Steve Vai made his first solo visit to Japan in 10 years with his original masterpiece “INVIOLATE”. Introducing the definitive live set where you can experience the latest stage just finished.
This work includes “October 16, 2023 Zepp Namba performance”. This is a 3-disc audience set with the transcendental original recording on DISC 1-2 and the front row shot on DISC 3. The current rock scene is completely past the pandemic, but Vai is a little behind the times. With the release of “INVIOLATE”, live activities have finally returned completely. First of all, let’s take a bird’s-eye view of his current tour schedule in order to know what’s going on with him.

This is the schedule for 2022 and beyond that has been announced so far. The “*” mark is an orchestra co-starring concert or G3, and the “・” mark is the regular “INVIOLATE Tour” (in addition to this, we also perform various guest appearances and “Alien Guitar Secrets”/”Vai Academy”). Their last tour before the pandemic was in 2018, and this is their first full-fledged world tour in a while. The Asia leg had the following sequence: “China 7 times → Taiwan 1 time → Japan 2 times → Other times 5 times”, and the Osaka performance of this work was the 9th concert of the whole leg.

[DISC 1-2: Super sound board-like full recording by “The Strongest”] The main feature of this work is an incredible full live album. This is the latest work by our shop’s well-known master, “Western Japan’s Strongest Taper”, and this is an incredible piece of work! I’m at a loss for words because I’ve always referred to it as a “complete sound board,” but I guess you could call it a “complete sound board,” so to speak. Even if you listen closely with headphones, you can’t hear the spatial elements at all, and the sound of the performance is poured into your brain with zero distance/close contact. Even the cheers between songs are like distant ripples, and only sound like they were extracted by a sound board directly connected to the table.
The reason seems to be the position. Mr. “Strongest” is said to judge not only the acoustics of the venue, but also the musicality of the band/artist and the individuality of the sound output, but this time the master was aiming for “in front of the speakers.” It is also recorded from the second row, right in front of you. Normally, this kind of position is not the best, as it can cause the sound to crack or the vocals to drop out, but it seems that Vai is an exception. First of all, since it’s an instrumental, there are no vocal problems, and with careful equipment settings, there is no cracking in the sound. As a result, an ultra-soundboard taste has been created that will make you wonder, “What part of this is AUD?” The entire volume is penetrated by the “Steve Vai exclusive sound” that only the “strongest” can do.

[DISC 3: Shocking footage that gives you the ultimate front row experience] A full live album like that alone is enough to fill your heart, but this work is a full set that even includes a full video. Moreover, this video version is not free. This is a shocking video shot from the front row with no obstructions!
Vi is right there, and the feeling of being so close that you can reach him if you extend your hand makes me dizzy. Although he is slightly to the right of the center of the stage, Vi often comes right in front of him, probably because he likes to stand a little to the right. The point of view is completely that of a camera crew…or should I say, the experience of having no audience seats is more like sitting in a rehearsal than a concert, all to yourself.
Another key point is the camera work, which rarely uses zoom. Since it’s in the very front, it’s so close that there’s no need to zoom in, but if you want to, you can get closer to it. However, it does not do that, and instead provides a full-length, penetrating field of view that mimics the human eye without a zoom function. Yes, it is a piece that will teach you the “first-hand experience” that only a handful of people can experience even at the concert site.

This is the definitive edition. This work is also the latest report that allows you to enjoy the Japanese performance after a long time, but the content is far from that. A transcendent live album that can be heard on the sound board even if you know it is a guest record, and a front row video work that everyone will envy… Audience records have various charms, but this work is truly the ultimate set. これが現在までに公表されている2022年以降のスケジュール。「＊」印はオーケストラ共演コンサートやＧ３で、「・」印が通常の“INVIOLATE Tour”です（この他に様々なゲスト参加や“Alien Guitar Secrets”／“Vai Academy”なども行っています）。パンデミック以前のツアーは2018年であり、今回は久々の本格的なワールド・ツアー。アジア・レッグが「中国７回→台湾１回→日本２回→その他５回」という流れで、本作の大阪公演はレッグ全体の９公演目にあたるコンサートでした。

【DISC 1-2：“最強”氏による超サウンドボード的フル録音】
そんな本作のメインは、超絶級のフル・ライヴアルバム。当店お馴染みの名手“西日本最強テーパー”氏による最新作なのですが、これがとんでもない業物！　常に「まるでサウンドボード」とご紹介してきたので言葉に困るのですが、言わば「完全サウンドボード」とでも言えば良いでしょうか。ヘッドフォンで耳を澄ませても空間要素がまったく分からず、演奏音がゼロ距離／ド密着で脳に流し込まれる。曲間の歓声でさえ遠くのさざ波のようであり、卓直結サウンドボードが抽出したようにしか聞こえません。
その要因は、どうやらポジションにある模様。“最強”氏は会場音響だけでなくバンド／アーティストの音楽性や出音の個性まで総合判断するそうですが、今回名手が狙ったのは「スピーカー前」。それも２列目という真ん前ド直近から録音しているのです。通常、この手のポジションは音が割れたり、ヴォーカルが抜けたりと最善手ではないのですが、ヴァイに関しては例外だそう。そもそもインストですからヴォーカル問題は起きませんし、丁寧な機材セッティングで音割れは一切なし。その結果「これのどこがAUD？」と脳がバグる超サウンドボード・テイストが生み出されている。まさに”最強”氏にしか出来ない「スティーヴ・ヴァイ専用サウンド」で全編が貫かれているのです。

【DISC 3：究極の最前列体験ができる衝撃映像】
そんなフル・ライヴアルバムだけでも胸いっぱいですが、本作はさらにフル映像まで同梱したお腹いっぱいセット。しかも、この映像篇もタダモノではない。なんと最前列から遮蔽物ゼロで撮影された衝撃映像なのです！
すぐそこにヴァイがいて、手を伸ばせば届くような間近感に目眩がする。ステージ中央よりやや右寄りではあるものの、ヴァイはやや右寄りに立つのが好きなのか本当に目の前にちょくちょくやって来る。その視点は完全にカメラクルー……と言いますか、客席ゼロな体験感はもはやコンサートというよりリハーサルに同席しているかのような独り占め感なのです。
また、ズームをほとんどしないカメラワークもポイント。そもそも最前なのでズームの必要もないほど近いわけですが、やろうと思えば手元を狙って寄る事もできる。しかしそうはせず、ズーム機能のない人間の肉眼を再現するような視界でフルショウと貫いてくれる。そう、コンサート現場でも極ひと握りの人間しか味わう事のできない「最前体験」を教えてくれる１枚なのです。

これぞ決定盤。本作は久々の日本公演を味わえる最新レポートでもありますが、その中身はそれどころではない。客録と分かっていてもサウンドボードに聞こえてくる超絶ライヴアルバムと、誰もが羨む最前列映像作……オーディエンス記録には様々な魅力がありますが、本作はまさに究極のセット。世界に誇る日本発の超名作であり、“INVIOLATE Tour”の全世界最高峰となる３枚組。どうぞ、刮目してご体験ください！
