The early THE ALICE COOPER GROUP created a unique shock rock by bringing “horror” to rock. Introducing the finest professional shot collection that allows you to fully immerse yourself in their steps that have swept the world for about 4 hours.
This work contains 12 types, 46 takes, 3 hours 58 minutes 43 seconds of hidden treasure images. Speaking of professional shots in the group era, the masterpiece movie “GOOD TO SEE YOU AGAIN” in 1973 is a symbol, but the field of this work is “before that”. Since 1969, when he made his debut, he has exhausted the multi-camera pro shots just before reaching the peak with “Billion Dollar Babies” (more strictly speaking, until the leading single “Alice is the President”) with the highest quality. It’s a marvelous two-disc set.
The quality is the most important point, but this work is delicious because it is easy to see and understand. At that time, they were on sale, and there were a wide variety of video types. In this work, it is not simply arranged in chronological order, but is organized and recorded in “TV appearance” and “concert live”. Let’s introduce each one individually.
● DISC 1: First half: Main broadcast version (10 takes)
The first piece is a multi-camera pro shot when appearing on a TV program. It is not a concert broadcast in front of the audience, but a studio live with an in-station set. This section is further subdivided into two, the final version that was actually broadcast in the first half. The second half features more enthusiastic treasures such as different takes and unbroadcast songs that leaked in later years.
The first to appear is a professional shot of the main broadcast for 5 programs and 10 songs. As a matter of fact, all the videos are familiar to fans such as history videos, but the quality is not familiar. Only the second “DETROIT TUBEWORKS (1971)” has a slightly sweet analog image quality, so it is hard to say that it is “completely official grade”, but I would like to say the others. The image quality, including digital reruns and outflow of station masters, is superb, and even the downgraded “DETROIT TUBEWORKS” is arguably the highest ever, and it is the best version of “Black Juju” that has never been unsightly. ..
And, the real thrill of being able to witness the early Alice who just hit the world with that quality is irresistible. 24-year-old Alice is fiercely slim, and the members of her fateful community are also extremely youthful. Shock rock is still in the stage of trial and error, and it is interesting that electric chair performances and lame costumes evolve with each program.
● DISC 1 second half: another version (12 takes)
The second half was a collection of different versions that show the back side of such TV appearances. There is also a super-upgraded version of “DETROIT TUBEWORKS” “Reelin’In The Years Version (I could have made it into a press if I had all the songs …)”, but most of them are unbroadcast takes. You can see plenty of blue backs with a temporary background composition and different takes with different costumes from the main broadcast.
Especially interesting is “THE OLD GRAY WHISTLE TEST (1971)”. The unbroadcasted “Is It My Body” is also delicious, but more than that is the freshness of the unedited master! After all, suddenly “pee” noise & color bar. I wonder if the deck broke down, but even if Alice and his friends appeared, the performance was stopped many times and it was repeated again. A blackboard-type test board image is inserted to distinguish the take each time, and the snake is photographed silently, probably because it is for editing material. And the band is obviously sick enough to start over, and it’s funny that Alice is singing while chewing on “Let’s get rid of it …”.
And this other version collection is also super fine quality. The tension may be different between the TV appearance and the concert, but it is also a disc division to immerse yourself in this visual beauty. Even with this one piece, it is a video work that you can enjoy 1 hour and 43 minutes with the best.
[DISC 2: 1969-1972 concert video (6 performances, 24 songs)]The second piece contains plenty of stage pro shots, which is the original location, for about 2 hours and 16 minutes. In terms of quality, it is not as good as DISC 1, but it is still the best master you can hope for now. More than that, it’s a disc that dazzles you with its historical mood and preciousness.
● September 13, 1969: TORONTO ROCK N ROLL REVIVAL (1 song)
The first appearance is the very early stage, about 3 months after the release of “Pretty’s for You”. This is a professional shot when I performed at a festival in Toronto. Actually, this festival, the scene of the famous chicken incident. The performance was prepared by legendary manager Shep Gordon (who didn’t have a formal contract with Alice), tore the pillows stolen from the hotel, wrap feathers from the stage into the audience, and throw chickens. That’s right. The scene is also used for documentaries, etc., and I think some of you may have seen it in monochrome.
In this work, such historical moments are recorded in full color and in a long version of about 13 minutes. Exciting drum solos and avant-garde roars are scattered, Alice and Neil cause a big brawl, throw strange things into the audience one after another, and the feathers explode at the climax! It’s a legendary video that you can witness the ferociousness of the 1960s.
● June 13, 1970: CINCINNATI POP FESTIVAL (2 songs)
Next is a professional shot three months after the release of “Easy Action”. After playing “Black Juju”, I’m starting to see some scales, but it’s still exciting. The “Black Juju” was so intense that something (cake?) Was thrown from the audience during a performance like hypnotizing with a pocket watch and crashed into Alice’s face. She hits hard enough to make a “snap!” Sound, but Alice doesn’t move at all and she continues the show. She was probably not Shirafu, but … this is another must-see shocking video.
● July 4, 1971: Asbury Park performance (7 songs)
Alice, who signed a contract with a major Warner, has finally entered her golden age. This video is a monochrome pro shot that was very popular on the gift board “ASBURY PARK 1971” as “LOVE IT TO DEATH to see with the eyes” on the stage about 4 months after the release of “Eighteen”.
● November 2, 1971: Paris performance (3 songs)
The impact of shock rock crosses the ocean to Europe. This is a French TV special that reports on the first European performance that was realized three weeks before the release of “Killer”. Although the live is short because the interview is featured, the visual beauty with a film feeling is perfect even in DISC 2, and you can witness the electric chair performance of “Black Juju” beautifully.
● September 21, 1972: New York performance (5 songs)
The era of the blockbuster “Schools Out” is finally here. It is a multi-camera pro shot that you can witness the stage three months after the album was released. A different dimension of popularity is exploding, and Alice is rubbing from the beginning. “Gutter Cat vs. the Jets”, which is a brawl between members, is unique to the band era, and Alice’s hanging is finally here. The promotion of the next single “Alice is the President” released around this time is also being broadcast.
● November 13, 1972: Paris performance (6 songs)
Finally, I went to Paris again for the first time in a year. There are color and monochrome versions of this video, but in this work, it is recorded in a long monochrome version with good image quality. The time counter is also a vivid outflow professional shot.
Above, a collection of hidden treasure professional shots covering all 12 types and 46 takes. The ALICE COOPER GROUP, which has climbed to the peak in this way, arrives at the legendary “GOOD TO SEE YOU AGAIN”. In addition to this, there are many detailed images such as West Germany images where music is not heard well by narration, Hollywood performances shot for promotion, and Toronto where 8 mm was excavated. Therefore, this work is not titled “COMPLETE”, but it is a 2-disc set that covers almost all the initial pro shots that can be enjoyed as a musical difference and can run side by side with them who ran up the stairs of success.
Each one is Tokuno, a total of 4 hours of video blockbuster. A historic decisive board that turns your shelf into a shock rock museum. Please enjoy yourself to your heart’s content!
★★ A decisive board gathered by the highest peak master from the debut in 1969 to just before reaching the peak in “Billion Dollar Babies”.
