Yngwie Malmsteen in 1998 who returned to Japan with the dignified and strict masterpiece “FACING THE ANIMAL”. A new excavation recording that allows you to experience the scene at its best will be released for the first time in the world. Introducing a press 2CD that permanently preserves the shining sound of the original DAT master.
This week, four original recordings of “INSPIRATION Tour” and “FACING THE ANIMAL Tour” will appear for the first time, but this work is the masterpiece of the latter. It is a transcendental audience recording of “April 17, 1998: Aichi Welfare Pension Hall” accompanied by a master singer who is also whispered as “hidden top talent”: Mats Levin. Speaking of the Mats era, the official live album “LIVE !!” is also famous, so let’s first organize the positional relationship between each other from the overall tour image.

This is Yngwie in 1997/1998. At that time, expectations were high for the project “New Century” with the orchestra, but in the meantime, “FACING THE ANIMAL” was also announced. In addition to the participation of Cozy Powell, the majestic songwriting and heroic Mats singing voice were also wonderful, and it was a masterpiece that told how Yngwie was brilliant at the time. Cozy did not participate in the tour, but the misfortune that the performance in Japan strangely begins on the anniversary of Cozy’s death. The Nagoya performance of this work was the 9th concert.
This vacuum-packed version of such a show is exactly the best recording with “super”. It is the first appearance master brought by its own route, but it is already outrageous. The core is very thick, there is no sense of distance at all, and the details are super clear… The enthusiasm is too real (the customer on the right side is a bit annoying), so I wouldn’t mistake it for a sound board, but the performance sound and vocals are completely official grade … …. The sound of the official version “LIVE!!” is farther.
A neo-classical metal paradise colored by Mats’ heroic voice is drawn with such a thick direct sound. The rival of this work can only be the official edition “LIVE !!”, so let’s let the set compete here.

これが1997年／1998年のイングヴェイ。当時はオーケストラとの共演プロジェクト『新世紀』への期待が高まっていたわけですが、その製作の合間を縫うようにして『FACING THE ANIMAL』も発表。コージー・パウエルの参加に加え、威厳のある曲想やヒロイックなマッツの歌声も素晴らしく、いかに当時のイングヴェイが才気走っていたかを物語る名作でした。コージーはツアーには不参加だったわけですが、日本公演は奇しくもそのコージーの命日に始まるという悲運。本作の名古屋公演はその９公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウを真空パックした本作は、まさに「超」つきの極上録音。独自ルートでもたらされた初登場マスターなのですが、もうとんでもない。芯は極太だわ、距離感はまったくないわ、ディテールは超鮮明だわ……。熱狂があまりにもリアル（右側の客がちょっとウザい）なだけにサウンドボードと間違えたりはしませんが、演奏音もヴォーカルも完全オフィシャル級………と言いますか、エフェクトでエコー感を出している公式盤『LIVE!!』の方が音が遠いくらいです。
それほどの極太ダイレクト・サウンドで描かれるのは、マッツのヒロイック・ヴォイスで彩られたネオクラシカル・メタルの桃源郷。本作のライバルは公式盤『LIVE!!』しかあり得ませんので、ここでセットも勝負させておきましょう。

もちろん、この方が断然イイ。何しろ、マッツの歌が素晴らしいのなんの。ハスキーな声質のせいか純ネオクラ派からのウケは今イチだったりしますが、誰の曲でも難なく歌いこなす歌唱力は歴代屈指。いや実際、ここまで完璧に歌いきったのはマーク・ボールズとマッツだけではないでしょうか。しかも、その歌いっぷりは凛としてパワフル。現在的に言うなら、まるでロニー・ロメロのようでもあります。
「オペラティックなマーク・ボールズ」に対して「メタリックなマッツ・レヴィン」。ネオクラ感で言えばNo.1シンガーはマークなのでしょうが、ポップ曲までヒロイックに歌いこなす万能感ではマッツこそがNo.1でしょう。本作、そんな陰の実力者によって染め変えられた名曲群をオフィシャル級サウンドで楽しめてしまう脅威の新発掘ライヴアルバムです。私たちに日本人にとって特別な想い出でもありますが、それ以上に世界に誇れる日本発の傑作アルバム。どうぞ、永久保存プレス２CDで存分にお楽しみください！

A total of 14 performances. Four performances were organized in Tokyo alone, and this work was the last day. This work, which vacuum-packed such a scene, is a very wonderful audience shot. The shot is taken from the left side of the stage, but perhaps because the handrail at the front of the second floor stand is used as a tripod, there is a shadow at the bottom of the screen, but instead there is no shadow in the front row and only the stage is directly visible. to go into. Either solidify that position, or the first song “Braveheart” may frame out, but once it solidifies, you can fully enjoy it with a sense of stability without camera shake even with a bold zoom.
And that powerful zoom is wonderful. It approaches Yngwie’s waist up, but it is absurdly beautiful due to the vivid master freshness on top of the sense of stability. Of course, since it is an analog shot, the digital image quality is not good, but when you get close, you can clearly see everything from the acoustic guitar string 1 to the swaying long hair. In particular, “Heaven Tonight” is not only valuable but also has the best content, and the singing voice that makes a pop masterpiece into a tough and wild rock number is like Ronnie Romero or Steve Lee’s GOTTHARD. It was a unique type in Yngwie’s history, but it shows off a unique brilliance.
Return it back, I regret missing three songs. The basic quality of this work is so wonderful that it is a masterpiece shot that is regrettable to ignore. 以上、全14公演。東京だけでも４公演が組まれ、本作はその最終日でした。そんな現場を真空パックした本作は、非常に素晴らしいオーディエンス・ショット。ステージ左寄りから撮影されているのですが、２階スタンド最前の手すりを三脚代わりにしているのか、画面下に影が入るものの、その代わりに前列の影もなく遮蔽物ナシでステージだけが直接目に入る。そのポジションを固めるか、１曲目の「Braveheart」ではフレームアウトすることもあるものの、一度固まってしまえば果敢なズームでも手ブレなしの安定感でたっぷりと楽しめるのです。
そして、その強力なズームが素晴らしい。イングヴェイのウェスト・アップにまでグイッと迫るのですが、安定感の上に鮮やかなマスター鮮度によってやけに美しい。もちろん、アナログ撮影ですのでデジタル画質はいきませんが、最接近するとアコースティック・ギターの弦１から揺れる長髪に至るまで鮮明に見えるのです。ただし惜しむらくは完全映像ではないこと。アンコール前に３曲＋鍵盤ソロがカットされているのです。では、本作で期待できる曲はどんなものか。ここで整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。本編プレス２CDで聴けないような日替わり曲はないものの、今となっては貴重な『FACING THE ANIMAL』や『LIVE!!』で観られなかった「Heaven Tonight」が押さえられるのは嬉しい。特に「Heaven Tonight」は貴重度だけでなく中身も最高で、ポップな名曲をタフでワイルドなロックナンバーに仕上げてみせる歌声は、ロニーロメロか、スティーヴ・リー時代のGOTTHARDのようですらある。イングヴェイの歴史では異色のタイプではありましたが、それだけに他にはない輝きを見せつけてくれます。
返す返す、３曲分の撮影漏れが悔やまれる。それほどまでに本作の基本クオリティが素晴らしく、無視するには惜しい傑作ショットなのです。ルーツやコンツェルトを経験し、同郷スウェーデンのシンガーを迎えて勇壮な新世界を拓いた1998年のイングヴェイ。そのライヴ・イン・ジャパンを極上体験できる豪華セット。どうぞ、合わせてたっぷりとお楽しみください。
