Asia started a tour from Japan to commemorate the 30th anniversary of “XXX” and the 1st album in 2012. A must-have for fans who recorded the first 3 performances (Tokyo 2nd, Osaka) from the latest Japan tour, which had 2 performances in Tokyo and 4 performances in Osaka and Nagoya, in a set of 6 recordings of the finest audience from the original master. Osaka was the only and profitable day to listen to the surprise Ride Easy (band performance) and the rare songs of My Own Time all at once. (“You guys are the best” was only for 2 days in Tokyo, and for some reason there was no Osaka or Nagoya.) 2012年「XXX」と1stアルバムから30周年を記念してのツアーを日本からスタートしたエイジア。東京2公演、大阪・名古屋と合計4公演が行われた最新ジャパンツアーより、最初の3公演（東京2日、大阪）を、オリジナル・マスターより極上オーディエンス録音６枚組セットに収録した、ファン必携のタイトルが登場です。（最終日・名古屋公演に関しては、あの絶品録音盤イエス「Fly At Last」(4/19東京）をも音質的に上回るかと思える、奇跡の超高音質盤が、プレスCDにて近日リリース予定です。＊おそらくこれまで当店関連がリリースした全てのCDの中で最も音が良いです。）音質はどの公演も均等に優れており、近年のデジタルオーディエンス録音らしい、非常に煌びやかかつクリアーなサウンドが楽しめます。その中でも特に9月26日の大阪公演は、ボトムの効いた超高音質で収録されており、ファン絶対必聴のテイクになっています（音質はどれも高音質ですが、厳密には24≦25≦26の印象で、演奏内容も日ごとに良くなっているようです。）。日本ツアーの前にイギリスでのフェスにウォームアップ的に出ただけで実質、日本からツアーがスタートしたため、演奏内容に不安を感じるファンもいましたが、ふたを開けてみたら、とにかくウェットンが絶好調。１月のソロ、６月のUKと年内で３回目の来日で、どちらも調子は良かったのですが、今回のエイジア公演は、それを上回る近年で最高の調子の良さ！近年よくある、声がかすれる、裏返るということがほぼ皆無で、サプライズチョイスとなったMY OWN TIMEでの高いキーの部分をキープしているのはファンにとっては驚きで、まさに30年前と変わらない、より深みがある歌声を堪能することができました。通常はほぼ固定セットで行われるエイジアの日本公演ですが、今回は、全てのセットが微妙に異なるため、ファンにとっては非常に楽しめる内容でありました。相変わらず、キメの甘さや練習不足を感じさせる部分 （One Step Closerのハウのプレイ等）も多々あり、細かい事を言ったらきりがないのですが、この4人でなければ出せない、再現できない、独特の味わい、質感、ダルなアンサンブル、妙な安心感（「ま、いっかーみたいな」）こそがエイジアの魅力であり、行った誰もが「また来たら行きたい」と思う良質なコンサートではなかったかと思います。と同時に、70年代ロックの権化であるイエス、UK以上にポップでロックした、親しみやすいアンサンブル・楽曲は素晴らしく、メロディックで高品質なエイジアの楽曲とオリジナルな音の魅力に感動したファンも多かったのでないかと思います。東京初日は、近年のナンバーを6曲も披露（その内新作から3曲）、さらに後半では「アルファ」収録曲My Own Timeが披露され、ファンを喜ばせてくれました。2日目は、オールドファンには嬉しいファースト全曲演奏ライヴ。One Step Closer、Without You、Cutting It Fine、Here Comes The Feeling がまとめて聴けたのは、今年のツアーではこの日のみ。よって新曲は2曲のみでしたが、この日はあのRide Easyがバンドで演奏され、ファンをこれまた喜ばせてくれました。大阪は、今回のサプライズのRide Easy（バンド演奏）、My Own Timeのレア曲がまとめて聞けた唯一かつお得な日でありました。（「君たち最高だよ」は東京2日間のみ、で何故か大阪・名古屋はありませんでした。）あらゆる点から見て、非常に楽しめる満足出来るショウでファンを魅了してくれたエイジア2012年ツアー。高品質オリジナル音源を使用したファン必携の6枚組タイトルが限定リリース決定です。

