The Brian “Robo” Robertson era that brought glory to THIN LIZZY. A special version of the iconic Pro Shot is a gift release decision.
The content of this work is “March 29, 1978 Rainbow Theater Performance”. Yes, it is the official video “LIVE AND DANGEROUS” with the same title as that masterpiece live album. It is a masterpiece video in a masterpiece that symbolizes the golden age, and in 2007 it was made into an official DVD. It has been widely loved by rock fans, but is now out of print. It is now traded at a premier price. This work is a copy of such an official product. .. .. .. Well, there isn’t. This is a Japanese broadcast version featured in the famous program “Western Music Live Legend” of a certain satellite broadcasting station. At our shop, we are archiving a number of music programs with the finest master by domestic core recording enthusiasts, and this work is one of them. Originally it is a completely official grade only for official works, but it is a super-superb version that has been made into a DVD with no deterioration.
Also, speaking of the taste of Nippon Broadcasting System, it is a production unique to the program, but it is firmly engraved in this work. At the beginning of the program, Mr. Half Narrator, who is familiar with dandy narration, explains the history of THIN LIZZY. The elegant mood drives expectations for the show. And the Japanese subtitles attached to the story of the carry-in scene at the beginning and the MC between songs. The official DVD also had subtitles, but this is unique to the program. You can also see it fresh with a different narrative.
Well, the main subject is finally after holding down a number of points. Speaking of the greatest taste of this video, THIN LIZZY’s live performance is in full swing. That’s all. The album version “LIVE AND DANGEROUS” was produced from the 1977 show, but this work is completely different in 1978. It was also a turbulent year for themselves. This is THIN LIZZY in 1978. The Rainbow Theater performance of this work was the first show. After that, Robo withdrew after several performances before and after the release of the album version “LIVE AND DANGEROUS”. Proceed to join Gary Moore, an ally. There is an official video even after joining Gary, but it was on the “Australia” tour seven months after this work.
Well, it was a show just before leaving Robo, but the content is wonderful like a lie in the dissonance inside the band. The set is a further concentration of the album version “LIVE AND DANGEROUS”. Let’s organize it here.

… And it looks like this. The highlight is “Me And The Boys,” which you can’t hear in the album version, and the richness of the essence of the golden age is boiled down in about 50 minutes. And play. This is already wonderful. Unlike the later footage, Phil Lynott is full of tension and luster, and even if you scream with all your might, the taste is exquisite like a black candy. The base is also full of his unique dynamic feeling, and the entanglement with Brian Downey’s craftsman Drumming is a feat.
Of course, the twin guitars on the signboard are also compatible with the two originals. For Gary and John Sykes, Scott Gorham has become a supporter or a harmonious staff member, but he is exactly on par with Robo. The alternating leads, harmonies, and breathing feeling of switching are comparable to the golden age of the twin’s original WISHBONE ASH. Although I can say it because I know the history later, Robo’s departure was too regrettable. Even the master Gary Moore can enjoy the polar regions of twin aesthetics that cannot be buried.

It is a historic masterpiece image left at the last minute, just before the “golden four people” collapse. After that, they welcomed the heroes, sometimes shining Irish and sometimes metallic, but again in the Golden Age, they stabbed the todome in 1978. One of the supreme pieces that is even darker than the album version “LIVE AND DANGEROUS”. It is the original Japanese broadcast version.
A DVDR with the same content will be released normally this week, but I can’t stand that such a masterpiece is out of print. We have also prepared it as a gift title so that as many people as possible can touch it. Please take this opportunity to enjoy yourself.

そんな本作に収められているのは「1978年３月29日レインボー・シアター公演」。そう、あの名作ライヴアルバムと同タイトルのオフィシャル映像『LIVE AND DANGEROUS』です。黄金時代を象徴する名作中の名作映像であり、2007年には公式DVD化も実現。ロックファンに広く愛されてきたのですが、現在は廃盤。プレミア価格で取引されるようになっています。本作は、そんな公式品のコピー。。。。では、ありません。某衛星放送局の名物番組“洋楽ライブ伝説”で特集された日本放送バージョンです。当店では、国内のコアな記録マニアによる極上マスターで音楽番組の数々をアーカイヴしておりますが、本作もその１つ。元が公式作品だけに完全オフィシャル級で当たり前ですが、さらに劣化ナシでDVD化された超極上バージョンなのです。
また、日本放送の旨みと言えば、番組独自の演出ですが、それは本作にもしっかりと刻まれている。番組の冒頭にはダンディな語り声でお馴染みなハーフのナレーター氏がTHIN LIZZYの歴史を解説。上品なムードでショウへの期待を駆り立ててくれる。そして、冒頭の搬入シーンの語りや曲間MCに付せられた日本語字幕。公式DVDでも字幕が付いていましたが、こちらは番組独自。またひと味違った語り口で新鮮に見ることができます。
さて、ポイントの数々を押さえたところでいよいよ本題。この映像最大の旨みと言えば、大全盛のTHIN LIZZYのライヴ。これに尽きます。アルバム版『LIVE AND DANGEROUS』は1977年のショウから制作されましたが、本作はまったく別の1978年。また、この年は彼ら自身にとっても激動の年でもありました。その辺の事情を思い起こすためにも、当時のスケジュールを振り返ってみましょう。

これが1978年のTHIN LIZZY。本作のレインボー・シアター公演は、その一発目のショウでした。その後、アルバム版『LIVE AND DANGEROUS』の発売前後に数公演行ったところでロボが脱退。盟友ゲイリー・ムーアの加入へと進みます。ゲイリー加入後にもオフィシャル映像がありますが、それは本作より７ヶ月後の「豪州」ツアーでのことでした。
さて、まさしくロボ脱退直前のショウだったわけですが、その中身はバンド内部の不協和音がウソのように素晴らしい。セットはアルバム版『LIVE AND DANGEROUS』を更に濃縮。ここで整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。アルバム版では聴けない「Me And The Boys」をハイライトに起きつつ、約50分に黄金時代のエッセンスを煮詰めたような濃ゆさが凄い。そして、演奏。これがもう素晴らしいのなんの。後の映像とは違ってフィル・ライノットに張りと艶があふれだし、全力で叫んでも黒飴のようにトロっとした旨みが絶品。ベースも彼独特の躍動感に溢れ、ブライアン・ダウニーの職人ドラミングとの絡みは至芸の域です。
もちろん、看板のツイン・ギターもオリジナル２人だからこその相性が鉄壁。ゲイリーやジョン・サイクスだとどうしてもスコット・ゴーハムがサポートと言うかハモり要員になってしまいましたが、ロボとはまさに対等。交互に執るリードも、ハーモニーも、切り替えの呼吸感も、それこそツインの元祖WISHBONE ASHの黄金時代にも匹敵する。後の歴史を知っているから言える事とは言え、ロボの離脱はあまりにも惜しかった。たとえ達人ゲイリー・ムーアでも埋め生きれないツイン美学の極地を光景付きで味わえるのです。

“黄金の４人”が崩壊する寸前、ギリギリのタイミングで残された歴史的な傑作映像です。その後も彼らは英雄たちを迎え、時にアイリッシュに、時にメタリックに輝きましたが、やはり黄金時代は1978年にトドメを刺す。アルバム版『LIVE AND DANGEROUS』よりもさらに濃ゆい至高の１枚。その独自日本放送版です。
