The “Ronnie James Dio / Bill Ward” era, which ended up with bubbles on the stage while creating a historic masterpiece. Introducing a masterpiece live album where you can fully experience the scene.
It was “July 19, 1980 Seattle performance” that was imbued with such a work. It’s a full audience recording. As is widely known, Bill Ward disappeared in the middle of the “HEAVEN AND HELL Tour” and was replaced by Vinny Appice. After that, Vinnie acted as a drummer for the “DEHUMANIZER” era in 1992 and the HEAVEN & HELL project after 2006. When that happens, I’m curious about the co-starring live of “Ronnie / Bill”. In this work, you can experience the full show on-site. First, let’s check how long the “Ronnie / Bill” era was from the schedule at that time.

This is BLACK SABBATH in 1980/1981. Bill disappeared in the middle of “North America # 1”, and “HEAVEN AND HELL 5 people” were only in “Europe # 1” and “North America # 1a” at the beginning of the tour. The Seattle performance of this work is the 8th performance of “North America # 1a”. Speaking of audience recording in the Ronnie / Bill era, the masterpiece “LONELY IS THE WORD: THE LEGENDARY MASTER (Zodiac 010)” reigns as a symbol, but this work is one month later.
Such a show is also known for its famous recordings, and in the olden days, masterpieces such as “DANCE OF THE DEVIL” have been loved. Whereas such a vintage boot was an incomplete version up to “Die Young”, this work is a complete version with a full show. I’m sure there are some collectors who think, “Isn’t there a complete version before?”, But the sound was (quite) inferior to “DANCE OF THE DEVIL” even though it was complete. Unlike that, this work is a complete version by the master of the Nordic collector “Per-Erik”.
This is actually a difficult thing. After all, “DANCE OF THE DEVIL” is a legendary recording of a sound that surpasses even “LONELY IS THE WORD”. The thick and thick core is powerful, and there is no sense of distance in the vivid details in every corner. Since it is the complete version, it may take the “Ronnie / Bill era throne” instead of “LONELY IS THE WORD” (although I can’t say for sure because it is related to rare songs).
Of course, I would like to say that it is a press immediately, but there was one point I was concerned about. That is “2nd or 3rd Gene”. Certainly, if you listen with headphones, you will feel a little more hiss than “DANCE OF THE DEVIL”, and the existence of “more sound” cannot be denied. This was introduced from the Shades label, believing in the possibility of “excavating the Omoto master!”
The sound of such a king is drawn by the precious Ronnie / Bill era full show. The set is familiar, but let’s organize it for the time being.

…… And it looks like this. The precious “Lonely Is the Word” was only “Europe # 1”, so there are no rare songs, but the ensemble itself is rare. After all, what I heard was Bill’s drumming, and it is interesting that his personality and feelings are honestly expressed. To put it simply, he’s losing motivation and is hitting the new songs of “HEAVEN AND HELL” in a super-simple way. This is not a comparison with Vinnie, but a comparison with Bill’s own studio album. In other words, “LONELY IS THE WORD” of “Europe # 1” was still powerful, and it included a fill unique to live performances, but in this work it has decreased sharply.
What’s even more interesting is the wonderful singing heart drumming that is reminiscent of the 70’s when it comes to classics from the Ozzy era. In other words, it wasn’t technique or health that Bill disappeared, but motivation. Drumming that just shouts “I want to go back to the 70’s” and “I miss Ozzy”. It is rare for an honest person to show his true intentions in the performance so far.
The Ronnie / Bill era is not only valuable, but it is also possible to see through the psychological back by comparing one performance and one performance. It is a masterpiece recording that you can enjoy the full show. It is a new masterpiece that is sufficiently press-class in terms of quality. Please enjoy it carefully.

