At the end of last year, the shocking complete soundboard album “SLANE 1984 SOUNDBOARD” that overwhelmed Dylan maniacs all over the world. As a bonus, “It Ain’t Me, Babe” was recorded as a bonus from the Newcastle performance three days ago. Not only was it a song that hadn’t been played at Slaine, but maybe Newcastle too? It played the role of a wonderful “smell” bonus, but this time the release of Newcastle’s complete sound board will be realized!
Originally on this day, multi-track recording was also done for “REAL LIVE”, and in fact “License To Kill” and “Tombstone Blues” were adopted for the live album, and the rough mix was also “Mr. Tambourine Man ” Only one song leaked out and saw the light of day with the title “LIFE TAKES LIVETAKES”. However, even though it was a multi-track, it was a rough mix, and it was in a state where it was difficult to say that it was excellent due to the addition of the gene drop peculiar to the outflow. However, this time, a PA-out sound board with a completely different recording path was discovered.
As “SLANE 1984 SOUNDBOARD” proved, Dylan’s Eighties soundboard has a very clear sound quality, and this time it has a stereo feeling. Thanks to that, it’s very enjoyable to listen to with headphones as well as speakers. At the same time, the greatest umami of the PA sound board, the vividness that seems to be poured directly into the ear, has a feeling of being fully utilized because the sound is clear. It is a recording state that allows you to enjoy live performances much more than the outflow multi-generation falling sound source that I mentioned earlier.
Unfortunately, the tape change was at the beginning of “Every Grain Of Sand”, so I thought about supplementing it with another source, but the audience on the same day failed to change the tape at the same place and record it. It turned out that There is such a thing (laughs).
And above all, what is surprising is the high-tension performance that Dylan and the other members unfolded. Thanks to the PA sound board, it is clearly captured that the tension of him and the band rises from “Jokerman” at once. After that, the intensity of the performance for a while, and why weren’t these early performances adopted for “REAL LIVE”? I want to scratch my head. There was an easy-to-understand reason why such a high-tension performance was unfolded from the beginning.
Dylan, who finished singing “Just Like A Woman”, said, “I was able to play in front of everyone who could speak English for the first time (on this tour),” and said that he could not hide his joy. was the start of “VERONA 1984 1ST NIGHT” heard on UXBRIDGE’s masterpiece CD-R, and it is remembered that June was completely around the area outside the English-speaking world. Besides, in the past European tours, 1978 and 1981, the concert was held at Earl’s Court first, whereas in 1984 the UK was the final destination, which was the opposite schedule. Therefore, I am convinced that Dylan said such words involuntarily.
The result of hustling in front of a large English-speaking audience must have led to the high-energy performance of the day. In addition, two days later, Wembley was attended by gorgeous guests, and even interviews were organized before the live performance, so it was probably an event-like element. I think the feeling of being able to concentrate also led to a great performance.
Of course, Mick Taylor also played to his heart’s content, giving the impression that his playing stands out throughout the entire live performance. From there until Santana appeared and gave him the main, he played it down considerably. In addition, since it is a stereo sound board with outstanding sound, you can thoroughly enjoy this thrilling performance.
And this time there is also a bonus track, this time “Senor (Tales Of Yankee Power)” from Grenoble, France, which was performed before Newcastle. Multi-recording for “REAL LIVE” was also held on this day, and a rough mix of one song “When You Gonna Wake Up” was leaked in the past, but this is also a completely unreleased PA sound board. ・ Recording from the take, the sound quality is also wonderfully clear. A new excavation sound board that will be released on a limited press CD while the afterglow of that wonderful performance in Japan has not cooled down!
