Christine Mcvie / Columbus 1984 / 2CDR / Uxbridge
RKO Palace Theater, Columbus, OH, USA 8th May 1984
Christine McVie’s solo live video released last week, which received many voices saying, “Nostalgic!” However, since it is a live video that was officially released in real time, it is also a material that can be guessed if it is a maniac.
Rather, what enthusiasts are interested in is the real live recording of that period. Yes, it will be an audience recording.
In fact, her eponymous solo album, released in 1984, was a huge success in the United States, so it was only natural that she would go on tour. However, unlike Mac, where the arena is commonplace, it was carried out using a theater class venue.
If so, it makes me want to catch a glimpse of the tour that evolved from “COUNTRY CLUB 1983”, which was a club gig for live video recording. Ironically, after receiving her obituary, a valuable audience recording from that time came to see the light of day.
The sound quality is very clear even though it has a good sense of distance, and if it weren’t for the occasional noise mixed in, it was at a level that could have been done with a press CD. The noise has also been carefully deleted, so it is easier to hear than the original file that appeared on the net.
Above all, I can now enjoy Christine’s solo tour with such a high-quality sound source.
This tour was held at the same time that the solo album was released and the single “Love Will Show Us How” was also a hit (the Japanese title “Koi no Heart Beat” is nostalgic, and it is also a hit in Japan).
Therefore, although the opening will be Mac Classic’s “Say You Love Me”, the main part will be the hit solo album. The feeling of an active artist is strong.
In addition, the raw sound of the early 80’s, which was seen in the album and the club gigs of the previous year, was softened by the live sound emitted from the stage, and rather evolved into a nice power pop.
It is also attractive that the musicians who participated in the album performed lively, especially guitarist Billy Burnette, who performed his own song “Guitar Bug” during the live. This also shines on the stage without discomfort.
And since it is a solo, unlike the stage of the principal image, Christine also sprinkles her own Mac Classics just for this occasion, but there is a selection of tears of mania called “Spare Me a Little of Your Love”. .
Not only was Christine’s famous song, which had not been performed on stage since Mack’s 77, revived here, but it was reborn as a splendid 80’s version by the musicians on her solo album.
I can’t help but be amazed at how Christine’s set list was filled with new and old things and was full of confidence, and I was just amazed at how fulfilling the stage was.
Despite her hits, Christine’s solo activities, which now feel overlooked, are rare live recordings that are truly worthy of remembering her. Not to mention its preciousness, the performance and sound quality are the best!
