[“BORN AGAIN demo”, a legend in the history of Sabas sound sources] The legendary tape is commonly known as “THE MANOR TAPE”. This is a stereo sound board recording leaked from Oxford’s “The Manor Studio” where “BORN AGAIN” was produced. The contents are a demo during the production of “BORN AGAIN”. Yes, it is “UNMIXED DEMOS” excavated in 2004. This demo excavation was truly a major event in the history of Sabas sound sources. “The Fallen”, which was an unreleased song at that time, became public for the first time, there is no half-finished take like in the middle of composition, and the mix of each song is also a different version. In particular, “Zero The Hero” was 9 minutes or more, “Stonehenge” was 5 minutes or more, which was a long version that greatly exceeded the album, and “Disturbing the Priest” also had a disturbing guitar intro that the album does not have. It was a musical piece that deserved to be called “another BORN AGAIN”. The impact was taken up by general music magazines, and many of you may remember the original cover that was reversed in red and blue.
Moreover, this demo attracted a lot of attention not only for the performance but also for the sound. In the first place, the official board “BORN AGAIN” is an album that has been told by Tony Iommi and Giran that “it was changed arbitrarily at the mix stage”, “it is not the original sound”, and “the demo at home is a great sound”. .. I can’t say if it’s the same as Iommi’s or Giran’s “demo I have”, but this demo was in the tentative mix stage, and enthusiasts from all over the world said, “You can hear the original sound!”
Since then, copy boots have been produced and distributed all over the world, but the source of all of them is one cassette tape. It is “THE MANOR TAPE” handwritten as “Black Sabbath 26.6.83”. This work is a re-digitization of the original cassette in kind with high-end equipment in 2021. Recently, it is the highest peak update board that has been refined by detailed mastering by “GRAF ZEPPELIN”, which has become very popular for remastering projects such as PINK FLOYD.

[Rich latest truffle that revives “studio sound”] The process of this work was extremely precise. Equipment with many vintage recording records (please forgive the model name) ・ Digitization in the environment. This accuracy is completely different from the conventional board. If you are an avid collector, you may remember the previous issue of “direct copy”, but it is a different dimension. It’s clear and vivid, unlike the existing ones that seemed to ring in the distance. Even the fine details that were spoiled in the transfer over 15 years ago are picked up tightly.
Even more wonderful is the unprocessed feeling. The biggest factor is the low noise. As a matter of fact, in the conventional transfer, there was high frequency noise at 13khz-20khz, which was removed by reduction. However, this transfer does not originally have that high frequency noise. Therefore, there is no need to apply noise reduction, and the essential performance sound and vocals do not have the jerky processing feeling of the conventional version. Even the subtleties of the sound are fresh and lustrous.
And the mastering of the finish also makes the best use of such natural transfer. In this regard, it may be better to say that it is a difference in “concept” rather than “precision”. At our shop, we have introduced the remastered version in “THE LEGENDARY MASTERS 1983” etc., but that was aimed at “feeling of work”. While enjoying the difference between the official work and the performance and mix, we aimed to be “another BORN AGAIN” that is not defeated by listening. Therefore, it was finished as a “heavy metal album” that has not only sound pressure but also sharp edges and a metallic feel of sound.
On the other hand, the concept of this work is “truth”. Without touching the sound pressure gain, edge emphasis, tone color, etc., from beginning to end with “basics / basics” such as thorough correction of pitch and phase shift (this transfer is so dense that it is possible). .. We are focusing on reproducing the sound that was being played in the studio by drawing out the “sound” that the tape was sucking in without leaking it to the maximum. Therefore, the sound of this work is not “glare” but “fat rich deep”. In other words, it’s more like “hard rock BORN AGAIN” than “heavy metal”.

