VAN HALEN history … No, the glorious “1984 Tour”, which is the monument of rock history. A new master piece that permanently preserves the full show is now available.
“February 14, 1984 Charlotte performance” is engraved on this work. It is the best audience recording. Speaking of 1984, despite the climax during the climax, the era of the big hole where neither the full sound board nor the pro shot were left. This is the 1984 VAN HALEN. Roughly divided into “North America of the full set” and “Europe of the Monsters Of Rock tour”, the former is particularly popular. The US tour can be roughly divided into four parts across the off, and the Charlotte performance of this work was the 19th performance of “North America # 1”, which is the earliest among them (By the way, two weeks ago [February 1] Recordings have been left at the same venue, but this work is on the second day).
Such a show is also known for having left a famous recording that represents the beginning of the tour, and this work is the highest peak of that famous recording. It is a picture B strike master brought from the core collector by its own route, but this is really wonderful. In fact, it is a famous recording that has been uploaded to Youtube, but I would like you to listen to it and do not despise it. Although this work has the same recording, the quality is completely different. In the first place, it is a full recording as long as 19 minutes (there is a tape change cut in the middle of “Oh, Pretty Woman”, but there is no other missing), and the sound is incomparably good.
“The sound is clear and powerful.” Although it is not a type that can be mistaken for a sound board in terms of timbre, it does not have a sense of distance or a sense of distance. In particular, Dave’s vocals are vivid like a sound board and each word of the lyrics is clear. Of course, it is just that the vocal taste is outstanding, and there is no complaint about the performance sound. Even if the performances of three people are intertwined, they do not mix, and the outline is vivid. Depending on the previous release, there were masters with strong hiss, but this work is sunny and there is no need to worry about that. Although it sucks in the climax of enthusiasm, it is also strangely distant, and the powerful performance sound is felt much closer.
A full show with a lot of mood that can only be seen at the beginning of the tour is depicted with such a direct sound. As mentioned above, the US tour is popular with a longer full set than the “MONSTERS OF ROCK Tour”. Let’s put things in order here.

The set itself is the same as the masterpieces “SAN DIEGO 1984 1ST NIGHT (Zodiac 425)” and “DEFINITIVE MADISON 1984 (Zodiac 525)”, but the atmosphere of the performance is quite different. What can I say, compared to the other performances of the “1984 Tour” that were blown away at high tempo, this day is looser. Of course, the pitch is right, so this is the truth of the scene. It’s close to the original studio work, and while it’s dynamic in a good way, it can also feel a little bland.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a dull show with low tension. Rather, it bursts out with tremendous spirit here and there. Is Eddie’s guitar solo the best? It’s long anyway. Although it usually exceeds 10 minutes, this day will be a particularly long 16 minute long performance. Moreover, the content is also played and knocked down, and it is the amount of heat that makes you want to ask, “Did something happen in the dressing room?”
Each one is a cultural heritage “1984 Tour” album, and it is a new masterpiece that allows you to enjoy a full show with an unusual atmosphere. これが1984年のVAN HALEN。大雑把に「フルセットの北米」と「Monsters Of Rockツアーの欧州」に二分され、特に人気が高いのは前者。全米ツアーもオフを挟んで４つに大別でき、本作のシャーロット公演はその中でも最も初期となる「北米#1」の19公演目にあたるコンサートでした（ちなみに２週間前［２月１日］の同会場でも録音が残されていますが、本作は２日目の方です）。
そんなショウはツアー序盤を代表する名録音が残された事でも知られており、本作はその名録音の最高峰盤。独自ルートでコア・コレクターからもたらされた絵Bスト・マスターなのですが、これが実に実に素晴らしい。実のところ、Youtubeにもアップされているほどの有名録音だったりするのですが、それを聴いて侮らないでいただきたい。本作は録音は同じでも、クオリティはまったくの別物級。そもそも19分も長いフル収録です（「Oh, Pretty Woman」の途中でテープチェンジのカットがありますが、他に欠けはありません）し、サウンドも比べものにならないほど良いのです。
そのサウンドはクリアで力強い。音色的にサウンドボードと間違えるタイプではないものの、かと言ってスカスカ感や距離感がまるでない。特にデイヴのヴォーカルはサウンドボードのように鮮やかで歌詞の一語一語まではっきりクッキリ。もちろん、ヴォーカルのスゴ味が目立つというだけであって、演奏音にも文句なし。三者三様の演奏が絡み合っても混じり合わず、輪郭まで鮮やか。既発によってはヒスの強いマスターもあったのですが、本作はサッと晴れていてその心配もない。絶頂の大熱狂も吸い込んではいますが、それも妙に遠く、力強い演奏音の方が遙かに間近に感じられるのです。
そんなダイレクト・サウンドで画かれるのは、ツアー序盤だからこそのムードたっぷりのフルショウ。前述のように全米ツアーは“MONSTERS OF ROCK Tour”よりも長いフルセットで人気。ここでその内容を整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。セット自体は名作『SAN DIEGO 1984 1ST NIGHT（Zodiac 425）』『DEFINITIVE MADISON 1984（Zodiac 525）』と同じなのですが、演奏の雰囲気はだいぶ違う。何と言いますか、“1984 Tour”の他公演がハイテンポでかっ飛ばして気味なのに比べると、この日はゆるめ。もちろん、ピッチは合っているので、これが現場の真実。オリジナルのスタジオ作に近く良く言えばダイナミックな一方、ともすれば大味にも感じられます。
カン違いしないで頂きたいのは、テンションの低いダルいショウというわけではない。むしろ、ところどころで凄まじい気迫も吹き出す。一番はエディのギターソロでしょうか。とにかく長い。普段から10分超えしていますが、この日は特に長く16分に渡る大熱演をブチかます。しかも、その内容も弾きに弾いて弾き倒し、その思わず「楽屋でなんかあったの？」と訊きたくなるほどの熱量なのです。
１本１本が文化遺産急な“1984 Tour”アルバムであり、普段とは一風変わった雰囲気のフルショウを味わえる新名盤です。ツアー序盤を代表する名録音の最長／最高峰マスターを永久保存するプレス２CD。どうぞ、心ゆくまで存分に味わい尽くしてください。
