャリアにおいてリアリティ・ツアーは生涯最後のツアーとなった。しかも心臓発作を起こし日程を未消化のまま終わる事になるとは本人も思わなかっただろう。

本作は2004年5月25日バッファロー公演を完全収録している。「Rebel Rebel」から始まるセットリストは変わらないが、「New Killer Star」の前に「Sister Midnight」を挟んだり、後半にはアルバム『Hunky Dory』から「Quicksand」「Queen Bitch」のみならず、「The Bewlay Brothers」まで演奏しているのには驚く。
ボーナストラックにはアレンジが異なる「Let’s Dance」や、ツアー初期のみでセットリストから外れた「Loving The Alien」などを収録。美しいピクチャーディスク仕様の永久保存がっちりプレス盤。
