The legendary “ARMS Concert” where the three major guitarists shared the stage for the first time. The final day video that will be paired with the official London performance will be released as a gift.
“December 9, 1983 New York performance” is included in this work. This is a multi-camera pro shot taken at the iconic large venue “Madison Square Garden”. The most famous footage of the “ARMS Concert” is the official professional shot taken at the traditional London venue “Royal Albert Hall”, but there are several other footage. It’s also a good opportunity, so let’s organize the video collection from the whole schedule.

Above, 2 performances in the UK + 9 performances in the US = 11 performances in total. The “ARMS Concert” is a charity event designed to save Ronnie Lane, who suffered from multiple sclerosis, and was originally planned for only two performances in London. However, due to the success of the London performance, it also developed into a US tour. All 11 performances mentioned above have been realized. Among them, 4 performances were left with professional shot images. While the official video was “UK, first day”, this work is the exact opposite “US, last day”.
This work that conveys such a last show is unique in terms of quality. Although it is a multi-camera pro shot, unlike the completed ski work and TV broadcast, the time counter that seems to be in the process of editing is also a vivid outflow master. Also, editing is not perfect. The switching and mixing are great enough, but it’s not a complete recording of the event. The show consists of “Eric Clapton-> Jeff Beck-> Jimmy Page-> Co-starring section”, but the first 7 songs are completely missing on the Clapton stage, and it starts from the middle of “Cocaine” (Joe Cocker) 6 songs co-starring with are recorded). Also, “April Fool” is missing in the last co-star section, and I suddenly jump to “Good night Irene” from the ending of “With A Little Help From My Friends”. However, although it is not complete, 22 of the 30 songs played on the day are recorded, and you can witness all the songs on the Jeff Beck / Jimmy Page stage.
And the content is also different from the UK edition. Beck’s “Definitely Maybe,” “Blue Wind,” “Going Down,” Page’s “Boogie Mama,” “Midnight Moonlight,” and other songs that couldn’t be heard at the London performances will be performed, but more than that are the participating musicians. Instead of Steve Winwood, who was active in the UK edition, Joe Cocker on the Clapton stage and Paul Rodgers on the Page stage. In addition, guest Ronnie Wood will appear in the highlight “Goodnight Irene” on this day.

そんな本作に収められているのは「1983年12月９日ニューヨーク公演」。象徴的な大会場“マディソン・スクエア・ガーデン”で撮影されたマルチカメラ・プロショットです。「ARMSコンサート」でもっとも有名な映像はロンドンの伝統会場“ロイヤル・アルバート・ホール”で撮影された公式プロショットですが、他にも映像は数種存在します。良い機会でもありますので、全日程から映像コレクションを整理してみましょう。

以上、英国２公演＋米国９公演＝全11公演。「ARMSコンサート」とは多発性硬化症に蝕まれたロニー・レインを救うために企画されたチャリティ・イベントで、当初はロンドン２公演だけの予定でした。しかし、ロンドン公演が成功したために米国ツアーにも発展。上記の全11公演が実現したわけです。その中でプロショット映像が残されたのは４公演。公式映像が「英国・初日」だったのに対して本作は真逆の「米国・最終日」なのです。
そんなラスト・ショウを伝える本作は、クオリティ的にも個性的。マルチカメラ・プロショットではあるのですが、完成されたこうスキー作品やＴＶ放送物とは違い、編集作業中と思われるタイム・カウンターも生々しい関係者流出マスターなのです。また、編集も完璧ではない。スイッチングやミックスは十分に素晴らしいものの、イベントの完全収録ではないのです。ショウは「エリック・クラプトン→ジェフ・ベック→ジミー・ペイジ→共演セクション」という構成なのですが、このうちクラプトン・ステージで冒頭７曲がばっさり抜けており、「Cocaine」の途中からスタート（ジョー・コッカーとの共演６曲は収録しています）。また、最後の共演セクションでも「April Fool」が欠けており、「With A Little Help From My Friends」のエンディングからいきなり「Goodnight Irene」へ飛んでしまいます。しかし、完全形ではないとは言っても当日演奏された全30曲中22曲は収録され、ジェフ・ベック／ジミー・ペイジのステージは全曲目撃できます。
そして、内容も英国編とは異なる。ベックの「Definitely Maybe」「Blue Wind」「Going Down」やペイジの「Boogie Mama」「Midnight Moonlight」など、ロンドン公演では聴けなかった曲も演奏されますが、それ以上なのが参加ミュージシャン。英国編で活躍したスティーヴ・ウィンウッドが不参加の代わりに、クラプトンのステージでジョー・コッカー、ペイジのステージでポール・ロジャースが参加。さらに、この日はハイライトの「Goodnight Irene」にゲストのロン・ウッドも登場します。

３大ギタリスト揃い踏みで歴史に名を残した「ARMSコンサート」。その最後のショウを約２時間13分に渡って楽しめるマルチカメラ・プロショットです。ロイヤル・アルバート・ホール公演のオフィシャル映像が最重要ではありますが、本作は対照的でありつつ同じくらいに重要な映像作品。この機会にじっくりと帰って頂きたい歴史的な１枚です。
