This is BOSTON in 1976/1977. The Cleveland performance of this work was the second concert of “North America # 2” about one month after the album was released … 1” is not a tour, but a promotional one-shot performance. The full-scale tour is from “North America # 2”, and this work is the second performance. In other words, it was also a super-very early show for BOSTON himself, the fifth performance.
This work, which conveys such a historical stage, is exactly the finest sound board with “super”. It is the highest peak master excavated more than 10 years ago, and was once loved as part of the 3-disc set “MOTHERSHIP”. Of course, this work is not a copy or remaster of “MOTHERSHIP”. It goes back to the original reel master’s natural transfer, and from there, detailed mastering is performed by “GRAF ZEPPELIN”. We are renewing the highest peak in history.
As you may know if you have read this article, the method of “GRAF ZEPPELIN” is “super natural” and “the band’s sound output principle”. In the world, there are still flashy remasters that just raise the sound pressure, but although it is easy and flashy, the subtleties of the performance are lost and the sound deteriorates. “GRAF ZEPPELIN” is the exact opposite, repairing the sound that has been degraded in each process such as recording, storage, and digitization, and returning it to the original source. It will be reprinted from the viewpoint of “sound output at the site”. In other words, it is a sound source version of “Repair work of paintings and cultural properties”.
Speaking of specific work, it’s actually faithful to the basics. Adjust the pitch accurately, correct the phase shift and tape running distortion, and cleanly remove the noise. The important thing here is “not to change the performance sound”. If you’ve ever tried mastering, I’m sure you’ve used automatic noise reduction to distort your performance. is important. Hiss if this work is an example. If you perform automatic processing all at once, the performance sound will be distorted, but this work analyzes the band and adjusts it for each band. Even then, I follow the waveform with my eyes, and make fine adjustments while checking with headphones to determine the size of the “here!” Moreover, “Coco!” changes as the performance progresses, so I will continue to follow it throughout the piece. I think you can imagine the work that seems to be daunting just by writing it down, but that is why the beautiful performance sound is realized as if there was no hiss from the beginning.
Another point is the “range of range”. It is sometimes misunderstood that increasing the sound pressure by applying compression expands the range, but in fact the opposite is true. The overpeaked strong sounds are only crushed, and the weak sounds are also raised, so the range becomes narrower. Of course, there is no need to worry about this in this work. Weak sounds remain soft, leaving every detail clean, and a finish that does not overstretch even strong sounds. You may feel that the volume is small when you listen to it, but it has a wide range and high resolution sound.
