This is the 10 performances beginning the North American tour of ongoing. AC/DCと交互に展開されている再編GUNS N’ ROSESの“NOT IN THIS LIFETIME… TOUR”。その最新極上ライヴアルバムが登場です。先日も日本人テーパーのオリジナル作品『CHICAGO 2016 2ND NIGHT（ZODIAC 188）』でレポートしたばかりですが、早くも更なるハイクオリティ録音が飛び出してきてしまいました！　そんな本作が録音されたのは「2016年７月14日フィラデルフィア公演」。『CHICAGO 2016 2ND NIGHT』との距離感も合わせ、日程で確認してみましょう。

これが現在進行中の北米ツアー冒頭の10公演。スラッシュとダフ・マッケイガンが復帰したGUNS N’ ROSESは、今年４月にお披露目の７公演をこなした後、アクセル・ローズがAC/DCのツアーへ参加。上日程の最上段デトロイト公演が再開第１夜ですから、本作のフィラデルフィア公演は現ツアー９公演目（再編16公演目）にあたります。
そんな本作最大のポイントは、極上のサウンド。正直な話、４月のお披露目７公演は世界中の耳目を集めながら大した録音がなく、先日の『CHICAGO 2016 2ND NIGHT』でやっと「おっしゃ、来た！」という感じだったのですが、本作はその次元を超越。そのクリアで骨太のサウンドは、いわゆる「まるでサウンドボード」の言葉がそっくり当てはまる凄まじい録音だったのです。スラッシュの“あの”鳴り、ダフのぶっといグルーヴ、アクセルの七変化ヴォーカル……そのすべてが耳元にねじ込まれるようなダイレクト感はひたすら圧倒的。『CHICAGO 2016 2ND NIGHT』は“VIPシートの体験感”が先走りましたが、本作は間違いなく“録音音ベスト・シート”。各楽器の分離も美しく、ゴリゴリとしたノリが五臓を貫き、六腑を踊らせやがるのです。
それだけサウンドボードっぽい楽音であっても、本作は間違いなくオーディエンス録音。近席の歌声などはほとんどないのですが、広大な熱狂の絨毯が素晴らしい。大歓声と楽音の配分は、まるで丁寧にミックスされたオフィシャル作品のように理想的ではあるものの、曲中に歓声ヴォリュームが下がるようなわざとらしさがない。沸き立つ熱狂を強力無比な楽音が押しつぶすカタチでバランスを取るリアリティが最高に熱いのです。さらに凄いのがショウの要所要所で炸裂するパイロ。ビビるくらいの炸裂音が轟くのですが、そんな突然の轟音さえも割れない！　肝をえぐるド迫力サウンドでありながら、あくまで美しく、一瞬たりとも端正さを失わないとは……。そんな極上サウンドだけに、究極を目指すべく、細心のマスタリング作業にも全力を投入しました。原音はやや低音に過剰な部分もあったのですが、そこを抑えて全体を調整。拍手音も緩和しつつ、ボーカル＆スネアがグッと前に迫り出すことで、鮮やかさをさらにアップさせました。もちろん、原音の“鳴り”を最重視しておりますので、無理な歪みは一切ありません。
そんなサウンドで描かれるライヴそのものも、『CHICAGO 2016 2ND NIGHT』とはやや違った表情を聴かせてくれる。何よりもポイントなのはセットリストで、「Raw Power」が落ちた代わりにTHE DAMNEDのカバー「New Rose」がセットイン。さらに『CHINESE DEMOCRACY』の「Sorry」も追加されました。この両曲はただの変更ではなく、どちらもレア。「New Rose」は４月にも演奏されたものの、まだ数えるくらいしかやったことがありませんし、「Sorry」をスラッシュ＆ダフが弾くのはこの日が初めて。これまでも「Chinese Democracy」「This I Love」「Better」といった『CHINESE DEMOCRACY』ナンバーがスラッシュ＆ダフ・バージョンで蘇ってきたわけですが、そのコレクションがまた１曲増えたわけです。

兎にも角にも、極上のサウンド。サウンドボード級の楽音に、オーディエンス録音でしかあり得ない熱さ、それが理想的にミックスされたようなライヴアルバムです。完成度だけなら「オフィシャル級」と呼んでも構わないほどなのに、オフィシャルではあり得ない激アツ盤。すでに何公演も聴いてきましたが、ここまで熱いライヴだとは思いませんでした。現在のGUNS N’ ROSES、凄い……です。聴いているだけで心拍数も呼吸もハネ上がる極上エキサイティング・アルバム。永久に色あせないプレスCDに封じ込め、今週末あなたのお手元へ！