結成30周年アニヴァーサリー・ワールド・ツアーのスタート地となった今回の来日公演から、初日の東京2days(24日・25日)＋大阪(26日)の3公演をカップリングした強烈な6枚組タイトル。残念ながら最終日の名古屋公演(27日)は含まれていないが、各日でセットリストをそれなりに変えてプレイしていた為、それぞれのディスクでバラエティに富んだ公演内容を楽しめるのが特徴のタイトルだ。特に25日の東京公演は1stアルバムの曲を(順番通りではないが)全曲披露するというコンセプトに基づいたプログラムだったため、特にユニークな公演内容になっている。しかし24日・26日も充実した演奏で書くべき事が多々あるので、各日でのポイントを挙げながら本作での聴き処を書いてみたい。
まず何といっても「My Own Time (I’ll Do What I Want)」。これは今回の来日では24日・26日のみで演奏された超目玉曲である。かつてWETTON-DOWNESとしては演奏された事があるが、この4人での演奏はバンド史上初。どちらの演奏も不安定さがやや目立つものの、メロウな音が揺らぎながら29年振りに披露される様子は感動的だ。「One Step Closer」と「Without You」は今回の日本公演では25日のみで聴けたレア曲。どちらも一回限りというのが勿体無いほど魅力的な演奏で、各楽器のサウンドと装飾音がリニューアルされ曲の印象がアップグレードしているのが実に面白い。特に「Without You」はその度合いが色濃く出ており、かつこの日本公演中屈指の名演奏。終曲部の音の散らし方にも是非注目して戴きたい。「Ride Easy」はファンが30年間待ち望んだバンド演奏版。これは25日と26日で聴けるが、やや不安定さを残しながらも30年振りに元の姿で披露される様子に胸を打たれること請け合いである。「Wildest Dreams」は後半のドラムソロで奇妙なブレイクが入らなくなった。つまるところ82年～83年のスタイル(※89年～90年も一応含む)に戻されている訳だが、これもまた「Ride Easy」と同様にこの4人による原点回帰を意図して元のイメージに戻した様な気がする。また細かい事だが、各日でこの後半ドラムソロが微妙に変化している点にも要注目だ。
「Time Again」は是非26日の演奏を聴いて戴きたい。他日のも良いがこの日は非常にワイルドで疾走感に溢れており聴き応え抜群である。曲中のピアノ＋シンバルが目立つ箇所(1分56秒付近～2分05秒付近、ほか)もブルージーで曲のメリハリが際立つ様になったし、コーラスも見事だ。「Cutting It Fine」は本作では25日でのみ聴けるが、この後の名古屋公演(27日)でも披露された。この曲もまたシンセの装飾音がリニューアルされて斬新な印象を放っていて、後半のボレロ部分の鮮烈さもオリジナル以上に鮮やかにグレードアップしており大きな聴き処となっている。”第二のWildest Dreams”とも言うべき「Holy War」も24日・26日共に素晴らしいアクションで耳を駆け抜けてゆくが、面白いのはどの日も「ドラソロが単体で披露」されていることだろう。これはバンド史上例の無い初の試みだ。特に特別プログラムの25日は「Cutting It Fine」の後にスタートというレアシーンとなっており、他日には無いユニークな流れが堪能出来る。
「Open Your Eyes」はキーボードがやや過剰とも思えるほど前面に出てくるスタイルへ変化。特に25日はPAのミスなのか意図的なのか分からないが耳をつんざく様なシンセサウンドが中盤～後半で強烈に鳴り響いていて、オリジナルの持っていた繊細でドラマチックな曲想とはまた違った次元へ押し上げているのが面白い。一方「Sole Survivor」も序盤からサウンドイメージが一新されているが、こちらはオリジナルの持つ魅力がより鮮烈になった。特にギターの音色が素晴らしく、どの日もオリジナルを重視して練り直されたその魅力溢れるサウンドに思わず唸ってしまう筈だ(中でも25日は格別の名演奏)。中間部へ移る箇所でシンセの音がなかなか出てこないシーンも実に印象的だ。「Heat Of The Moment」もマイナーチェンジして練り直されている感があり、特にダウンズがショルダー・キーボードを持たなくなった事によってオリジナルのスタジオ版に近いスタイルになっている。27日の名古屋公演ではショルキーを持ったそうだが、いずれにせよ原点に立ち返った演奏をする事で芯のある図太い全体音がより引き締まっているのが分かると思う。尚、全公演の冒頭SEはヘンデル作曲の歌劇『セルセ』からの一幕「Ombra mai fu (オンブラ・マイ・フ)」の一部分である。収録はオーディエンス録音だが透明度、中低音域のパンチ、音の近さなどどれを取っても最高レベルの音質で収録されており、音質面ではさほど問題無いと思う。もちろん全公演ノーカット完全収録である。
原点回帰…やはりコンセプトはこれだろう。「Ride Easy」がバンド演奏に戻されたのも、演奏方法を戻すこと＝バンドの原点に回帰する姿の隠喩になっている様にも思えるし、幾つかの曲(特に1stアルバムの曲)に原点回帰的な演奏音の再考と練り直しが念入りに施されている理由もこれなのだろう。本作は6枚組というボリューム感からそれらを俯瞰で見つめ直す優れた音源資料になっていると思う。また、全4公演のうち3公演がノーカットでパッケージされているのは本作のみ(10月中旬現在)なので、これは換え難い魅力だと思う。ファン必携盤だ。
