About half a year after the legendary first visit to Japan, Hall & Oats in 1980 returned to Japan with the big hit of “VOICES”. Introducing a new excavation original master who can experience the site in the best possible way.
The performance of “October 9, 1980: Tokyo Kosei Nenkin Kaikan” was imbued with this work. It is the superb audience recording. The legendary first visit to Japan was also in 1980, but this work is for those who come back to Japan. Above, 6 performances + 7 performances, 13 performances in total. The first visit to Japan was realized three months after the release of “X-STATIC”, but the return visit to Japan was in the “VOICES” era. It was a revisit two months after the album was released. Of the five performances in Tokyo where the name “Shinjuku Tsubaki House” came to the fore, the welfare pension hall of this work was the last day of the concert.
This work recorded at such a show is exactly the highest quality with “super”. Anyway, the core is very thick and powerful, and the details are super clear. If you listen carefully with your headphones, you will notice that you are picking up a faint hall sound, but it is also deliciously producing only the luster and dynamism that can not be said without being a distance. Actually, I’m listening while looking for evidence of audience recording for the commentary, but even so, “the tone of the drums (which is also partial) is a bit like a guest recording …”. 以上、６公演＋７公演の全13公演。初来日は『X-STATIC』リリースから３ヶ月後に実現したわけですが、再来日は『VOICES』時代。アルバム発売から２ヶ月後での再訪でした。「新宿ツバキハウス」の名もグッと来る東京５公演のうち、本作の厚生年金会館は最終日のコンサートでした。
そんなショウで記録された本作は、まさに「超」付きの極上クオリティ。とにかく芯が極太で力強く、ディテールも超鮮明。ヘッドフォンで耳を澄ますとうっすらとしたホール鳴りを拾っているのにも気づきますが、それも距離にならずに得も言われぬ艶とダイナミズムだけを美味しく演出している。実際、解説文のためにオーディエンス録音の証拠を探しながら聴いているのですが、それでも「ドラムの音色（それも部分的）がちょっと客録っぽい。。。かも」くらい。そうこうしているうちにリッチに彩られたメロディに心奪われ、いつしか証拠探ししている自分がアホらしくなってくる……そんなタイプの極上録音なのです。