歴史的大名盤を創り上げつつ、ステージでは泡沫で終わってしまった「ロニー・ジェイムズ・ディオ／ビル・ワード」時代。その現場をフル体験できる大傑作ライヴアルバムが登場です。
そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「1980年７月19日シアトル公演」。そのフル・オーディエンス録音です。広く知られているように、“HEAVEN AND HELL Tour”の途中でビル・ワードが失踪してヴィニー・アピスに交代。その後、1992年の『DEHUMANIZER』時代も2006年以降のHEAVEN & HELLプロジェクトもヴィニーがドラマーを務めました。そうなると気になるのが「ロニー／ビル」の共演ライヴ。本作は、そのフルショウを現場体験できるわけです。まずは、その「ロニー／ビル」時代がどれくらいだったのか、当時のスケジュールから確かめてみましょう。

これが1980年／1981年のBLACK SABBATH。ビルが失踪したのは「北米#1」の途中であり、「HEAVEN AND HELLの５人」が揃っていたのはツアー冒頭の「欧州#1」と「北米#1a」だけ。本作のシアトル公演は、その「北米#1a」８公演目。ロニー／ビル時代のオーディエンス録音と言えば、最高傑作『LONELY IS THE WORD: THE LEGENDARY MASTER（Zodiac 010）』が象徴として君臨しておりますが、本作はその１ヶ月班後にあたります。
そんなショウは、名録音が残された事でも知られ、古くは『DANCE OF THE DEVIL』等の名作が愛されてきました。そうしたヴィンテージ・ブートは「Die Young」までの不完全版だったのに対し、本作はショウをフル収録した完全版なのです。ここで「前にも完全版もあったよな？」と思われるコレクターもいらっしゃると思いますが、既発は完全であっても『DANCE OF THE DEVIL』よりサウンドが（かなり）劣っていた。本作はそれとは異なり、北欧コレクター「Per-Erik」所蔵マスターによる完全版なのです。
これは実は大変な事でもある。何しろ『DANCE OF THE DEVIL』は『LONELY IS THE WORD』さえ凌駕するサウンドの伝説録音。骨太・肉厚な芯は力強く、隅々まで鮮やかなディテールには距離感など皆無。その完全版なのですから、『LONELY IS THE WORD』に代わって「ロニー／ビル時代の王座」を奪いかねないのです（レア曲の関係もあるので断言は出来ませんが）。
もちろん、即プレス……と言いたいところなのですが、１つだけ気になる点があった。それは「2nd or 3rdジェネ」だという事。確かにヘッドフォンで耳を済ませば『DANCE OF THE DEVIL』より若干ヒスも感じますし、「これ以上の音」の存在も否定できない。ここは「大元マスター発掘！」の可能性を信じてShadesレーベルからのご紹介となったわけです。
そんな王者のサウンドで描かれるのは、貴重なロニー／ビル時代のフルショウ。セットはお馴染みですが、一応整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。貴重な「Lonely Is the Word」は「欧州#1」だけだったのでレア曲の類はありませんが、アンサンブル自体がレア。やはり聞き物はビルのドラミングでして、彼の性格や想いが正直に表れているのが面白い。端的に言いますと、やる気を失いかけており、『HEAVEN AND HELL』の新曲群を超シンプルに叩いている。これはヴィニーとの比較ではなく、ビル自身によるスタジオアルバム、との比べての話。もっと言えば「欧州#1」の『LONELY IS THE WORD』ではまだパワフルで、ライヴならではのフィルも入れていたのですが、本作ではそれが激減しているのです。
さらに面白いのは、オジー時代のクラシックスになると一転して70年代を彷彿とさせる見事な歌心ドラミングな事。つまり、ビルが失踪したのはテクニックや健康ではなく、モチベーションだけが問題だった。ただただひたすら「70年代に戻りたい」「オジーが恋しい」と叫ぶようなドラミング。ここまで本音が演奏に表れる正直者も珍しいくらいです。
貴重なだけでなく、１公演１公演を比較する事で心理のウラまで透けるようなロニー／ビル時代。そのフルショウを味わえる傑作録音です。クオリティ的には十分にプレス級な新名盤です。どうぞ、じっくりとお楽しみください。
