Van Halen / Charlotte 1982 / 2CD / ZODIAC
Charlotte Coliseum, Charlotte, NC, USA 17th July 1982
VAN HALEN of the “DIVER DOWN” era, who expected a further leap forward and strengthened the gorgeous entertainment color. A new masterpiece that tells the beginning of the tour, which was an irregular set, is now available.
“July 17, 1982 Charlotte performance” is imbued in this work. It is an excellent audience recording. Speaking of “HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour 1982/1983”, historical US festivals and South American pro shots are symbols, and when it comes to audience recordings, our press masterpiece “MONTREAL 1982 (Zodiac 103)” is the standard. This work is a different leg from any of them, so let’s first look at the schedule at the time and check the positional relationship of each.
● 1982
《“DIVER DOWN” released on April 14》
・July 14-August 21: North America #1 (26 performances) ← Coco
・ September 1-25: North America # 2 (17 performances)
・ October 7-December 11: North America # 3 (38 performances) ← * MONTREAL 1982
● 1983

・May 29: Appearance at US Festival
This is VAN HALEN in the “DIVER DOWN” era. The US festival and the South American pro shot were only in 1983, but the main part of the tour was only in 1982. The Charlotte performance of the special Japanese work was a concert that was the third performance in the early stage.
This work, which conveys such a show, is a treasured master brought by the same route as “CHARLOTTE 1984 (Zodiac 597)”, which will be released at the same time (I guess, but from the sound, the recording person may be the same), but 1984 Unlike the annual version, this recording has not been generally known until now. However, it is an incredibly wonderful clear recording. It’s not a close-fitting feeling that can be mistaken for a sound board, but the air is clear and transparent, and the core that penetrates the middle of it jumps straight in cleanly. No dubbing marks or aging deterioration can be seen, the details are well drawn to the edge, the vocals never mix even if Dave and Michael are intertwined, and the lyrics are clear word by word. While absorbing the enthusiasm towards the peak, it does not interfere with the sound of the performance strangely, and you can immerse yourself in the clearness of your heart.
What’s more, the deep bass is also vivid. Speaking of the base of the large venue audience, it will either be empty or cracked by the explosion. This work is neither of them, the attack sound is powerful and powerful, yet there is no reverberation and each sound is clear. It is extremely vividly drawn how it is sublimated into a groove by connecting like beads.
A full show of the tour’s main part and an unusual initial set are depicted with such a refreshing and clear sound. First of all, let’s organize the contents while comparing it with the tour representative work.

… and it looks like this. In a nutshell, it’s a set that combines the features of “US FESTIVAL ’83” and “MONTREAL 1982”. It doesn’t feel so surprising if it’s just this, but actually the song order is fresh. The area that starts with “Romeo Delight” is different from the main tour, and following the drum solo in the early stage, it is surprising that “Dance the Night Away” in the final stage will start. If it is the main part of the tour, “The Full Bug” will be played at this position, but in this work it is turned into an encore. In addition to this, the song order is different in detail, and the more you listen to the “HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour”, the more hooks you will get.
From the “FAIR WARNING Tour”, which was a kind of hardliner, to the “DIVER DOWN” era, when they turned to big entertainment. It is a new masterpiece that allows you to experience the scene 100% with clear sound. Even in modern times, more than 40 years after the show, new treasures are unearthed in this way. One that is impressed by the depth of such audience recording. Please enjoy it with the permanent preservation press 2CD.
★ Excellent audience recording of “July 17, 1982 Charlotte Performance”. A treasured master provided by a core collector, it is an incredibly wonderful clear sound that has hardly been known. The feeling of air is transparent without any unpleasant taste, and the core that penetrates the middle of the do jumps straight in cleanly. While absorbing the enthusiasm towards the peak, it strangely does not interfere with the sound of the performance. “HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour” is a new masterpiece where you can experience a delicious full show with a slightly different set than usual.