It is a supernatural album that revives the sound that was sucked in by the original cassette of “BORN AGAIN demo” that spread all over the world. This is the true appearance of the legendary cassette. A historical proof that the sound that was playing in “The Manor Studio” on June 23, 1983 flows out of the speaker as it is. 【サバス音源史の伝説である“BORN AGAINデモ”】
その伝説テープとは、通称「THE MANOR TAPE」。『BORN AGAIN』が制作されたオックスフォードの“The Manor Studio”から流出したステレオ・サウンドボード録音です。その中身は『BORN AGAIN』制作中のデモ。そう、2004年に発掘された“UNMIXED DEMOS”です。このデモ発掘は、まさにサバス音源史の一大事件でした。当時は未発表曲だった「The Fallen」が初めて公になり、作曲途中のような中途半端なテイクは１つもなく、各曲のミックスも大きく異なる別バージョンぞろい。特に「Zero The Hero」は９分以上、「Stonehenge」は５分以上とアルバムを大きく上回る長尺版でしたし、「Disturbing the Priest」もアルバムにはない不穏なギターイントロが付いているなど、「もう１つのBORN AGAIN」と呼ぶに相応しい音楽作品だったのです。その衝撃は一般音楽誌にも取り上げられ、赤青反転したオリジナル・カバーをご記憶の方も多いのではないでしょうか。
しかも、このデモは演奏だけでなくサウンドも話題を呼んだ。そもそもオフィシャル盤『BORN AGAIN』はトニー・アイオミやギランから「ミックス段階で勝手に変えられてしまった」「本来のサウンドではない」「自宅にあるデモは凄い音なんだ」と言われてきたアルバム。アイオミやギランが言う「俺が持ってるデモ」と同じものかは断言できませんが、このデモは仮ミックス段階であり、「本来のサウンドが聴ける！」と世界中のマニアが色めき立ったのです。
その後、世界中でコピーブートが制作・流通してきたわけですが、そのすべての源泉は１本のカセット・テープ。「Black Sabbath 26.6.83」と手書きされた「THE MANOR TAPE」なのです。本作は、そのオリジナル・カセット現物を2021年のハイエンド機材で再デジタル化。最近、PINK FLOYDなどのリマスター企画が大評判となっている「GRAF ZEPPELIN」による細密マスタリングで磨き上げた最高峰更新盤なのです。

【“スタジオの音”が甦るリッチな最新トランファー】
そんな本作の工程は精緻を極めました。数々のヴィンテージ録音実績を積んだ機材（機種名はご容赦ください）・環境でデジタル化。この精度が従来盤とはまるで違う。熱心なコレクターの方なら「ダイレクト・コピー」をウリにした既発をご記憶の方もいらっしゃるかも知れませんが、それとは次元が異なる。モコモコと遠くで鳴っていたような既発とは違ってクッキリ鮮やか。15年以上前のトランスファーではスポイルされていた微細なディテールまでキッチリと拾っているのです。
さらに素晴らしいのが、無加工感。その最大の要因がノイズの少なさ。実のところ、従来トランスファーでは13khz-20khzに高周波ノイズがあり、それをリダクションで削っていました。しかし、今回のトランスファーではその高周波ノイズが元々ない。そのためノイズ・リダクションをかける必要がなく、肝心の演奏音やヴォーカルにも従来盤のようなジャリジャリとした加工感がない。機微の機微まで瑞々しく、艶やかなサウンドが実現しているのです。
そして仕上げのマスタリングも、そんなナチュラル・トランスファーを最大限に活かしている。これに関しては「精度」よりも「コンセプト」の違いと言った方が良いかもしれません。当店では『THE LEGENDARY MASTERS 1983』等でリマスター・バージョンをご紹介した事もありますが、そちらが狙っていたのは「作品感」。オフィシャル作品と演奏やミックスの違いを楽しめつつ、聴き応えでは負けない「もう１つのBORN AGAIN」を目指した。そのため、音圧だけでなくエッジの鋭さや鳴りの金属感もある「ヘヴィメタル・アルバム」に仕上げられていたのです。
それに対し、本作のコンセプトは「真実」。音圧稼ぎやエッジの強調、音色などには一切手を触れず、ピッチ・位相ズレの徹底補整といった「基礎・基本」に終始（それが可能なほど、今回のトランスファーが濃密という事でもあります）。テープが吸い込んでいた「音」を最大漏らさず引き出し、スタジオで鳴っていた音自体を再現することに注力している。そのため、本作のサウンドは「ギラギラ」ではなく「ファット・リッチ・ディープ」。もっと言えば「ヘヴィメタル」というよりは「ハードロック的BORN AGAIN」なのです。

世界中に広がった「BORN AGAINデモ」の大元カセットが吸い込んでいたサウンドを最大漏らさす甦らせたスーパーナチュラル・アルバムです。これこそ、伝説カセットの真の姿。1983年６月23日に“The Manor Studio”で鳴っていた音がそのままスピーカーから流れ出す歴史の証拠品。どうぞ、輝きを永久に失わないプレスCDで存分にご体験ください。

・前回盤ではヒスリダクションと中域を徹底的に持ち上げた影響でだいぶ｢コー｣､｢ジャリジャリ｣という加工ノイズあり｡
・また前回盤では高域も落としているため､ヒスはありませんがデジタルぽく浮遊した質感でした｡
・また前回盤では20khz､18khz､15khz､13khzにあった高周波ノイズがありましたが､今回盤は元々なし｡
・ヒスは多めですがノイズリダクション等は一切掛けてません｡
・前回盤にくらべ､よりカセットに近い､深みと密度感のあるサウンド
・前回盤とは全く違う質感です｡