昨年末、世界中のディラン・マニアの度肝を抜いた衝撃のコンプリート・サウンドボード・アルバム『SLANE 1984 SOUNDBOARD』。そこには最後にボーナスとして三日前のニューカッスル公演から「It Ain’t Me, Babe」がボーナスとして収録されていました。それはスレインで演奏されていなかった曲というだけでなく、もしかしてニューカッスルも？という見事な「匂わせ」ボーナスの役目を果たしていたのですが、晴れて今回はニューカッスルの完全版サウンドボードのリリースが実現します！
元々この日は『REAL LIVE』用にマルチトラックでの収録も行われており、実際ライブアルバムには「License To Kill」と「Tombstone Blues」が採用され、さらにはラフミックスも「Mr. Tambourine Man」一曲だけ流出して『LIFE TAKES LIVETAKES』というタイトルで日の目を見ていました。とはいってもマルチトラックとはいえラフミックスな上に流出特有のジェネ落ちが加わってエクセレントとは言い難い状態だったのですが。ところが今回はまったく録音経路が違うPAアウトのサウンドボードが発掘。
『SLANE 1984 SOUNDBOARD』が証明してくれたように、ディランのエイティーズ・サウンドボードは非常に音質がクリアーな上、今回はステレオ感まである。おかげでスピーカーからはもちろん、ヘッドフォンで聞いても非常に楽しい。それでいてPAサウンドボード最大のうま味である、耳にダイレクトに流し込まれるような生々しさも音がクリアーゆえに活かされ切った感がある。先に触れた流出マルチのジェネ落ちまくり音源などよりもはるかにライブを楽しめる録音状態なのです。
惜しむらくはテープ・チェンジが「Every Grain Of Sand」の冒頭に被ってしまったことで、ここを別ソースで補填しようかと考えたものの、何と同日のオーディエンスも同じ個所でテープを替えて録音しそびれていたことが判明。こんなことってあるんですね（笑）。
そして何と言っても驚かされるのは、ディラン以下のメンバーが繰り広げたハイテンションな演奏。PAサウンドボードのおかげで「Jokerman」から彼やバンドのテンションが一気に上がる様子がはっきり捉えられている。そこからしばらくの演奏の激しさたるや、何でこれらライブ序盤の演奏が『REAL LIVE』に採用されなかったの？と首をかしたくなるほど。どうしてこれほどまでテンションの高い演奏が序盤から繰り広げられたのには、何とも解りやすい理由があったのです。
「Just Like A Woman」を歌い終えたディランが「（今回のツアーで）初めて英語の通じるみんなの前で演奏できたんだ」と喜びを隠しきれない様子で語っており、なるほど考えてみればツアー初日はUXBRIDGEの名作CD-Rで聞かれる『VERONA 1984 1ST NIGHT』というスタートでしたし、6月は丸っきり英語圏外の地域を廻っていたことを思い知られます。それに過去のヨーロッパツアー、78年や81年は最初にアールズ・コートでコンサートを開いていたのに対し、84年はイギリスが最終地という正反対のスケジュールが組まれていた。それに故に思わずディランから先のような言葉が出たのも納得。
こうして英語が通じる大観衆を前にハッスルした結果がこの日のハイテンションな演奏へと繋がったのでしょう。それに二日後のウェンブリーは豪華ゲストの参加、さらにはライブ前に取材も組まれていたりと多分にイベント的な要素が強かったのですが、そうした余計なことががない分、この日は演奏に集中できてる感もまた名演へとつながったのではないでしょうか。
当然ミック・テイラーも存分に弾きまくってくれており、ライブ全編を通してプレイが際立っている印象。そこからサンタナ登場で彼にメインを譲るまでは相当に弾き倒してくれています。おまけに音が抜群のステレオ・サウンドボードですので、この胸がすくような快演ぶりもじっくりと楽しめてしまう。
そして今回もボーナストラックが収められているのですが、今度はニューカッスルの前に行われたフランスはグレノーブルからの「Senor (Tales Of Yankee Power)」。この日も『REAL LIVE』用のマルチ収録が行われ、その中から「When You Gonna Wake Up」一曲のラフミックスが過去には流出していましたが、これまた完全未発表のPAサウンドボード・テイクからの収録で、その音質がまた素晴らしくクリアー。あの素晴らしかった来日公演の余韻も冷めやらぬ中、限定プレスCDにてリリースされるまたしても衝撃の新発掘サウンドボード！
