SRV in 1983 attracted attention by co-starring with David Bowie, and the famous “TEXAS FLOOD” shocked the world. The super-best stereo sound board album is here.
Included in such a work is a recording of a superb stereo sound board that was “October 20, 1983 Philadelphia Performance”. Speaking of SRV at that time, although rehearsal for Bowie’s “SERIOUS MOONLIGHT TOUR” participation, eventually turned to solo. I was on a world tour by pulling the regular “TEXAS FLOOD”. This is the whole picture of “TEXAS FLOOD WORLD TOUR 1983-1984”. Since there are 7 performances in Europe, it is a “world” tour, but most of them are in North America. The Philadelphia performance of this work was a concert corresponding to the 26th performance of “North America # 2” from Europe. This show is also known for its radio broadcast, and it has been a long-standing group of FM sound boards. This work is not such a classic remaster recurrence …. It is a superb board that has become a hot topic with a new master that was recently unearthed and “updated the highest peak quality!” In addition, the prestigious “Krw_co” was discovered. It is awakened from the DAT master of the famous program “KING BISCUIT FLOWER HOUR”, and its quality is superb. Although it was “Official class” without question and answer even in the past, it is a flat plate compared to this work. No, the trio of ensembles was also intertwined with the three-dimensional effect, but this work has a three-dimensional effect in one sound of the guitar itself. A sweet tone rises from a sharp picking and disappears through an exquisite vivrat. It is a three-dimensional feeling that the core approaches and the sound falls off.
Of course, the guitar is just an example. Tommy Shannon’s well-swelling bass is three-dimensional up to the vibe, and Chris Layton’s dynamic feeling is the highest ever. If it is “official class”, this work is called “official name board class”. In fact, the “KING BISCUIT FLOWER HOUR” broadcast version is not the longest due to the lack of “So Excited”, but the sound is just incredible to line up with the official names.
The show depicted with that sound is the essence of SRV that was shaking the world. Speaking of live performances in the Trio era, “LIVE AT CARNEGIE HALL” comes to mind, but in contrast to that, only three songs “Testify”, “Pride And Joy” and “Love Struck Baby” are covered. There are also many delicious covers such as “Mary Had A Little Lamb” by Buddy Guy and “Tin Pan Alley” famous by Jimmy Reed. In addition to “Voodoo Chile” which will be recorded in “COULDN’T STAND THE WEATHER”, “Little Wing” and “3rd Stone From The Sun” will also be shown. More than usual, love for Jimi is a hot show of Moro Dashi.

The broadcasting frame of about 45 minutes is not long, but conversely it is just one LP. That’s a great name that is comparable to “TEXAS FLOOD” and “COULDN’T STAND THE WEATHER”. そんな本作に収められているのは「1983年10月20日フィラデルフィア公演」その超絶級ステレオ・サウンドボード録音です。当時のSRVと言えば、ボウイの“SERIOUS MOONLIGHT TOUR”参加のためにリハーサルまでしたものの、結局はソロに転向。正規の名盤『TEXAS FLOOD』を引っさげ、ワールドツアーに乗り出していました。まずは、そんな当時を振り返り、ショウのポジションを確かめてみましょう。

これが“TEXAS FLOOD WORLD TOUR 1983-1984”の全体像。欧州も７公演あるので一応“ワールド”ツアーですが、そのほとんどは北米。本作のフィラデルフィア公演は、そんな欧州帰りの「北米#2」26公演目にあたるコンサートでした。このショウはラジオ放送された事でも知られ、古くからFMサウンドボードの既発群を生んできました。本作は、そんな大定番のリマスター再発……ではありません。最近になって発掘された新マスターで「最高峰クオリティを更新！」と話題になっている極上盤なのです。しかも、発掘したのはかの名門「Krw_co」。名物番組“KING BISCUIT FLOWER HOUR”のDATマスターから起こされており、そのクオリティは「超」の付く極上。これまでの既発でも問答無用に「オフィシャル級」ではあったものの、本作に比べると平板。いえ、既発群もトリオのアンサンブルが立体感に絡み合っていたのですが、本作はギターの１音自体に立体感が宿っている。キレの良いピッキングから甘いトーンが立ち上がり、絶妙なヴィヴラートを経て消えてゆく。その芯がグイッと迫り、鳴りがスッと落ちていく立体感なのです。
もちろん、ギターはあくまでも一例。トミー・シャノンのよくうねるベースもヴァイヴまで立体的ですし、クリス・レイトンの躍動感も過去最高。既発が「公式級」なら、本作は「オフィシャル名盤級」とでも呼ぶしかない超極上の音世界。実のところ、“KING BISCUIT FLOWER HOUR”放送版は「So Excited」がないために最長とは言えないのですが、サウンドはまさにオフィシャルの名盤たちと肩を並べる凄まじさなのです。
そのサウンドで描かれるショウは、世界を揺るがしていたSRVの真髄。トリオ時代のライヴと言えば『LIVE AT CARNEGIE HALL』も思い浮かびますが、それとは大きく異なり、被っているのは「Testify」「Pride And Joy」「Love Struck Baby」の３曲のみ。他にもバディ・ガイの「Mary Had A Little Lamb」やジミー・リードでも有名な「Tin Pan Alley」といった美味しいカバーが盛りだくさんで、特に特徴的なのはジミヘン。『COULDN’T STAND THE WEATHER』にも収録されることになる「Voodoo Chile」だけでなく、「Little Wing」や「3rd Stone From The Sun」も披露。いつも以上にジミへの敬愛がモロだしの熱いショウなのです。

約45分の放送枠は長いとは言えませんが、逆に言えばちょうどLP１枚分。それこそ『TEXAS FLOOD』『COULDN’T STAND THE WEATHER』にも匹敵する大名盤なのです。発掘の名門がアップグレードさせた定番サウンドボードの最高峰にして、灼熱で濃厚なブルースロックがたっぷりと詰まった特濃ライヴアルバム。どうぞ、存分に味わい尽くしてください。
