Early VAN HALEN master excavation series “Eddie, Steady, Go!”, which is attracting attention as “Official Audience Master Tape”. The latest bullet is here.
“Eddie, Steady, Go!” is an original cassette excavation project by the prestigious “JEMS”. It is not just a simple excavation, but the time and roots are limited, and the live album of “UK tour immediately after debut” is being released. This UK tour has long been known as a mass production area for super-famous recordings, but it seems that the cause was in the history of recording. The reason is that the cassette group discovered by “JEMS” has the name of Pete Angelus, who is known as the fifth member, and apparently the management had the staff record it for materials.
At our shop, we have introduced masterpieces such as “DEFINITIVE NEWCASTLE 1978 (Zodiac 550)” and “HANLEY 1978 (Zodiac 566)” from such a master excavation series, and this is the latest release. It is a powerful audience recording of “Bristol performance on May 26, 1978”. In addition, their first UK tour produced not only audience recordings but also a large number of world-famous soundboard groups. All 21 performances above. Although it was the opening act for BLACK SABBATH, they carried out a large-scale tour that would be the best in their career. VAN HALEN performed 44 UK performances during his long career, but he folded about half of them at once. The Bristol performance of this work was the ninth performance concert that will be the return.
As avid collectors may have already noticed, this show is also famous for its excellent recordings. It has been popular as part of “U.K. TOUR 1978 (Shade 903)” at our shop. This work is also the same traditional recording, and it is a signature product that was created from the original cassette. The sound is extremely fresh and fresh. As a matter of fact, in this excavation, it was found that the “UK TOUR 1978” version was also quite close to the master, and it is as wonderful as this work. However, the feel of the sound is different, and this work has a direct feeling that is closer and closer.
The reason for this is the freshness of the original master, but it may also be related to the fact that this work is monaural. This is also the most mysterious this time, but in fact it was stereo in the “UK TOUR 1978” master. There is a possibility that it was made into a product and released to the public when excavating the original master this time (there are rare cases where it is made into a product to reduce noise), but perhaps the master was stereo-processed in the process of distribution. not. In any case, there is no doubt that this new master is more on and powerful, and you can feel the original VAN HALEN even closer.
Such an upgraded sound alone is delicious enough, but this time the original master is also long. The cheers of the encore part and after the performance are only recorded for about one minute longer, but this is not to be underestimated. Especially the point is after the performance, the person who seems to be the recording person and his acquaintance are talking to the microphone. The owner of this voice is the aforementioned Pete Angelus himself. Pete is also the lighting director on set and has complained about someone cheating on site. This is also evidence of the “official audience”, and it is also a hidden listening point of this work.
The legendary UK tour that sparked a guitar revolution and ate up even the original Sabbath. This work is not the best masterpiece of tour No. 1, but I would like to experience the site famous for history as many times as possible. 当店では、そんなマスター発掘シリーズから『DEFINITIVE NEWCASTLE 1978（Zodiac 550）』『HANLEY 1978（Zodiac 566）』といった名作をご紹介してきましたが、本作はその最新弾。「1978年５月26日ブリストル公演」の強力オーディエンス録音です。また、彼ら初の英国ツアーはオーディエンス録音だけでなく世界的に有名なサウンドボード群も大量に生まれている。まずは、日程でそのコレクションを整理しておきましょう。

以上の全21公演。BLACK SABBATHの前座ではあるものの、キャリア随一となる大規模ツアーを実施。VAN HALENは長いキャリアの間に44回のイギリス公演を行ったわけですが、その約半分を一気に畳みかけたのです。本作のブリストル公演は、その折り返しとなる９公演目のコンサートでした。
熱心なコレクター諸兄ならもうお気づきとは思いますが、このショウは以前から名録音が残された事でも有名。当店でも『U.K. TOUR 1978（Shade 903）』の一部として親しまれてきました。本作も同じ伝統録音であり、その大元カセットから起こされた銘品なのです。そのサウンドは極めてフレッシュで瑞々しい。実のところ、今回の発掘で『U.K. TOUR 1978』版もかなりマスターに近かった事が分かり、本作にも負けず劣らず素晴らしい。ただ音の感触は異なり、本作の方がグッとオンで間近なダイレクト感が宿っているのです。
その要因は大元マスターだからこその瑞々しさにあるわけですが、さらに本作がモノラルであることも関係があるでしょう。これが今回で一番のナゾでもあるのですが、実は『U.K. TOUR 1978』マスターではステレオだったのです。今回の大元マスター発掘にあたってモノ化して公開した可能性もあります（ノイズを減らす為にモノ化するケースも希にあります）が、もしかしたら従来マスターは流通の過程でステレオ加工されていたのかも知れません。いずれにせよ、今回の新マスターの方がオンでパワフル、そして一層間近にオリジナルVAN HALENを感じられるのは間違いありません。
そんなアップグレード・サウンドだけでも十分に美味しいのですが、今回の大元マスターは長尺でもある。アンコール部の歓声や終演後に約１分ずつ長く収録されているだけなのですが、これが侮れない。特にポイントなのが終演後でして、録音者と思しき人物とその知人がマイクに向かって話しているのです。この声の主こそ、前述したピート・アンジェラスその人。ピートは現場で照明ディレクターも務めており、会場内で不正を働いた人物についての文句を言っている。これも「公式オーディエンス」の証拠であり、本作の隠れた聴きどころでもあるのです。
ギター革命を巻き起こし、オリジナル・サバスさえも食ってしまったという伝説の英国ツアー。本作はツアーNo.1の最高傑作ではありませんが、歴史に名高い現場は１回でも多く体験したいもの。本作は、その望みを叶える関係者録音の大元マスター。どうぞ、今週もじっくりとご堪能ください。
