メガレア・ヴィンテージ・アナログ盤を原盤からダイレクトにデジタル化し、リマスター収録したバージョンをメインに近年流通したオーディエンス録音をも駆使し、ヴァンクーヴァー公演を複数のバージョンで総括収録したタイトル。
Pbを現時点で様々な面を考慮し形にするならば最低限必要と思われるバージョンを3枚のCDに収録(しかも値段は1枚物での据え置き価格！)した’70年ヴァンクーヴァー公演の決定盤！

オリジナルの”Pb”LP盤(マトリクスSS-19446-1〜2 / PB 1/2 /Side 1/2 ←これ自体があまり情報ないです)は、こげ茶色の味わい深い質感のジャケに”Pb”とスタンプされただけの、最初期アナログ盤らしく非常にシンプルで質素なものですが、謎めいていてインパクト十分！レコード・ラベルはこのLP用にデザインされたと思しき黄色に黒文字のカスタムレーベル(ラベル画像はジャケにも掲載しております)。
“Pb”の現物は滅多に流通することのない激レア盤であり、恐らくオリジナルスタンパーからの再発もないと思われ(しかし、溝のサイズが異なるものが存在します）、そのため殆どのファンは”Pb”よりもそのコピー盤であるTMOQの”MUDSLIDE”(LZ 112。TMOQの100番台はコピー盤ということも近年明らかになってきました)またはそれの再発盤等で接しているファンが大半でしょう。この辺りの状況(オリジナルをコピー盤が数で凌駕してしまう。)はビートルズの最初期LP、”KUM BACK”(ステレオ青スタンプをモノラルの赤スタンプが凌駕)にもちょっと似ているなと思います。もっとも、PbとMUDSLIDEの関係(MUDSLIDEはPbのコピー)について明確になってきたのも近年になってからのことではないでしょうか。

そんなオリジナル盤のPbとMUDSLIDEの音の違い(または関連性)について触れた記述自体が過去に殆どないようなので、ここで簡単に触れておきますと、まずPbが一応ステレオのラインであり、全般的には残響音が左右から聞こえるようなラフな印象のステレオであるのに対し、MUDSLIDEは完全なモノラルのラインであり、一聴してその違いは明らか。Pbのサウンドが位相がズレたような、どこかフワフワとした印象のステレオサウンドであるのに対し、MUDSLIDEは完全にモノラルに落とし込まれてセンターに演奏が定位している分、逆に潔くスッキリと聞こえるのも確かなのですが、音の迫力はさすがにPbの方が明らかに上であり、特にイントロのロバートの”Everybody feel alright?”からのドラムのドンドン！ダダンダダン・・・！の辺りはPbの方はカッティングレベルの高さが本当に尋常ではない凄まじさであり、迫力の違いは明らかに天と地ほどの差があります。それに比べるとMUDSLIDEの何とも大人しく、こじんまりしたサウンドよ。。二つの音質差に関しては、このイントロの時点で既に勝負ありと言ったところ。

収録内容的には、実際のライブとは異なる曲順で収録されているのはPbもMUDSLIDEも同じですが、レコードのA面最後の終わり方に大きな違いがあります。ここはPbの方が長く収録されており、3曲目What Is And-の演奏がダラダン！とドラムで終わったあとにPbでは5秒ほど演奏の余韻と歓声が収録されているのに対し、MUDSLIDEはダラダン！と最後のドラムが鳴った直後でA面がバッサリと終わってしまっており、Pbに収録されていた演奏の余韻と歓声がMUDSLIDEには収録されておらず、演奏もギリギリカットアウトと言ったところ。ここがPbとMUDSLIDEの一番分かりやすい違いになるかも知れません。

そんなわけで、コピー云々はともかくとしてTMOQ盤の功績(？)により有名となったライブだけあり(？)、コレクターCDの黎明期からこのヴァンクーヴァー公演はリリースされています。NZCDのClassics Off The Air Volume One(4曲のみ収録)などのほか、全曲(7曲収録)の最初期リリースの代表盤は恐らくアメリカFlying DiscからリリースされたMUDSLIDE(CD 6 – 808)でしょう。しかしこのCD、あまり知られていないかも知れませんが、そのタイトルに反して中身に関してはLP “MUDSLIDE”ではなく何と”Pb”からのコピーでした。その特徴的なステレオサウンドと、先に述べたWhat Is And-の終わり方を聞くとすぐに分かります。もっとも、素材や情報の揃った今だから分かることではあるのですが。。。ちなみにそのFlying Disc盤はPbをコピーしたところまでは良いのですが、スクラッチノイズにまでヘンテコなリバーブエコー処理がなされており、明らかに不自然な残念サウンドでした。

