1978 when Eddie Van Halen’s guitar revolution covered the earth. Introducing a live album in which the realistic atmosphere blows out from the speakers.
Included in this work are “May 23, 1978 Hanley performance” and “May 26, Bristol performance”. It is a 2-disc set with each of the best audience recordings arranged on each disc. Both are the first acts of their first UK tour, but this week the best soundboard albums “DEFINITIVE MANCHESTER 1978 (Zodiac 298)” and “DEFINITIVE IPSWICH 1978 (Zodiac 299)” from the same tour will be released at the same time. The 1978 UK tour had a total of 20 performances, but the above is the schedule for the 5-11 performances. Both of the two performances of this work were shows between “DEFINITIVE MANCHESTER 1978” and “DEFINITIVE IPSWICH 1978”.
This work is a truly wonderful audience recording. The pressed sound board 2 performance was also a new excavation master of the upgrade, but in fact this work is also a new master brought by the same route. Both performances are recordings that have been known for a long time, but you can still enjoy the young and fresh sound of Gene. Especially wonderful is the Hanley performance (disc 1). It is a famous recording that has been said to be comparable to a sound board for a long time, but the clear and clear sound is even more refreshing. As expected, there is a Manchester / Ipswich performance of a real sound board, so it is not mistaken for a line recording, but if it is only clear, it is comparable.
The point is more than that sound, it is a long full recording that lasts about 45 minutes. This tour is a short set because it is the undercard of BLACK SABBATH, but on this day, “Bottoms Up” is played one more song than other performances. Although it was recorded on the super masterpiece sound board “DEFINITIVE HAMMERSMITH 1978 (Zodiac 296)” released last week, unfortunately the recording ended in the middle of the song. On the other hand, in the Hanley performance, it was completely recorded because it was the first encore song. It wasn’t played at the Manchester / Ipswich performance, so it’s a delicious take with the best sound and full performance.
And Bristol performance (disc 2). Here, “Bottoms Up” was not played, and the opening number “On Fire” was missed, so recording starts in the middle of the second song “I’m The One”. Furthermore, the bass is distorted from the beginning to the middle of “Runnin’With The Devil”. There are some unfortunate points, but it’s not like saying “No recording?” When the bass distortion is removed from the middle of “Runnin’With The Devil”, a super powerful sound pops out!
The sound after this is really wonderful. The clearness is the same as that of Disc 1, but if the direct feeling with no distance is amazing, the neat sound is also beautiful. The bass that was over-peaking at the beginning is corrected just before that, and the bass vibe of Buri Buri Gorigori approaches neat and powerful. Furthermore, the on-site feeling is also exquisite. This is common to Disc 1, but although it sucks in the real enthusiasm unique to audience recording, there is no close voice and only the sense of scale is deliciously recorded.

In 1978, England, the home of hard rock, first learned about the revolutionary guitar. It is a live album where you can witness the historic scene with the best sound. It goes without saying that the transcendental soundboards are powerful and unrivaled, but it is a portrait of a revolutionary child. On the other hand, this work is the scene of the revolution itself. The world does not change with revolutionaries alone. The crowd that follows them is the swell of the times. A masterpiece of the 1978 document that can be one of the audience. Please enjoy the scent of the times with the finest soundboard albums.

本作に収められているのは「1978年５月23日ハンリー公演」と「５月26日ブリストル公演」。それぞれの極上オーディエンス録音をディスク１枚ずつに配した２枚組です。どちらも彼ら初の英国ツアーの一幕ですが、今週は同じツアーからの極上サウンドボード・アルバム『DEFINITIVE MANCHESTER 1978（Zodiac 298）』『DEFINITIVE IPSWICH 1978（Zodiac 299）』も同時リリースされます。ワールドツアーや英国ツアーの概要はそちらの解説で触れましたので、ここではより詳しく各タイトルとの位置関係を見てみましょう。

1978年の英国ツアーは全20公演でしたが、上記はその５-11公演目にあたるスケジュール。本作の２公演は両方とも『DEFINITIVE MANCHESTER 1978』『DEFINITIVE IPSWICH 1978』の間にあるショウでした。
そんな本作は、実に見事なオーディエンス録音。プレス化されたサウンドボード２公演もアップグレードの新発掘マスターでしたが、実は本作も同じルートでもたらされた新マスターなのです。両公演とも以前から知られている録音なものの、さらにジェネの若い瑞々しいサウンドがたっぷりと味わえるのです。特に素晴らしいのはハンリー公演（ディスク１）。以前からサウンドボードに匹敵すると言われてきた名録音ですが、さらに一層クリアでスカッと晴れ渡ったサウンドが清々しい。さすがに本物サウンドボードのマンチェスター／イプスウィッチ公演が存在するためにライン録音と間違えはしませんが、クリアさだけなら引けを取りません。
そのサウンド以上にポイントなのが約45分に及ぶ長尺フル収録。このツアーはBLACK SABBATHの前座なためにショート・セットなのですが、この日は他公演よりも１曲多く「Bottoms Up」が演奏されているのです。先週リリースされた超傑作サウンドボード『DEFINITIVE HAMMERSMITH 1978（Zodiac 296）』にも収録されているものの、残念ながら曲の中盤で録音が終了してしまいました。それに対し、ハンリー公演ではアンコール１曲目だったために完全に録音されている。マンチェスター／イプスウィッチ公演では演奏されなかったこともあり、極上サウンドでフル演奏が聴ける美味しい１テイクなのです。
そして、ブリストル公演（ディスク２）。こちらは「Bottoms Up」が演奏されなかった上に、オープニング・ナンバー「On Fire」が録音漏れで２曲目「I’m The One」の途中から録音がスタートする。さらに冒頭から「Runnin’ With The Devil」の途中までは低音が歪んでもいます。何とも残念なポイントが散見するのですが、では「ダメ録音？」と言うとさにあらず。その「Runnin’ With The Devil」中盤から低音の歪みが取れると、超強力サウンドが飛び出す！
これ以降のサウンドは、本当に見事。クリアさはディスク１と同等ですが、さらに距離のないダイレクト感も凄まじければ、端正な鳴りも美しい。冒頭ではオーバーピークしていた低音も、その寸前に訂正されることでブリブリ・ゴリゴリのベース・ヴァイヴが端正かつド迫力に迫る。さらに言えば現場感も絶妙。これはディスク１にも共通しますが、オーディエンス録音ならではのリアルな熱狂を吸い込んでいるものの、間近な声がなくスケール感だけが美味しく記録されているのです。

1978年、ハードロックの本場イギリスが初めて革命ギターを知った。その歴史的な現場に極上サウンドで立ち会えるライヴアルバムです。超絶サウンドボード群が強力無比なことは言わずもがなではありますが、それは言わば革命児の肖像。それに対し、本作は革命の現場そのもの。革命家だけでは世界は変わらない。彼らに付き従う群衆こそが時代のうねりなのです。その観衆の１人となれる1978年ドキュメントの大傑作。ぜひ極上サウンドボード・アルバム群と共に、時代の薫りを胸いっぱいに味わってください。
