Scorpions in 1996 showed the essence of the orthodox SCORPIONS clause in the melancholy masterpiece “PURE INSTINCT”. A sound board album that serves as an official substitute for the hidden treasure tour that has been unexpectedly overlooked is now available.
“August 24, 1996 Bremerhaven performance” is recorded in this work. It is the stereo sound board recording. “PURE INSTINCT Tour” was a special tour for maniacs. After all, SCORPIONS in the mid-90s to mid-2000s didn’t mesh well. The heaviness introduced in “FACE THE HEAT” divided the pros and cons, and since the end of the 90’s, they have been striving only for electro/orchestral/acoustic and other-style matches. Under such circumstances, “PURE INSTINCT” was the only one that let me hear the Masamichi SCORPIONS section. However, most of the masterpieces are limited to “PURE INSTINCT Tour”. Moreover, not only was the official live album not left on this tour, but even the audience recording was an unexplored region.

This is the 1996-1998 SCORPIONS. The Bremerhaven performance of this work is just before the Asia leg including the performance in Japan. It was an appearance at the music festival “Open Air Festival” in his home country Germany.
This show is known for both TV broadcasting and FM broadcasting, and this work is the latter. It is an upgrade master released recently and was broadcast on NDR (North German Broadcasting), which should be called NHK in Germany. Its quality is “completely official grade”, and if the recording and mix are perfect, the master freshness is perfect. そんな本作に記録されているのは「1996年８月24日ブレーマーハーフェン公演」。そのステレオ・サウンドボード録音です。“PURE INSTINCT Tour”は、マニアにとって特別なツアーでした。何しろ、90年代中期ー2000年代半ばのSCORPIONSは、何か噛み合っていなかった。『FACE THE HEAT』で導入したヘヴィネスが賛否を分け、90年代末期以降はエレクトロ／オーケストラ／アコースティックと他流試合ばかりに邁進。そんな中にあって、唯一正道SCORPIONS節を聴かせてくれたのが『PURE INSTINCT』でした。ところが、その名曲群はほとんどが“PURE INSTINCT Tour”の限定。しかも、このツアーは公式ライヴアルバムが残されなかっただけでなく、オーディエンス録音ですら少ない秘境だったのです。

これが1996年ー1998年のSCORPIONS。本作のブレーマーハーフェン公演は来日公演を含むアジア・レッグの直前。母国ドイツの音楽祭“Open Air Festival”への出演でした。
このショウはTV放送とFM放送の両方が知られており、本作は後者。最近になって公開されたアップグレード・マスターで、ドイツのNHKとも言うべきNDR（北ドイツ放送）で放送されたもの。そのクオリティはズバリ「完全オフィシャル級」で、収録もミックスも完璧ならマスター鮮度も文句なし。何度も申しあげている通り「オフィシャル代わり」を務める銘品なのです。

……と、このようになっています。名バラード「You And I」は『MOMENT OF GLORY LIVE』『ACOUSTICA』でも披露していましたが、それ以外の『PURE INSTINCT』ナンバーはこのツアーでしか演奏されていない。その公式級サウンドボード・テイクが楽しめるのです。また、「You And I」も重要でバンド・バージョンのサウンドボードは意外と貴重です。
また、ショウ全体を見渡したバランスも素晴らしい。ウリ時代を一切外し、マティアス時代の濃縮グレイテスト・ヒッツに仕上げている。もちろん、ウリ時代の名曲群に文句などあろうはずもないのですが、この100％混じりっ気なしにマティアス時代に徹しきった純度も気持ち良かったりするのです。
SCORPIONS正道を極めつつ、時代に翻弄されてレア扱いになってしまった『PURE INSTINCT』の名曲たち。その輝ける秘宝をオフィシャル級サウンドボードで味わえる待望の大名盤です。本来であればプレスされるべき……いや、公式でリリースされるべきSCORPIONS史の秘宝ライヴアルバム。哀愁のメロディで胸を締め付ける欧州ハードロックの至極、どうぞ本作で心ゆくまでお楽しみください。