90年代半ばになると旧タラやTDOLZ、LSDなど複数のレーベルからも「テープ起こし」との触れ込みによるリリースが主流となりましたが、オリジナルPbと比べると明らかに音は遠く及ばずと言った印象で、改めて聞いてみると、これら「テープ起こし」という触れ込みの一連の音源は現在ネット上にも5th Genが流通していますが、冷静に聞いてみると、実はPb LPのコピーに強烈ノイズリダクションを施しダビングを重ねたテープがその正体にも思えてきたりします(真偽不明)。

また近年ではそれら音の劣るテープバージョンを利用して実際のライブ演奏順に並べ替えたアイテムが出たほか、オリジナルからのリッピングとの触れ込みでPbをデジタル化した音源もネット上に現れ、それを使ったプレス盤もリリースされ、さらには音質は厳しく短時間ながらもオーディエンス録音もネット上に初登場しました。

今回はこれら既発アイテムの特徴も考慮しつつ、70年3月21日カナダ・ヴァンクーヴァー公演をできうる限り総括すべく、複数バージョンにて3枚のCDに収録したアイテムとなります。

1枚目はPb原盤と近年ネットに登場したオーディエンス録音をそれぞれリマスター収録。Pbは先にも触れた通りネットからではなく激レアな現物からの収録。ピンポイントによるノイズリダクションを施した上で、原盤では音量の小さいWhole Lotta LoveやWe’re Gonna Groove中盤以降で音量の落ちる箇所などを違和感のないように補正したほか、全体的に音量を調整し聞きやすくしました。近年ネットに上がったPbリッピングバージョンではかなりレベルオーバー気味の派手目なサウンドでしたが、本盤ではリマスターと言えども、やり過ぎない程度の音量調整に留めています。
後半に収録のオーディエンス録音はネットにて初登場したもので、それを使用。モノラル録音なので、元々異様に偏っていた音像定位を修正しました。さらにピッチも適正に修正しましたが、元々跳ねるような音ヨレの目立つ音源だったため、とくに幻惑にて15箇所ほどですが違和感のないように音ヨレ補正してますので、その点でも既発に比べ若干聞きやすくはなっています。31分ちょっとの収録時間であり、Pb同様ライブ全編にはほど遠く、Pbとも重複する演奏もあり、初登場ライブはI Can’t Quit You Baby、幻惑とハートブレイカーのイントロのみですが、ライブイントロ部分を(途中カットがあるものの)Pbよりも長く収録しているのは特筆すべき点で、Pbのイントロ部分の編集のカラクリを解明してくれました。

2枚目前半はPb原盤のリマスターの曲順並べ替えバージョン。過去にHOUSE OF ELROND盤とSUGAR MAMA盤でそれなりになされていた手法ですが、それら既発では音の劣るテープバージョンをベースに並べ替えを行ったものでした。今回初めて原盤からの並べ替えバージョンとなります。何もそこまでしなくてもと思われるファンもいるとは思いますが、例のイントロからWe’re Gonna Grooveへの流れは案外新鮮です。
2枚目後半にはPb原盤のRAWバージョンを収録。ピンポイントのノイズリダクションとピッチ修正はDisc1の前半同様行っておりますが、リダクションはDisc1前半同様に音色に影響を与えるような膜を張ってごまかすような処理ではありませんのでご安心下さい。その他必要最小限の音量調整のみで、Pb原盤にもっとも近い、殆どそのままのサウンドが確認できる資料的価値を求めるファン向きのセクションです。トレースノイズも若干長めに収録。

3枚目はPb原盤のリマスターとオーディエンス録音を駆使してライブ最長バージョンを再現したもの。
このコンセプトでは過去にCD化はされておらず、ネットの中途半端なファン編集アイテムが2タイトル存在。
今回は極力”Pb”LPを優先した編集でライブ最長を再現。あくまで最長であり、全長ではありませんのであしからず。ライブ開始前のイントロの繋ぎは苦心物です(先述の通りオーディエンス録音のイントロにはカットがある事が判明)、もちろんハートブレイカーのイントロも完成版になり収録。
Pbのサウンドとオーディエンス録音の間にかなりの音質差があるので、この3枚目の部分はあくまでボーナス的な扱いのディスクです。

CDレーベル面はPb LP風の黄色いカスタムレーベルをモチーフにした仕様。
限定番号(1-300)入りステッカー(ステッカーの絵柄はMUDSLIDE繋がりで)がケース前面に添付される仕様です。
